I have taken it twice and failed both. I try again on the 24th. I am changing my study method and already ordered the book because I have memorized Certify Teacher yet still failed. Please pray with me that I pass. I am on an intern certificate that is ending.
When I sat down for the test my lips were parched. It's important to stay hydrated because that discomfort was real for me. I tackled the supplementary 163 (100 questions) portion, which took me 3 hours. Miraculously, I passed on my first attempt. Throughout the test, I took just one break to drink water and visit the restroom. I made sure to stretch and move around in my chair to stay focused. Surprisingly, I wasn't nervous at all; in fact, I was quite excited to take the test. The last time I took a TExES test was way back in 2010. My test was scheduled for 2:00 PM, but I arrived at the testing center an hour early.
OMG, finally someone who created a video and got to the point . Thank you so much I am going to go get the book. I do agree you can't wait until crunch time. I will post and let you know when I take my exam and PASS IT!!!
Thank you so much I passed on my 1st try!! I was so undecided what to study and I just got the book because you recommended and that was all I studied.
Thank you so much for this video. I am about to take the PPR, my very first teacher certification exam, next week. I have been studying with certify teacher but this week I am going to use more of the resources you listed. You have such a calming and encouraging presence, and I've watched this video several times because it motivates me so much!
Thank you for this I took my ec-6 and passed everything except math 😒😒but I will retake it Jan 1st I’m doing the alternative cert route great video ! I will make sure I use your quizlet to my studying routine
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful tips, I really appreciate you taking your time to do this video and providing all of the links! I live in Texas as well, and I'm really nervous about the math portion of the test. Could you give me an idea what that part looks like on the exam, do we have to work some mathematical problems on paper; or are they all multiple choices? Thank you! :)
Thank you for this information, because I too took the exam in January after studying the Certify Teacher prep ($120) and my scores were 76s and 78s. After studying for months, I was told by my education advisor that was the wrong study prep I was given, and it should have been 240 Tutoring however, the testing centers were shut down due to the pandemic and I have since graduated (May 2nd). Nonetheless, I have been studying the 240 Tutorials but I need the approval from the College to take the exam, which I need to take this exam soon.
Cindy Richard oh wow! I know that must be frustrating. Congratulations on graduating girl!! I hope your school gives you approval soon. Do you feel like 240tutoring is helping you?
Im on ACP and works in medical field. I passed my EC-6 last Oct.2019. I struggled in Math so I studied well with pen and paper, doin a lot of practice and solving. Thank God I conquered Math and became successful. Recently, i passed PPR on my very 1st attempt. So practice a lot. I made a commitment not to spend time on FB or social media while preparing for math exam. Congratulations Ruth! I practiced a lot too! I never really thought about the vitamins, but I'm sure they are a great tool to help you focus. Good luck on your ESL exam. I will be taking the ESL exam this summer.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I just accepted an elementary position and have a week to study for the EC-6 (I only have 4-8 and elar 7-12). I am super nervous but resources like this help. I hope your student teaching went well! I would love to hear your experience so far.
Thank you Steph! I'm glad you enjoyed this video and hope the resources I share help you pass the exam. I will definitely share more information about my student teaching experience later, but overall I was really pleased. I learned so much from my mentor teacher and our students. Good luck on your exam!
Do you think you will create a video on how to take notes? I’m currently trying to study for ESL supplemental 154. I’m just curious on how to attack each competency with taking notes and how to attack it all together.
Hey- Great info! Would you recommend using the same study material for those who have to take the PACT: Essential Academic Skills (Reading, Writing, Mathematics)?
Thank you for the tips. My bachelor's degree is not in education so I'm going through an alternative program. They changed the testing on 1/27/20 and now it just covers Core Math, Writing and Reading. They say it is strictly over content not the teaching. Where did you find all of the practice exams? I am using 240Tutoring and the STAAR released tests for EC-6.
Susan Collet oh wow! I wasn't aware that they changed the exam 😬. I used a ton of practice quizzes that I found online to study and the REA book. All of the links are in the description box. Also, if you go to the pearson website and click the prepare tab it will lead you to some study materials as well.
