Hello Mick,
Just wanted to give you a big Thank You . This video probably saved me hundred of pounds.
Why? Because the roller on my HRX 476 stopped working. The chain was hanging down.
Not having a clue what caused it nor having the confidence or knowledge to fix it, I found your video about this!
It gave me the confidence to have a look. I did, and found that the tensioner spring had become dislodged.
After removing all the grass caught up around the chain & tensioner, I lubricated the chain, reattached it back onto the cogs and re-fitted the spring using your method of a pull cord. Fantastic tip.
Started up mower and all working fine
Had I put the mower into a repairer I could have been charged a fortune if they were unscrupulous, or at best £80 to fix & clean it up .
So, want to send you some money - if you don't want to accept then take it and give it to charity. Either way you saved me some serious money.
Let me know how to do this. (Not that familiar with using TH-cam)
Regards, Michael B
Hi mate ... Wow thanks.. it's why I do videos to help people out. If your serious about sending me something I do have a PayPal.. feel free micksmowers01@gmail.com
Riley is the man. He’s always so happy 😁
Some great tips in this video.
A customer brought an all wheel drive Husqvarna mower over for repair yesterday.
It wouldn’t roll in reverse. Also brought a new blade and air filter, about $35.00.
Rear axle and transmission were jam packed with grass. Some with the front. Enough to fill a plastic shopping bag.
Took over an hour to clear it out. Also needed a new drive wheel, that was a big issue, too, as two of the screws holding the drive gear on the wheel had backed out due to the mounting holes splitting.
The total bill for repairs, with an oil change, was $140.00,
They thought it was too much and gave me the mower in lieu of a bill.
An hour later a buddy of mine saw them buying a new one, just over $500.00.
Go figure. It must be nice , at least they are lubing up the economy!
Yeah I see this all the time. People trying to save money then go out and spend lots. Makes me sence to me. Ta for watching
Very useful, I had exactly the same issue with my mower. This saved much messing about, thanks Mick
No worries mate
Thanks, this really helped me fix my mower! Same model but a few years older, the drive belt had slipped off. Would have taken me a hell of a lot longer without this video.
Your welcome mate .. that's what the videos are for.. and saved you a couple of ££ at the same time..
Spot on video buddy, my roller stopped working, googled it, your video came up, watched it, liked it, subscribed and now fixed my mower…..I didn’t have a roll pin but found a tight fitting split pin…..time will tell if he lasts.
Cheers again buddy!
Mike
Fantastic news.. hope it holds up..
First off kudos to the amazing couple for donating the mail parcel for your amazing lad , and to see his smile is something money 💰 could never buy. Great to see you work on this type of mower. Your tips are amazing and will help a lot of people to get their mower back up and running 🏃♂️. I have a Mountfield 555 rv and I love it with it’s Honda 190 cc engine and heavyweight rear roller. My lawn is large but with this bad boy the job is a breeze especially for an old Scots reptile like me. Thank you for sharing your great video with us Sir 👍 Tam.
Your welcome my friend. Yeah seeing rileys face light up makes my day too
Awesome video. Much head and heartache from a broken mower! Nothing better than getting stuck in a having a go yourself. These videos are absolutely priceless for people like me. Many thanks!
Little tip, if you don't mind a bit more noise - fit a solid blade without the vents. I found that it creates much more lift. Sucks and chucks wet grass right to the back of the box! Hope that might help someone!
thanks Mick, excellent help and video, we inherited dads Honda lawnmower and found it great till it stopped moving forward, Found your You Tube videos and now know just what I need to repair it, wouldn't have had a clue with out your site, best regards Lum, Essex
No worries.. let me know how you get on..
I have a similar mower the Hrx478 (but with 4 wheels) so any vid on these helps because you take them to the mower shop and you can kiss between 1 and 2 hundred quid goodbye so thanks again Mick. The wife loved seeing Riley open his treats.
He went mad hey lol he loves a gift
Absolutely spot on,fantastic video, with unbelievable instructions,it was exactly the same problem with my mower,it was just a matter of fitting a new pin,and it's perfect, I am no mechanic but following all these instructions was so easy,I am in great admiration of this guy, once again thank you,top lad 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Yo yo ... Your very welcome.. happy Mowing
Thank you for your excellent video.
You've kept my rollers rolling and my lawn nice and trim. Many many thanks. Youtubing at its best.
Thanks John mate
I got one of those mowers for free a couple of years ago, immaculate condition. Sold it on a Monday, didn’t need to work the rest of the week 😀👍🍺
Feet up and beer time sweet
Riley boy has a great dad!
Nice little fix great how to as always. Riley boy is a ⭐️ Great follower
sending goodies 👏
Mate fantastic this happened to my 476 today now l know its the rolling you've helped me out big time
Fantastic.. hope you got it sorted
Great stuff Mick - sorted my mower out this afternoon and saved my self a lot of money. Well done, extremely helpful video
Fantastic.. that's why I do the videos.
