Beautiful! How 'bout that.....stumbled upon hearing this for "THE VERY FIRST TIME" just now!! I never knew this song existed until now,....what a very pleasant surprise!! Tom was always there to give us that magical performance!! I sure miss his physical form on this earth, to see him, and perform again, hear him talk and laugh,......all that....but his spiritual orb is so strong and connected....can't help but feel him there , and all the "coincidences " that occur with his friends and fans..I just Love the Man..Tom Petty forever.
New to me as well (about a month ago). Yes. He's still very much here in his own special way. Here we are still discovering new songs and playing the ones we've always loved. I never got to see him live, but his music has been with me so long that I'm ashamed to list the decades involved (-:
Got a feeling I'm wrong Got a feeling the joke's on me Thought that you were my friend Around the roses again. Around the roses again Don't stare into the sun I'm left here with a smoking gun Right back where I've been Around the roses again. Around the roses again Here we go around again Never lose but don't quite win All I want is to believe in you Got a feeling she's gone Like my faith has been over run Ain't no truth to defend Around the roses again. Around the roses again Around the roses again Around the roses again
This is far too good to have only 10,000 views. I'll bet there are a lot of Tom Petty fans who've simply never heard it. It's a classic. I can think of lesser tracks on Highway Companion. I'm surprised it didn't make it onto the album. Thank you for sharing it (-:
@@treefrogdemon Understood, but the original album was only 43 minutes, so the 'bonus' tracks could easily have fit. Kind of surprised that they would pull this nonsense. I didn't even know this song existed until I read Conversations with Tom Petty and learned there were two other tracks.
@@sotampacane I can't understand why they didn't retire the original version of Highway Companion, and make the "special edition" the regular version. Instead the special edition is out of print, and many Petty fans are missing out on two great songs.
This song and "Home" are outstanding. It's such a shame that many people will never hear them. They should retire the original HC album and release a 14 song version. Possibly featuring a different song order to better integrate "Around the Roses" and "Home" with the other songs, instead of just tacking them on at the end. Mike Campbell and Jeff Lynne should be the ones to figure out a proper track order, since they were the ones working with Tom Petty on the album.
@@steelyman08 I think Tom sings his own harmony vocals here, Jeff did the production of the album though, and some other instruments too. Not sure about this track though
@@Martyn83r You may well be right. And he's certainly capable!! I do know that Jeff Lynn sang backing vocals on at least one track because I looked up the credits for The HC album. But this song wasn't included. Jeff Lynn still had a fine set of pipes at the time (-:
@@Martyn83r Indeed. I bet you've watched Running Down A dream ~ all 4 hours. Seemed more like 1. Loved that so much and learned a great deal from it. Amazing story ~ Tom Petty & Co.
Another great unheard song from tp we all sure miss him

It only came out on the HC special edition; that's why lots of people don't know it

The joy of finding songs like these 15 years after their release, amazing
Me pasó lo mismo, ese disco es de mis favoritos, pero esta canción no la había oído
Songs like this are why I listen to TH-cam music. I can’t find all these awesome songs on iTunes
Great point. Totally agree.

Well, tell all your friends and let's get a few more!
@@treefrogdemon Well, I've put this one in a special TP playlist. So hopefully a few more will stumble across it at least (-:
No lo había escuchado a este tema, eso que es un disco de los que mas me gusta
Thanks for putting this on TH-cam. I sure wish Apple Music had it. Great song.
It's on my personal greatest hits playlist for him (-:
Wish this was on Highway Campaign Love this Song
It's on the Highway Companion special edition

Great song, thank you for sharing. Would love to get hold of the extended album for ‘Home’ as well
I love this so much one of the greatest songs i could listen 2 this song all day. 🎶
Beautiful and soulful 💖💞💖
O boy o boy Tom...my guru Jedi sensei
I love the harmony singing here, another great tune of the master himself.
I wonder if that's Jeff Lynne? I know he did some backing vocals on the album.

They need to release a deluxe version.
I love, love, love this song ❤️♥️
beautiful song....
Yes it is!
I agree
Thanks for sharing.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you
Sounds like a track off of "She's the One"
🇺🇸🎩🎸👍🏻
awesome - what year was this recorded ?
2005
A fairly average song for Tom Petty. I can see why it was left off of the highway companion original.
wrong. it aint average and the reason why it was "left off" the album is because tom was dead set on only having 12 tracks on the album.
@@ImJoeTheCeo Golden Rose should have been tossed in favor of this song.
@@ImJoeTheCeophenomenal song, an apt description of my relationships. 😎
