Prodeus: An Old and New Hybrid of Retro Goodness

Prodeus is a really solid shooter with a great blend of pixel and 3d graphics put together, with an awesome arsenal and soundtracks to boot. Also, it's level editing is really accessible and fairly easy to use, giving this game an infinite pool of content, which makes it the best part about this game. But it's checkpoint system does negatively effect the more challenging aspects of the games combat, and multiplayer and co-op activity is almost non-existent, unless you can find people to play with. Still worth picking up, and it's one of my favorites in the boomer shooter scene.

I love boomshoots, but this one didnt strike me. I enjoyed the game for a couple of hours especially the gameplay, but to give some honest feedback, I got tired of the metalic base after metalic base theme. Everything is just black, dark and metal. Some more inspired levels would of been nice. Rather than, "metalic underground bunker"

To each their own. Some games thrive with limited colour palettes. But that doesn't mean it's gonna resonate with everyone.

its still kind of laughable to see/hear the generation Z redefining language .... there are no "boomer shooters" because boomers are / were too old for computer games. Doom and the likes "could" be called "millenial shooters" but thats about it. My generation grew up with them - and : "no", almost all of these new shooters are nothing like the original ones; but they are similar to some extent and some of them "do" carry over the spirit. Its what you kids call "retro feel". Also : what this one calls "nexus system" has been the standard for many types of games for decades now - including first person shooters. Death = walk back and try again. If you cant try again or need to re-play a lot of stuff ... well ... thats a particular difficult and/or senselessly punishing game ... thats why i also dont play roguelikes, only roguelites.

I use the term interchangeably. I sometimes also refer to them as retro shooters, or retro inspired shooters.
