    One year Later:
    I had almost given up hope on Biking after suffering several injuries after a road bike crash with a concussion and some broken ribs. I slowly returned to all activities over the summer concentrating on events. I had pretty much forgotten about the Tron Bike until one day about 2 week’s ago, out of curiosity, I checked where I was on the Everest Challenge and found out I was only about 8500 meters from completion. I got pretty excited about that and started doing the dumb stuff again like Alp du Zwift because I couldn’t remember where I had seen this video before. Tonight, I sat down and just hunted for you my friend because I knew your way would get me to my goal within the next week or so. I found the video tonight just before starting the 2024 Tour De Zwift tonight. I’ll be doing both running and cycling but I will also be making sure that I grind out this last remaining 6000 meters using your method as I really want that concept bike speed and efficiency.
    So thanks once again for taking the time to put this together. I truly appreciate it and this time I’m subscribing to really show my appreciation!
    👊🏽💯🙏🏽😎

    If only I knew this trick early on. It took me like a year or more to get the Tron bike through my regular riding style. I wasn't going to grind the Alpe or anything, but this would've made it a lot easier to rack up the elevation. Thanks for posting!

    Thanks for the tip ! I've done this a few times now. An easy'ish endurance/tempo ride up the Alpe for me takes about 1:30. I get an extra 1000' of elevation gain in the same time using your method. So still getting a great workout and if I get bored I just continue on and climb all the way to the Radio tower. I think I got just over 5K gained in an 1:45 on the last one. Can't wait to unlock the Tron so I can stop thinking about it. I'm a video game min/max'er so the grind is part of the fun ! I'll go for all the badges later once I know I have the best race bike for my level :)

Apart from the elevation gains I also found it a great exercise! I have an unrepairable knee injury so whilst I like grinding up hill I can only do so much continuously. You'll gain elevation faster if you go to the section a few turns later, "the Snowy Dip". A little bit more lead-in though. Its great for doing warmups.

    • @AndersFougner
      @AndersFougner ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@smarty8772 It’s half way up the Epic KOM Reverse. There’s a part of the road where it’s going downhill for a little while and then back up, and you can ride back and forth in this section to gain elevation quickly. This part of the road has snow on each side, that’s why people call it the «Snowy Dip». Ride into the dip, gain speed, push it a little bit to keep the speed uphill, then ease up and do a U turn. Repeat. For every «lap» you’ll gain about 45-50m of elevation.

    • @AndersFougner
      @AndersFougner ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@smarty8772More precisely, ride towards the Tower until you get to 256m elevation. Then you’ll roll down into the snowy dip (235m). Same technique as this video describes, except the snowy dip is larger and will gain your elevation more rapidly.

    • @tofuhiker
      @tofuhiker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes I agree, I normally turn at 2:45 and 3:43 when I rode this myself, keep in mind I was still yapping away when doing the recording but my point is keep the effort low and keep u-turn using the momentum to give you free elevation gains =).

    so if you do a full climb you cant take advantage of the downhill speed to gain free altitude from it. with this method you gain say 50 m and translate that to speed which gives you, say, 10m up the other side yo uthen have to pedal 40m. so you save maybe 10% per 100m vertical plus get the benefit of recovery between reps but the downside must be extra time

    • @tofuhiker

      Pretty sums it up except it doesn't take extra time as fatigue slows you down for a full climb vs recovery and repeat.

    I do 2x 45 min structured workouts every week and always select a hilly route such as the uber pretzel, but there is still a lot of flats before i get to a hill. Dyou think this would gain more elevation than just picking a route?

    • @tofuhiker
      @tofuhiker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure this will pick up heaps more elevation, it will be hard to do it with a workout as you will u-turn every min, but if you have an active recovery or endurance workout this will be perfect. Second half of the video I show my strava rides using this method, I average 500m per 30 mins.. and normally I still do races and workout during the week as this is not taxing at all on the legs =).. it is however very boring lol

    • @utterlyexiged
      @utterlyexiged 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tofuhiker I tried a comparison today with this method. Over the 45 minute workout i gained an extra 30m using your method, over just selecting the uber pretzel and riding normally. I could take it a step further by pausing the workout on the descents before the uturn at the bottom, thereby using all my energy doing the uphill section, but adding time to the workout obviously.
      I'm just wondering if there are any hillier routes out there to use.

      I found the spot and it works great! Such a grind! What difficulty Is your trainer set at?

      @@drewa4445 any setting you want to, you should try and ride it at zone 2 with a comfortable cadence, if you run out of gears and feel like your are grinding reduce the trainer difficulty, that way you can push out a 1-2 hours each session, use the down key arrow for a quick u-turn.
