Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies Football Program make a sneaky good hire as former JMU DC Lyle Hemphill is set to join the Texas A&M Coaching staff.

I think Bateman is a good LB coach and recruiter, that should be his role. Not DC
This. A million times this.
I hope he’s announced as A&M’s defensive coordinator before the start of the season.
I think before the season starts he's going to be named defensive coordinator and Jay Bateman's either going to be with the staff or elsewhere
This guy is a gem of a hire. Surprised he's not the instant DC but looks like (to me) Elko is going to handle this season but he is the future.
I htink likely what's going to happen is that Bateman and Spencer will do the front 7, Hemphill will do coverages, and Billy said that Elko will get more hands on with the defense. I think we take a step up next season.
Good hire. This is the possible next DC. If A&M doesn’t add some dudes to the DL before next year they’ll be bottom 1/2 of the SEC again
we weren't bottom half this year
Again? lol they were one game away from the SEC championship what’re you on about 😭
Tough road to hold 2025 season at Arkansas at LSU at Mizzou with an open date weaker teams at home to start then ND in South Bend IN but to A&M's credit the portal been good to us and our lines beefing up with looking for rotation fresh legs in crucial down situations with a demanding schedule so looks like we will be ready with all the talent coming in feeling optimistic Lyle Hemphill on board as DC ! #GIGEMAGGIES
Not row to hoe?
We really sucked at making defensive adjustments in the second half.
👍
Elko better call the defense this year
I’m surprised he hasn’t made moves either, Jay Bateman should have BEEN fired! Why do y’all think he’s been slow making moves?
He may be spending the extra time to do more research, to guarantee that the moves he makes are well thought out. Better than trying to make fast moves, and in the end it was not the right hire/recruitment
Also, in regards to why Bateman wasn't fired. I think he's still a good guy to have on your staff. He is well liked, but that doesn't excuse the fact that there are some glaring gaps in coaching knowledge. Bringing in another defensive coach that knows a lot in the areas Bateman is deficient in is a good move.
Elko and Bateman have coaching history together and have similar playcalling/personnel philosophies. What I think we’ll see this year is Elko being much less hands off with the defense and instead choosing to work either side by side with Bateman/hemphill or even at times taking over more of the scheme aspects than either of them.
What I want to see is the defense have a nastiness and fire that they seriously lacked this year. That edge and desire to make the offense fight for every yard is what separates defenses like that at OSU, TU and Georgia from ours. We’ve gotta get mean and we’ve gotta get more aggressive.
@@willtaylor6793he didn’t have enough hands on the defense. That’s why we struggled.
Hopefully at some point Batemans replacement.
Dezz Ricks still starting at corner? hes horrible
It’s pronounced Hemp-hill
That’s what I thought
It's pronounced like "Hemple"
