I wonder if any of those people who were compulsively yapping during his performance now wish they would have actually listened during the one chance they had.
I noticed that Tom politely tried to quiet the crowd a bit before this song, but too many people are oblivious of something called " consideration of others".
Thank you for getting me thru my hardships.... . I could never repay you and youd never understand........R.I.P. tom ...and my may the HEARTBREAKERS live for eternity........love you guys ....THANK YOU !!!!!
Thanks Justin, probably my favorite show and seeing him play one of my top 5 songs...on opening night...the only time and last time it was played live, was amazing.
So Intune, especially with the times we are living. He gave us so many gifts and insights into the human condition. Fits what I, and I’m sure many, are feeling right about now. Such a great song, among many, from one of the greatest writers the world has ever known.
You can tell and feel how much this song meant to Tom &💘, first time I've seen this song live. It plays out better when they sing this song 💓 in they're recording studio, surrounded by guitars and other instruments. And there's no noise of people.💞🤗💕
Music is Medicine. A gritty dirge with subtle call and response, a repetitious overture, a weepy slide and weathered vocals. I'm in for the long one, where ever it goes
I agree, I think it is a modern phenomenon. Tom said "this is a quiet song" and they did'nt respond. I felt a connection to any band I went to see but I'm not sure the youngsters feel the music quite so deeply as they could and I don't know why. This is a beautiful song nevertheless
Another great song. Keep them coming please. Great quality camera work and memories. Thanks so much for posting these. I came from Melbourne Australia to see his show in Memphis - it was awsome
Yes it would. The NRL or AFL should get Tom and the Boys to come down instead of washed up pretenders like Meatloaf and Richie Samboura - neither of whom can sing for toffee even if they licked it!
I feel that there is so much personal interpretation in what Tom's lyrics had, and that is one reason that he appealed to such a large range of fans. This is one of my top 3 songs of his, so I was very surprise to have heard it....on opening night...I went to almost half of the shows on this tour, and it was the only time he played it, and a highlight IMO.
Half the shows!?! I am happily envious. Glad you treated yourself on his run to the finish line. I've done similarly with Dylan since '02, but nowhere near as many shows on each leg of his Never Ending Tour.
I never intended to, but even thought I have been a fan from the very beginning,...there was always something to keep me from going to the show in my area, so I missed out for many years. This tour...I knew it was coming, and made sure I could not miss something that I thought would be possibly historic. I have no regrets for that, just maybe for a few shows that I should have gone to,
I think this song its Toms penance, talks about getting a bit beatup\treated like shit by the old man, his mom maybe deserving better. And then life went around the corner and he met Elvis, an epiphany that changed his whole life direction ... jmo.
You know Sherry, it is my favorite song...and I am so grateful that Bob offered to sit with him in the 2nd row....on opening night, this was one of the highlights of the 25 shows I went to on this final tour.
I always missed his shows because I had to work in the morning. Always made an excuse not to see Tom, it was always because of work. He’s gone now, I wish I just called in sick.
Del Shannon, despondent over his lagging career, committed suicide just days before an offer came in to join "The Traveling Wilburys" after Roy Orbisons death. Perhaps that's what Tom is feeling in this song. A reminder for all of us to "Keep the Faith".......
I absolutely love this song! ❤
I miss him.
Big time 🥲
I wonder if any of those people who were compulsively yapping during his performance now wish they would have actually listened during the one chance they had.
We had the same thought, GG. How someone drops $350 to sit in the Golden Circle and yammer away like they're watching reruns baffles me, too.
He quickly dropped it off the playlist. Beautiful song.
He didn't play it in Dallas 2 days later. I was heartbroken. This is truly the last great Tom Petty song.
I noticed that Tom politely tried to quiet the crowd a bit before this song, but too many people are oblivious of something called " consideration of others".
Gilbert Gross it's sickening. What imbecility...
Thank you for getting me thru my hardships.... . I could never repay you and youd never understand........R.I.P. tom ...and my may the HEARTBREAKERS live for eternity........love you guys ....THANK YOU !!!!!
Love this song and wish the audience really listened to it.
One of his best. I sure do miss him.
So beautiful, man I needed this song right now and am glad music lives on. Thank you Tom 😎 🎶 🎸
Tom Petty, your music is ever lasting. Thank you for capturing this amazing song!!
Thanks Justin, probably my favorite show and seeing him play one of my top 5 songs...on opening night...the only time and last time it was played live, was amazing.
Campbell’s hook on this song is amazing and casts a shiver
Simply beautiful...
Beautiful but painful.
Like something he wrote thinkin about his mom ...
he was so obviously in pain here but he loved his audience so much he gave it all on stage. what a musician/poet.

I was at this show. It was amazing. I never thought he would play this song. I miss him

My favorite song off of the Mojo album.
One of my top 2 songs....and happy I got to hear it played lived....sadly, for the last and only time on this tour.
Me too, beautiful.
Thank you, Tom! Such a beautiful song with great meaning. RIP my friend!

I miss seeing him in concert. It was the highlight of my life all 8 times. 😢
It so odd this performance so damn odd so eerie and so righteous all together master playing from the heart 💜

Eamon Stafford wouldn't it be something if tpathb finally came to Australia for a tour? The last musician that I want to see that I have yet to see
Yes it would. The NRL or AFL should get Tom and the Boys to come down instead of washed up pretenders like Meatloaf and Richie Samboura - neither of whom can sing for toffee even if they licked it!

Inmensa canción. Gracias amigo. Gracias.

Does this strike you like a cross between a hymn and a prayer? Thanks for sharing this amazing moment, flightbag.

flightbag89 thanks for uploading!!! Caught two shows on this last tour but didn’t even realize he played this on opening night! Amazing

Bound into light.... forevermore.
So glad you got this one.

How I wish I could have seen this song performed live!
Thank you, Brien!
I miss him!
This is awesome.
Fab, thanks for posting.
Top 3 Petty songs for sure.
At the time this video was taken, Tom Petty had less than 6 months remaining on this earth.
Waterthedesert I saw him 4-29-2017. His last tour, he gave it ALL to his fans! All for his fans!
Somethin’ good comin’ I know it will. ❤
R.I.P to.
there is pain in his eyes ..beautiful performance ,but he looks so fragile
never reached the coast unfortunately
I always missed his shows because I had to work in the morning. Always made an excuse not to see Tom, it was always because of work. He’s gone now, I wish I just called in sick.
Beautiful 🦆

Tom suffered from depression for years, and I can hear it in a lot of his songs.
How terrible, I didn't know that.
🌹💝
What a loss
I miss Petty :(
Less than 6 months later... :'(
Boy Tom Petty's ladies sure we're lucky girls
Covid-19 the worst time period ever😢
😔🦋♥️✌️🧚🏻♂️
I think he was almost dying then it sounds like.. so sad about him and how he ended up...he seemed so unhappy.
This song is incredible. Fools. Drunkards talking while Tom sings.
genius RIP
Absolutely Beautiful....