Omg! I was into sharks and dinosaurs as a child. Tons of toys and books. My father would tell Chris all these stories on how I use to name them all. She didn’t have a clue...nor did I think I could still retain some of that knowledge. We went a museum that had an exhibit and I was like a kid in a candy shop!
That mower looks identical to the HRX217 versamow I just restyled respired that I featured on the channel. When I hit it big, gonna have you ship you one over. Would love to see the difference of a roller built in vs not!
I have a special set of punches for roll pins. Called roll pin punches. See them all the time on Snowblower’s.
Great tip on the roll pin I'll use that in the future thanks mick
Mick's Mowers! You tell 'em, Riley Boy!
Nice work as always, Mick! God bless.
Thanks for the comment mate
It’s your tips that keep me coming back. The way you tear into that HRX leads one to conclude you’ve got the disassembly fairly well memorized! 🤔👍
Well I'm not afraid to get down and dirty so that helps lol
Wow that seems to be a rather complicated machine. I bet the lawn looks great after it is mowed with this mower. Riley Boy is such a happy guy especially when he gets those chocolate eggs. He did great on the introduction. Thanks to your subscribers for their gifts. You guys stay safe and thanks for the videos.
Well hello. Yeah Riley loves an egg. And the subscribers are great with him.. thanks for watching
Had just this problem. Great trick to get the pin started. Then drifted in with a socket extension.
Fantastic.. hope the video was helpful
Great video. You always have great tips and tricks to share. Thank you for sharing the knowledge.
Your welcome my friend
A great fix Mick. I paused you for five to order some roll pins. Reilly is a real credit to you all, a lovely young fella. Great channel Mick, the best on the interweb 👍🏼
Wow thanks for the great comment.. hope all is good your end
You've just made my morning even better. Thankyou
How come ?
Great Vid Mick, never seen the mechanicals on the roller drive before. Good seeing Riley Boy too!! Cheers!
Great vid mick as always, your so skilled just to have noticed that tiny pin was missing .great to see Riley boy happy as always, keep up the good work mate 👍
Thanks very much and thanks for supporting the channel
Great talking riley boy you are a little super star fantastic tip with the screwdriver Mick another great job 👍👍👍👍
Hello Mick. Good tips and great fix. I like the rear roller. We don't see those over here in the states. Lots of good things for Riley, he's a lucky boy
Brilliant video thank you. Recently picked one of these up no drive. Drive belt was off but brand new and found no chain and importantly roll pin was missing lol. Looks like new gearbox fitted as well. Put belt on and gear to chain is now driving....just need to get a chain...on that, have you made a video showing a new chain being fitted....?
Just remove the drive sprocket and fit it .. it's easy enough to do..
Oh. Maybe I don't even need a new belt then? A tweak up might do it because it only slips with a heavy load or going uphill. Your video was very helpful for the disassembly. Thanks
I think one of my videos shows how to adjust it .. I have 2 or 3 on this model..
Looks like its fully adjusted up. I've got a new belt on order so will compare them when it arrives. The freeplay in the cable is good so not sure what else could be causing the slip
@@MrBubba59 well load the box up and run it up hill. With the side cover off you may see a chain slipping or some??
Will try that. Belt looks OK to me but trying a new one while everything is in bits.
Thanks for this insight on how the mower comes apart. I was looking at it thinking what a nightmare, how on earth do I get to that.
Thanks buddy
Your welcome mate
I do like honda's recently brought an izy for £20 off s scrapman cleaned the carb and it runs smooth.
Would you take 30 plus delivery .tenner proffit ? 😜👍🏻
@@tgun9248 I will offer a £5 if he delivers it lol
They are great but rust very well too
Micks Mowers done a carboot sale for my uncle yesterday and someone was selling a stihl rm655 rs. Wanted 300 pound for it.massive though weighed a tonne even though it had an aluminium deck .was in too minds of getting it though.nearly a grand to buy arent they
Honda’s sell really well here in the states. $200 minimum and $500 on the versamows! Hope that Izzy paid your back 10 fold!
Nice love the tip👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 you should do a top ten tips video 😃
When I think of 10 I will lol
Fantastic again my mate.very impressive. Keep the great content coming.👍🏻
Excellent as Usual Mick , love the tip pal
Welcome mate
Hello Mick, great video thank you. On my 476 the chain is loose and it comes off. What I’ve noticed that the chain tensioner arm is bit loose as in wiggles. The trouble is I don’t know how it should be as the bolts holding it are tight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Well done mick nice little tip. 👍
Yeah a good one hey mate
Thanks Mick. I have never seen that type of chain drive. I bet I will soon.
