      I was speaking with a Canadian couple they had crossed into the Bahamas and in the exumas they lost there rudder. There boat was newer and well maintained. If there is one thing I can say its that no matter what vessel new old brand new! We ALL will have issues and mistakes. It's just the nature of sailing. Only I'm dumb enough to say I'll post what ever happens. Kinda like a truth vlog. I like owning up and learning everyday out here. I only hope it makes me a better captain and my digital crew learns too...

      You have great stories to tell! You can only get then by DOING!
      Make a list, prioritize and go one step at a time. but you should not go with KNOWN issues with the hull! Yikes!

    You are a pretty good representation of average sailors. Most of us are just trying to stay ahead of things with what we can figure out or scrape together. Watching you make questionable decisions, struggle and learn from them is entertaining. I've made many of my own and will surly make more in the future, so no offence intended.

    Great rebound…I’m a bit concerned about your comment stating your vessel “isn’t ready”, if that is the case I strongly urge you to back off going over to the Bahamas and getting the needed work done on your ship. You already went through a bad experience and was blessed that it happened in the US. Love you videos because it’s about issues that really affect novices sailor like myself…

      Make sure to stay tuned once I'm up that way drop a comment and let's go for a beer! Where are you at? I'll keep it in mind. Alot of the time out here a goal is needed. A reason to sail somewhere. Once you have your own boat you can go anywhere! Literally. Japan? Scotland? Hawaii? It can be overwhelming at first. I miss Virginia especially Norfolk. It's something out of a history book. I stayed at holiday bay and could tell ship's would anchor there from the British navy. Old wooden sailing ships! And just on the land were probably the admirals houses. Unreal. This time when I get back there I'm going to really capture that in a video. It seems so far away yet I was just sailing thru the Naval docks like it was yesterday...

    I’m glad you decided to do a Hall out in major repair upgrade
    Question is Why are you taking the boat all the way back to Canada to do it?
    That trip alone is going to cost you thousands of dollars that you could just put right into the boat. Haul the boat out someplace in the south and have the work done there.

    • @sailingEV888
      @sailingEV888  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I live on my boat. The savings in rent alone will be massive. Port credit yatch club also has a full wood shop will band saws and area for major repairs. But yes I've considered this. I may do the haul out at block marine in Moorhead city area.

    now that was a fun episode Your getting your confidence back and have plans-- Hurray-- My dad and I took his 35 Bristol down the water way and had a ball. Think he liked the "motor" in motorsailer, as the ICW suited him fine. I went into outboard motor repair and loved it. Glad to hear the boat is running fine. Think you will do good. Last time I was in the Bahamas I was 4. Now I;m 74, so maybe things have changed a bit. Keep up the good work Cheers.

    I wonder why you are again sailing/motoring south to Miami in order to cross to Bimini. You have been there 2 or 3 times and there is not much more to see. Assume your 3 mth checkin to Bahamas is still valid, so why don't you try another easy route?
    Leave and sail to West End area (there are some protected anchorages nearby), sail to the Berries, sail to southern Abacos, including Hopetown, then sail N and NW up the Abaco chain and from there cross to Mid/N FL on your way back to Canada. Nassua is not the best destination for a low budget cruiser (and has some crime issues currently) and I agree that this late in the season getting to George Town or even mid Exumas would be a stretch. Also with the alternate route, the water is plenty warm in the Berries and Abacos this time of year, this route has reasonable grocery stores in Marsh Harbour, will take you to some beautiful islands and cays and make the sail back to Canada a few hundred miles shorter. Just an idea.

    • @sailingEV888
      @sailingEV888  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. Just above chub key is the berries like you mentioned. I just want to go past where I turned around last time to prove a point. After all the world is watching. The reason I'm heading back to Miami is because it really can't that far. It will allow me to get fresh provisions in Halandale where I am now. The plan cross to the Bahama bank onto chub Kay and most likely berries.. OR make a video about the fact Nassau is dangerous! Good advice. Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Cheers.

I was also in pickering. .years ago. .your ground plate failure. . I suspect. . Not from a hit. . It's from poor management . . maintenance. . Marina issues. Electric issues. . . maybe talk. To Karen. . I survived there one winter. Because I did not plug in. . And I used. Battery cables. Of the side. To ground the boat. . . Again .be more positive. . I think you are the victim of bad advice. .

      My own bad advice promising to post what ever happens. But I'm a man of my word and I really think most sailors have a similar experience things alway break shit happens out here. People should know what they are getting into. I'll be and old salt like you I'm sure in years to come with every conceivable thing covered. For now I'm 2000 nm miles from home hurricane season pressing down on me soon. I'm very low on funds due to a film strike last year. I cut peoples lawns for a landscaping company and busted my ass last year to be out here making videos.. up until last year I was a 25 year senior member if IATSE 667. Still am. Strikes over. Back to Canada refit this boat and get into the ultimate ocean crossing machine of terror! Then it's off to sail to Scotland where I was born. "And the sea brings dreams of home".. My home is where ever EV is..

      Going on an ocean crossing without checking your bilge pump is gross negligence. That is basic boat ownership knowledge. You are lucky you haven't injured yourself or someone else.

    • @kevincourtney7312

      I sailed Lake Michigan and crossed to Lk Erie and Superior on a Catalina 22 and used jumper cables with a piece of 2" copper pipe soldered to each for lightening protection. Clamp them to the shrouds on either side and it will do the trick.

    • @sailingEV888
      @sailingEV888  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I checked my bilge pumps. Of course I did. The high water level blew a fuse. Lesson learned I've rewired so this will not happen again.