Susan Collet Is there any information on the new version of the exam? I’m still seeing all subjects listed for the EC-6 on the Texas Education website so I’m not sure if they’re still requiring all subjects or just Math, Reading and Writing.
I just checked the Pearson website where you register for the exams. I don't see the option to register for the PACT Ec-6 exam, but the TEXES version is still available. I read somewhere that if you take the PPR exam, you cannot take the PACT exam. Since the test is so new, I haven't really heard anyone talk about it. This is the website I referenced www.tx.nesinc.com/PageView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/GENRB_FacultyPACT.html
Hello! Do you have any advice on how to study for the math part of the test? How and where do I get practice math problems? I have the book and I am also subscribed to 240 tutoring. It’s a little irritating that we are only given one hour to complete the math part with 47 questions. Do you have suggestions on how to manage your time during the test on test day? I have passed all sections of the EC-6 core exam except for the math. I have scheduled to take it on the 28th of this month. This will be my fourth time to take it. The first time I missed it by two points. Second time I bombed it really bad. The third time I missed it by five points. I figured I will pass it this time around. I am super close. I am so ready to pass this test and move on to the next test. If you have any advice for the math part please feel free to share. I am open for any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance for all of your help.
Hello Keisha! I'm so sorry you're having a hard time with the math portion of the exam. It is hard to say what you should use to study without knowing your scores. I would definitely start by determining which competency had the most incorrect answers (My weakest area was competency 1). If you have your scorecards handy, compare your scores in the competencies to see if there is a pattern. Then I would focus on studying the areas you struggled with the most. 1 hour is short for 47 questions and I even struggled to finish the last question before the time ran out. So my time management recommendation is to choose the best answer, but don't spend too much time agonizing over the problem. Watch the clock (give yourself 5-10 minutes if you can) and flag the questions you're not sure about or feel like you want to take another look at before submitting. I also try not to change my answers because my first choice is normally the right answer and sometimes I get the answer wrong if I change it. For practice on the math test, I used this study manual from the TEA website because I felt these questions mimic the real test. www.tx.nesinc.com/content/docs/291PrepManual.pdf A few other resources I found that have practice questions www.coresubjectsec-6.com/ pact.tarleton.edu/tcert/Content/Documents/Math%20Presentation%20PP.pdf And these Quizlets have a lot of math terms that I think may be useful. quizlet.com/_4jbu18?x=1jqt&i=1lc9fr quizlet.com/_5z3vg8?x=1jqt&i=1lc9fr I also think that using 240Tutoring and the prep book should help you study once you figure out where you are struggling. There are also a few TH-cam videos out that may help with the math portion. th-cam.com/video/TAjs1jZWjcY/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/vJ1UofYSOao/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps! :)
TeachQueenQ Thank you so much for all of your information and advice. I am definitely going to be using it. I will also be using the resources you listed. When I was so close on each competency. I may have missed it by one or two. I just wish there was a way I could know which questions count and which ones don’t. That is ok. I have 27 days to study like a mad person and get it done. Thanks again for everything
Hi I seen your comment and wanted to ask you has the REA book been helping you? I have been using the book and 240 tutoring and still am not passing my practice test and I'm starting to freak out because I take my test Oct. 25.
TeachQueenQ also mentioned that there was a book that she found at her library that had all of the key words. Does anybody know what book she is referring to?
So I failed the test on my first try.. I’ve purchased the REA booklet now. Anyone have any ideas on how to make sure I pass it the second go around? I retake on July 2nd.
Start by focusing on the competencies that you struggle with based on your scores. Try to build your knowledge on those areas and it should bring your score up.
Hi, thank you for the videos.. Quick question, did the exam have any content questions about what each grade should know in areas like Math, Social Studies, etc?
I noticed in the practice exams a lot of the questions are repeated. Meaning if I take the test once (under practice mode) then retake it , a lot of the questions repeat. Do a lot of these questions repeat on the actual test?
On the real exam, the questions don't repeat. I'm not sure why they do on the practice exams, but it's possible they do that to reinforce the information.
Thanks you very much TeachQueenQ I was wondering if anybody has taken the Business and Finance (276) test and has found a quizlet based on how the competency questions that are given on the real test?