Morning friend. They are a good mower but the gearbox is made very poorly
I know we are neighbors...a lot of our equipment is the same. Ever come across some of these style mowers? Still blows my mind that we have to pay extra for a roller as an attachment. Not built in!
Great video, many thanks for all the handy tips - guess what im doing later this week haha!
Lol good luck
Nice work Mick.
Nice tip mick. You made it look easier than it is! Roger
Can be a pig just take your time
Nice fix mick, well done!!!
Great fix mate and awesome tip
Hi Mick, good fix not a fan of those cheaper gearboxes Honda use on that range of mowers (I think they are made by general transmissions) , but this one is now good to go again, good video🙂👍
Yeah I hear ya. Still an expensive mower for a home user. They cut well and I like the engine. But your right the gearbox is cheaply made. Hope all is good your end mate
Great video really helpful cheers
Your welcome mate
Neat fix mate . A 20 minute one at least lol.
Pete you be in a flap for 20 minutes with that bolt😂
@@eastcoastuk9705 lol.
Sorry Pete it took me 20mins to read your comment lol
Was trying to save the threads . That is my excuse lol.
great video, thanks. I have a HRX 426C, drive not working. I'm guessing all the stuff in your video works for my mower as well.
Yeah they are all Prítte much the same
Top fix Mick, love the roll pin trick.
Leave it leave it
Micks Mowers 😂
I dabble in the odd machinery repair for friends . One of these mowers came to me today with " no drive" .Had a quick look tonight and chain and belt were off, so am guessing this roll pin has done a walkabout like yours and shaft has moved .Just wondering if there was a way of getting that roll pin to stay in, like some loctite seal of some kind .Maybe a small nut and bolt .seams like wear and tear and roll pin drops out. Great video and thanks .You may have saved me hours of looking and head scratching Mick .
No problems mate.. the roll pin is made of high tensile still so I would use on then a bolt.. glad the video helped
@@themowerman Yes helped me loads .I had a look quickly today at the mower and the roll pin was missing.
Great Video. Mine is only suffering from the belt slipping with a full grass box. Is a new belt required or is there any adjustment to tighten it up?
Some adjustments on the roller.. with an Alan bolt.
Hi Mick, great video thank you. Quick question, i have the hrb 425, just took off the chain cover and noticed that its off the sprocket and on the shoulders of the tensioner and guide.
Looks as though the alignment between the sprockets and the tensioner is off but I don't know why. Are there workshop manuals for honda mowers available to the general public?
Check the small pins on the gearbox shaft.. if they have broken the gearbox will slide
Do u ever do a shed tour mick
Bless him
Yeah he's great
Thanks mate
Your welcome mate
Afternoon Mick, was watching one of your video when you said you can get throttle cable(solid) of eBay ..been looking but can't find it..what would it come under. Keep doing your video ,learning a lot ...thanks
Bună!
Hrx476 CSDE nu mai cuplează rotile de tracțiune. Rulmenții cu ace sunt stricați și semeringurile. Știți unde găsesc? Mulțumesc!
Put the spring on upside down😛
Hi Mick, is the drive mechanism on the HRX 476 similar to the HRX 426 (with the rear steel roller)? I bought an HRX 426 recently and the drive is very weak. I suspect the drive belt is either loose or needs replacing, but being unable to find any info on this specific model, (only on the 4 wheel version which is quite different) I'm unsure how to to tackle it. When I engage the drive bar, the drive chain rotates as it should, (as seen through the gap where the blade height adjuster handle sits) but the mower needs a push to get it moving. It won't propel itself from stationary.
Hi mate .. yes it's the same as the 476..
Great Vid Mick, my question to my mower Honda 476 starts to lose drive when its been run for 1/2 hour or so. Once cold its fine. Mower is aprox 9 years old. Do you think its the clutch or the drive belt. Thanks
Could be the coil
Hi mick
I have been gifted a HRX 426 and I have filled this vid and the chain is on, the belts on and when not under load the rear roller does spin but as soon as I start to cut the grass there seems to be not enough power to drive it.
I dis notice the bulky with the belt on what wuite stiff and tight in a part of the rotation, what could this be im at a loss and would love to get it fixed as it was my dad's.
Thanks craig
Sounds like the gearbox mate
Oh no, any vidsds showing how to repair ir
Hi Mick, great videos - been really helpful for me. One question - do you oil the drive chain? Mine looks dry and touch of surface rust but I am concerned oil only serve to create a grinding paste?
Yeah oil it up mate
Great job glad rileyboy got tohang out with dad on mail call

Iv got same problem but the spring pin has broken off inside the shaft and it won’t budge any ideas?
Small punch mate .. and a hammer
Just wondering, what size roll pin did you use?
Ohh I can't remember. I got a pack for about £3

Hello Mick I have a problem with my HRX 426 when I put the lever to the Stop position my Lawnmower keeps running. If you can help me on this, I would be so grateful. Thanks John 👍
