I once bought a used Betamax to mess around with, but I only had old Beta cassettes and the tape had deteriorated. So I bought a new VHS cassette and packed the tape into the Beta shell. Perfect! 🙂

Nice video! but what went wrong... the tape is supposed to have a transparent part at beginning and end, so it wouldn't tear off but stop on time when FF or ReWinding! Take care!
Hi, I have umatic sony vp-7020. I have a problem, I put the tape and it doesn't play, it keeps rewinding to the end of the tape and then it stops. I can't play it, and it does this with all tapes. what can be?
Rodrigo. Thank you for the comment. I am not a machine repair specialist. I have to take my VCRs to get them serviced by a professional that deals with these kind of older players. You are going to have to see if you have a repair person in your area that fixes them. Sorry that I can't help.
I have a U-matic tape player but I have three U-Matic S tapes to play. I hear the actual tape format is the same and a cartridge adapter is available, but I can't find one. Is it possible to disassemble a U-Matic cartridge and put a U-Matic S tape into it?

To play some U-Matic tapes I bought an old-school U-Matic off of Ebay that I intend to clean up and test out, then I realized the tapes I have that I wished to play and digitize are the more "modern" compact U-Matic S and I thought I was up a creek. I will try playing one after I open the player up and go through it a bit.

What difference does it really make Robert? The tape gets repaired, played once for transfer and then get's thrown away. Does the garbage really care if I used scotch tape, splicing tape, duct tape, gaffers tape, masking tape, face lifting tape? I don't think so.
People come to me to have old media transferred to new media. Sometimes the tape breaks off the reel and it needs a quick fix. That is what most people want is a quick fix using the material they have available at home. Thanks for the kind reply back. Almost all common receive are nasty and get removed. Please subscribe!

I don’t think you need a tape adapter. Just center the tape in the deck and push it in.

Do you know anyone that works on umatic decks?
Just one guy in my city but he is backed up for months. I dropped off some VCRs to get looked at 6 months ago and he still hasn't gotten to them.
Noooooooooooooo! Don't use scotch tape! Use the same splicing tape designed for reel to reel tape.

I hear you must bake umatic tape because of sticky tape syndrome?
@@speakeasyarchives8764 I had a U-matic tape once. It was not back coated so it shouldn't need baking.
I had to mute the audio, very hard to watch this with those non-funny non-sense noises, very distracting.