I'm schedule to take the 161 exam special education May 19th, I currently work as a special ed aide. My question is if 20 question isn't counted want this hurt your score rather than help it?
Hi Brandy P! The number of questions that aren't scored varies for everyone. I don't believe this hurts you, because its kinda like the score is graded on a curve. I can't really explain it, but I plan to record a video on this. Here is a link from Pearson where I found this information. I hope this helps! Good luck on your exam! www.tx.nesinc.com/PageView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/GENRB_ScoringFAQ.html
Math is not hard to learn, but I'm haven't passed the Math section because some of the Math problems have long paragraphs to read. Is hard to read more than half the Math problems in less than an hour period, so I panic and the timer goes off! How can I prepare myself to better understand those reading Math problems?!!!!
Vicente Santiago Cruz I totally understand your frustration about having to read paragraphs on the math portion of the exam. I was racing the clock to finish my last math question, so I completely understand. 1. If you're confident that the time frame is the issue of the math portion, try taking a practice math exam in the time frame they provide for the real exam. (47 questions in 1 hour) 2. I really utilized the highlight and strike through feature during the exam. Try to highlight important information in the question AND answer choices and strike through answer choices that are obviously incorrect. - When I took the exam I would highlight words or phrases in the answer choice that may indicate the answer is correct. I think this helped me to focus and remember my thinking just in case I decide to revisit the question. 3. For questions that take a lot of time you have to make habit of choosing the most favorable choice QUICKLY. It won't help you to spend more than 2 minutes on 1 question, so flag it and come back to it when you have time.
Lydia Byrd hey! You take test on the computer, but the testing center I went to provided a permanent marker and laminated sheet to user for scatch paper.
Hi!! I have two questions Are we allowed to use a calculator on the math part for the Core Subjects EC-6? 2nd I do a lot of writting on the math part while Solving the problems, how many sheets do I get? Thank you so much! The video helps a lot
You are not allowed to use a calculator on the math section. When I took the test, they gave me a spiral bound booklet with like 4 pages. Be mindful of your time on the math portion, some of those questions are pretty wordy. I hope this helps.
I am so happy you passed on your first try! Thanks for all your helpful tips and for giving us hope! :) Do you have any tips for the Social Studies section? Is it more content-based or scenario-based? So nervous for that section.
I'm glad you found this video to be helpful! Social studies was the section that I was the most nervous about. The test was mostly content based. I remember it had a lot of Texas history and the amendments. I specifically remember seeing questions that I have on my quizlets. quizlet.com/13108082/texes-ec-6-social-studies-flash-cards/?i=1lc9fr&x=1jqY quizlet.com/13108082/texes-ec-6-social-studies-flash-cards/?i=1lc9fr&x=1jqY quizlet.com/350318468/hist-3223-final-exam-flash-cards/?i=1lc9fr&x=1jqY quizlet.com/350675224/amendments-to-know-for-hist-3223-exam-flash-cards/?i=1lc9fr&x=1jqY
@@TeachQueenQ You are so awesome! Last question, I took your advice and purchased the REA TExES book/review, but I was going to ask if you had any tips for the Fine Arts/Health/PE section? I know some people have said that the section is outdated... are there any specifics we need to know? Is it more scenario-based or is it more of "name the artist, music note, exercise" type of questions. Thanks!
HI there.. Love your info! Quick question please... Is the math hard? Are there a lot of equations to have to solve? it's my weakest subject... How many can you miss? I take my exam tuesday
Hi Amy! I didn't feel that it was painfully hard, but I also love math. Competency #1 of the math test has the most questions and that is where the majority of my missed questions came from. Most of the questions are about the application and not so much solving the problem. - Competency 001 (Mathematics Instruction): The teacher understands how students learn mathematical skills and use that knowledge to plan, organize and implement instruction and assess learning. I remember having to work out a couple questions but I didn't feel that they were extremely hard. Most of the test looks just like the questions in this study manual. I worked through these a couple times and some of the ones in the links that I put in the description bar. www.tx.nesinc.com/content/docs/291PrepManual.pdf So I looked at my scorecard and there were 40 questions on the math portion of the test. I answered 28/40 questions correctly which should have been 70% (aka not passing). I passed with a 269/300 (aka 89.6%)! After I did my calculations it seems that they discarded about 10 questions. I can't guarantee how many questions you shouldn't miss, so I'll just say try not to miss more than 12! I hope this helps!
