I grew up in GR. Your descriptions of the seasons are different from what I experienced. Winter: lots of snow, but the roads were cleared of snow, plowed/salted/sanded quickly. Only if I had to drive during a major snowstorm did I become anxious. Growing up in West Michigan, I took the cloudy winters for granted, but I know the lack of sun bothers many people. On the other hand, the winter temperatures are moderate compared to other areas of the upper US because of the moderating effect of the Great Lakes. (Please note - I'm referring to the Lower Peninsula!)
Summer: sometimes humid, something not. The temperatures and the level of humidity depend upon the weather fronts that would pass by. Cooler, drier air from Canada was always welcome and happened frequently. When I moved to Florida (for a year) and later Northern Virginia and Sacramento, CA, I discovered summer in GR was a delight by comparison. And there is always a cool body of water to jump into that is salt and shark free!

Funnily enough I currently live around Sacramento, CA and we are looking to move to GR. If I can get to any sort of summer that is somewhat bearable I’ll take it 😂

I'm moving to the GR area soon and I've been having a hard time hearing back from jobs. Looking for mechanical or manufacturing engineering jobs and have been applying for months now, but have only gotten a response from a small handful of places. Very frustrating!

Not sure what field you are in but check out the surrounding areas also indeed. Such as Walker, Kentwood, Hudsonville, Grandville, Plainfield township are some areas to look into Wyoming as well. Note each city taxes are different meaning that can be more or less than the actual city of Grand Rapids good luck.

I’d love to see a in depth video on Alger heights . Unfortunately me and my husband lost our home when the company he was working for closed due to covid. We are moving this summer and I was hoping to learn more about the rental market in alger heights . We have 3 young children and I want to live somewhere safe and somewhere we can eventually buy once we plant our feet somewhere.

I grew up in Grand Rapids...left in October 94' for a chance to move to Florida. The area is nothing like it was when I was a kid there....after Clinton destroyed all the manufacturing with NAFTA. I don't miss the snow or the gray one bit.

I lived in Florida for one year. I got out as soon as feasible and I wouldn't live in that state again since the cave-dwellers and knuckle-draggers have been voted into office.
