    I have the echo. Runs great and starts easy.I also have the Stihl bg86c handheld leaf blower that converts into a leaf vac. I primarily use the Stihl as a vacuum. I also bought a 10hp Billy goat walk behind blower for $100 off my brother with only 10 hours on it. All my blowers always work well for me and I hope it stays like that. Great video by the way!

    From a homeowner perspective, Can't do fuel and oil and hard starts (take it for service again) anymore. The Ego blower has a convenient V hook underneath allowing easy wall hanging, the Ego mower folds up like luggage and the Ego weedeater slide tube shortens, so everything fits in a standing 4x4x7 outdoor cabinet along with a garden dirt cart, ladder, plastic tub with lid full of garden tools, the mower bag and side chute, two brooms and a few other things. Everything fits without cramming since the Ego products are configurable. The Ego batteries swap between tools and I have an Ego unpowered handheld converter, you slide an Ego battery onto it and it provides 120v and USB power. It powers a portable hot/cold cooler, charges phones, whatever. The Ego batteries go back into the Ego Power Station (not the slow charger) where they charge up and provide emergency power for my refrigerator, computers, etc during power outages. I've used it alot since powers not stable in our suburb.
    Thanks, JB, for the time, energy and money spent on your reviews. We trust you. Likes were given.

      SPACE CADET!!! Thanks for sharing all this information my friend! If I had a much smaller lawn ego would be a good way to go! Every fall when I get hit hard with leaves it takes my big back pack blower 20-30 minutes to clean it all up. If I had less lawn I would consider this but it’s not suitable for what I have now. I do want to give their string trimmer and edger a shot. I imagine power lasting a lot longer for those applications. That converter sounds like a cool device for the garage too! Will definitely check it out! Thanks for sharing! Snowblower content starts up next week! Stay awesome my friend!

    I would like to add that on your ego review the max 615cfm would drain the battery rather quickly if I remember....So saying the MAX CFM is 615 would be kind of inaccurate since most people won't use it to that max CFM due to excessive battery drain......just my 2 cents.

    Funny that I stumbled upon this comparison. I bought a similar model Ego in 2019 (it was over 600 CFM) and enjoyed it twice before something with the battery went bad where it wasn't make a connection/turning on. I was going to exchange it but caught a sale on the Echo for $149.99. The Echo is easy to start, very durable as was noted, and it isn't obnoxiously noisy or smelly. The max power is obviously better with the EGO, but for most uses, I was either tempted or needed the turbo boost on the EGO, which kills the battery a lot quicker. I like the compromise and overall decent power of the Echo for day to day use but understand the allure of the Ego particularly for smaller yards, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend either.

    My wife worked at a day care/school last year where the teachers and helpers doubled as yard maintenance workers. When it was her week to clean the playground she tossed the EGO blower into her trunk and easily blew the leaves away and the sand off of the hardscape. She's not shy about pulling a gas motor to start, but there's no way she'd use a gas powered blower in that situation. In your noise test I think you tested the sound on turbo, because the EGO is very quiet. You can have a conversation while you're using it.

    I had a lawn boy for 25 years sold it this year and bought an battery powered mower. I had a homelite weedwacker for 20 years and gave it away last year and bought an electric one. I got rid of both of them because my yard is much smaller now and I like the electric stuff but I am kinda wishing I kept my gas powered equipment. Two issues with the EGO battery-based blower. One, if the company goes out of business (which is not unfathomable), the clock is ticking on the blowers lifespan because battery-based tool manufacturers have proprietary connectors and mechanical features that hold the battery on the device. No more batteries after EGO is gone (if that were to happen). Two, similarly to the first comment, how long is EGO expected to provide support and spare parts for a device? There may be a new technology they jump to in five years, and decide it's not profitable to manufacture loose batteries at that time or sometime thereafter. As you said, with proper care the gas blower is going to run for 20 years, and maybe more.

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  ปีที่แล้ว

    My big thing is, if you need to fix your blower a carb on the interscreen is roughly $20 a new battery for that blower? I'm sure it's way more than $20. Even if it does last the full claimed time of 10 yrs it's gonna cost way more than the carb. If you take care of the gas powered blower it will last for years and years. I have a Craftsman weed eater from the early 80s that I inherited that was taken care of and it runs awesome. Sure you have to do maintenance and mix fuel but I'd much rather have that than an electric weed eater or blower!! Just my opinion tho

    For convenience and home use its hard to go past the electric blowers. Ego is overpriced so I would skip it as a choice unless I already had other ego products. The blower I have is a lot more powerful than my 2 stroke ryobi blower and I don't stink of two stroke fumes after using it. Also I do question the noise ratings. I know on mine the rating for the 2 stroke was based on a reading at a certain distance while the rating on the new electric blower was done under a different standard. Old mowers as well based on there noise ratings were at 75 dba while new mowers have a much higher dba rating due to the new system and some are as high as 100dba now. I have no idea on the change in testing methods or if its a local only system though. That echo has being around a long time as a product so just wondering if the noise ratings are done under the same standards as each other? My electric is loud on turbo but then most the time its at normal high setting which is a decent amount quieter than the 2 stroke which is always noisy.

    The gas/electric debate for yard tools always comes up no-brainers for gas UNLESS you just want or for whatever reason can't have gas tools. If nothing else, the longevity of the GOOD gas tools makes the case alone. My 25+ year old commercial Toro 2 cycle has not only WAY outlasted any current electric mower, it will continue to outlast any one of them sold today. Those just aren't made to run indefinitely with proper maintenance like my mower.

    Gasoline forever. That Echo will last a long time with proper care. It is designed to be serviced. Nearly an hour on a tank of fuel. Echo for the win.

    Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying my Ego products but how are people getting 10 years of life out of their batteries when this video came out 9 years after the current technology was brought to market?

    And when the grid fails, Echo gets another X. (assuming you keep spare fuel). Echo gets another X when its time to recycle. Metals are melted down, and lithium batteries are toxic to landfills.

    They can push battery crap all they want. 100 dollars and up on each battery. Charging times are long. The life of the battery could be better. Small power tools all day long. I have a vast supply of Milwaukee tools and a crap load of batteries. The gas blower runs out of gas. No problem. Fill it back up, and you will keep going. It's like battery-operated heat guns. What does it need most? Good amperage. for small Jobs, it is great, but for larger jobs, pull out the extension cord. Next, the toxins in the batteries, yes, dispose of them, and then they have no great way of recycling them because the process is costly and there is no great return on recycling batteries. Very little money in return for the recycled plants.

    Your comparison is not fair example runtime you put in the gas right to the top of the gas tank and said it ran 53 minutes. If that’s the case, then you should use the biggest battery Ego has. The 12 ah then see what happens. And it looked like it took you a bit longer than 8 seconds to start the echo it didn’t start for you the first time when you had a mess around with it and start it again that’s about 15 or 20 seconds not eight

    We will see when you’re in a hurry and your echo doesn’t start and you’re sitting there, pulling the thing until your arm falls off. And don’t think it won’t happen because it will. And who wants to sit there and mix gas and oil no thank you I’d rather just slap on a battery and be done with it.
