5 Reasons to Live in Grand Haven, Michigan
This video is about 5 reasons why you should consider living in Grand Haven, Michigan.
Here are the reasons summarized in the video:
Reason 1: Grand Haven's white sandy beaches. There are many beaches along Lake Michigan with picnic areas, perfect for spending hot summer days.
Reason 2: Recreational activities. Grand Haven is a boater's paradise with marinas and opportunities for fishing. There are also hiking trails, parks, and places to eat.
Reason 3: Downtown Grand Haven. There are many small shops, restaurants, and artwork to explore. The Coast Guard festival is a popular event.
Reason 4: Family-friendly. There are tons of activities for kids, including camping on the beach, flying kites, and watching boats. The schools and communities are great.
Reason 5: Festivals. Grand Haven has many festivals, including the Coast Guard festival with a renowned fireworks show. The town gets crowded during festivals.
Overall, Grand Haven is a great place to live if you enjoy spending time outdoors, near the water, and in a family-friendly environment. However, it is a touristy destination and can get very crowded during the summer.

Seven years ago I was quoted 31hundo for septic. Btw we knew about pfas when i was a teen in the 60s and 70s. People just don't care. Which brings me to: I always do environmental research online and by phone to the DNR and EPA. Hard to find a square foot of uncontaminated land in the LP but it can be done. My next purchase I will remember to check for light pollution bc where I am now I have missed every celestial event in the last seven years.

7 yrs ago after losing home and family to a fire and being well below poverty level and with no credit I bought four gorgeous pristine rolling wooded acres in NW Lower Michigan on land contract for two k down and 200 a month for six and a half years. Now I have the deed. I wasn't asked a single question about income or credit. I had a lofted 12x14 shed built for 35 hundred, could have done rent to own for about 150 a month. Amish company in Mio, the only one in MI and one of a handful in the country that kiln dries it's treated exterior wood so it won't leach chemicals into your soil and groundwater. It's called North Star. I finished the interior with castoff materials from Craigslist and Habitat stores. Got underground electrical for 16 hundo, overhead is less. I have a camp toilet, hot plate, toaster oven and wood stove. I buy jugs of water which I pour over me for showering or, best feeling ever, shower in a thunderstorm! I do passive laundry, hanging out a couple of dresses, spraying with organic soap, then God rinses and dries them in a few days. I garden veganically with captured rain. I am often moved to tears of gratitude for my beautiful home. It's illegal to live rustically but no one knows or cares. Stop paying exorbitant rent!

@@michaeljeffery7793 we paid 3k per acre. The property has a road cleared to a nice solar cabin. Pro: Western MI, Lower UP north of the Zilwaukee Bridge, and the Thumb Area, are a gorgeous, to say nothing of the UP. If you're outdoorsy, particularly if you like fishing and golf, MI has a lot to offer. Con: Good luck trying to visit those places enough to enjoy them. You'd have to be pretty rich or resourceful to live out those ways, and most of the jobs, housing, and competition over such, are in the SE, in Oakland / Macomb / Wayne. The cost of living is high, while infrastructure is suffering, violent crime seems to be increasing (a friend of mine had SWAT called to her street in Rochester recently, normally a decent-to-good area), and our State and Local Government orgs - regardless of desire or party - just can't seem to keep up with the many problems. And more people from out of the state seem to be moving here every quarter, which isn't helping much - if anything, it feels like everything here is Tourist Priced now. In short, for all the things I like about MI, it feels like living in the pull of a black hole, and the times I get to see the beauty of the dunes and trails are too rare to make up for it. I almost think I'd give my left arm to leave, if I knew where I might like to go and had no other means to get there. So, caveat emptor, prospective neighbors: by all means, visit, but be absolutely sure if you want to move here, because you might be stuck for it after.

Unfortunately for MI, K-12 education has suffered under Republican administrations & the crazy growth of charter (Corporate) schools that siphon off funds by eg not accepting special needs kids. Also, MI suffers from the doings of the Christian Nationalist movement funded here by the likes of the Great Lakes Education Project, started by none other than the Amway DeVoses , esp former education Secretary under Trump Betsy DeVos, whose brother Eric Prince was leader of Blackwater, the private security firm that infamously killed numerous innocent civilians in an incident in Iraq. SO IM THANKFUL FOR OUR CURRENT DEMOCRATIC ADMINISTRATION ADMINISTRATION THAT VALUES ALL PEOPLE.

My wife and I are considering moving to the Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo area from New Orleans. It's like 95 at night and 80% humidity - rough! The crime is also like 80's action movie comically bad - absolutely lawless place! I'm a DJ here and literally everyone I know in the US comes up to Detroit for Movement festival every year and speaks very highly about Michigan in general, not just the techno and rave scene. I also grew up rafting and kayaking so all that water I can put a boat in is pretty appealing! I'll miss the music, the food, and the culture, but the day to day can be pretty tough down here lemme tell ya 😂

One thing that would be really cool to provide is a map of townships by county that are green for "easy to work with" to get things approved or red for "difficult to work with" to get things approved - could do this by different endpoints like the barndominiums, homesteads, etc.

I currently live in north-eastern Virginia and there are some left hand turns here like you describe. I used to live in Chicago so know all about the lake effect snow and the big temperature swings: could go up and down 30° sometimes the same day at certain times of year between the 30-40s to the 60-low 70s. We also got a lot of thick fog sometimes rolling in off Lake Michigan that would blanket the city - similar what you see in parts of San Francisco. Enjoyed your video.

SW MI is stunningly beautiful. We draw tourists every summer (pro: revenue, con: more people). We are the fruit belt and seem to be growing in the beer and wine industries. From SW MI you can access Chicago, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, South Bend in about an hour or two. So you can have small town feel with bigger city access. The last several winters have been mild, not terribly cold or much snow. Our climate has changed and we have even changed in growing zones.

I'm preparing to move back to Michigan from California. What I've noticed with California weather is you can get warmer summers the further inland you are. What I'm curious to learn, is if there is a similar effect with Lake Michigan. And if there is, what would be the ideal distance from the Lake to not experience the extremes in wind, but to feel the lake effect of a cooler summer.

    • @kevinmirwin
      @kevinmirwin 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

I would say that’s partially accurate with Lake Michigan. Let me do some research on that. That’s a great question! It definitely still does not get as hot here as it does in California. I would imagine though if I had to guess 5 miles or so inland from the lake you could get Cooler temperatures, but not get the extreme wind.

The closer you live to Lake Michigan the cooler it is. It keeps you cooler in the summer. You cannot go very far away from the lake because it will be hot. I live in St. Joe on Lake Michigan. Even a ¼ mile in or less is hotter.