Alicia Hall Hi! I took the exam on the computer. There are questions on the exam that they are being tested for future exams. Every version of the test is different so I can't give you the exact number. On the Pearson website where you get your scores it tells you.. www.tx.nesinc.com/PageView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/GENRB_ScoringFAQ.html Have you taken your exam?
This is what my study schedule looked like. *Keep in mind that this is what worked for me. Week 1 - Read and take notes on each section/ subject/domain - I made sure to take notes of anything that was new information to me. Week 2 - Read over your notes every day/ make a quizlet over acronyms, dates, or hard to remember terms. Week 3 - Take a practice quiz every few days. *Make sure they are different because you don't want to memorize the answer. (there are a few in the description bar) Week 4 - *Look at the competencies you struggle the most with and study, study, study that information again. Then take another practice quiz to see if you're making progress When I finally made an 80 or higher I knew I was ready.
I have a question. I want to teach science in either middle school or elementary. Is the TeXEs 4-8 science, the correct examination I should be studying for? I think the number of the exam is 116. Does anybody know if that’s the correct exam? I am currently doing Texas Teacher certification cause I graduated with a bachelors in Criminal Justice so I am doing an online program. Thank you :)
Hi! If you're planning to teach 4-8 science then the 116 exam is the right one. I would ask whoever is in charge of your program just in case Pearson has made any changes.
Im scheduled to take the core exam August 3rd, and i do not feel ready! I have failed the practice exams D: What book is it that tells you the key words to look out for?
Hi! Its been a while since I've taken the exam, but it is one of these books. Both books are available at my library, so if I get a chance to go I will let you know. www.amazon.com/Kaplan-TExES-Ann-Hall/dp/1419550195 www.amazon.com/Barrons-TExES-Leader-Test-Preparation/dp/0764143808/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=barron%27s+texes+prep&qid=1595296653&s=books&sr=1-1
B. Tate it really depends on which exam you are taking. For the EC-6 CORE EXAM you are not allowed to use a calculator. If you are talking a different exam they will provide an on screen calculator if it is allowed. You can verify by choosing your exam on this website and it will be listed for you www.tx.nesinc.com/PageView.aspx?f=GEN_Tests.html
Hi! Thanks for your info! I been using 240 tutoring to study, but I’ll be buying the book tomorrow to study for the SPED. Do you recommend I what I need to focus on?
There are questions that aren't scored and that number is different for everyone. If you have time, please go watch part 3 of this video series. I show my scorecard and proof of the information I shared.
TeachQueenQ Thank you, I will ! I guess I’m trying to figure out if you don’t get a 80 precent or above on each section is it automatically a fail or will your EPP not take you.
Oh I understand. So if you fail one subject of the exam it counts as Not passed for the entire exam. But you only have to retake the subject you failed. It's your EPPs decision if they will accept your scores.
Hi! I just got my PPR results , I score a 239 , I failed by 1 point. I study quizlet , 240 and the $10 practice exam. What do you suggest for me to do? I have taken it twice and fail. I’m so devastated.
Hi! I'm so sad to hear that because you were so close. I failed that PPR exam that my university's EPP requires twice, so I understand how frustrating it can be. My recommendation for you during the waiting period is to look closely at your score cards side by side. Look for the competencies that you're weakest in. See if there are any similarities between the competencies you're struggling with on both scorecards. I would really focus only those areas the most. If you still have 240tutoring.com, you can study by competency. Also, there are free practice tests out that the TEA provides for free. I think that this is as close to the type of questions on the state exam. If you don't know how to access them, I show how to find them in part three of this series. th-cam.com/video/F3mwA86Qi9c/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps! 😊
TeachQueenQ Thank you so much for your reply. Reading your comment has made me feel much better. I appreciate all your suggestions. Thank you for doing your videos. They are very helpful. I will follow your tips and hopefully I will pass next time. 💞
@@TeachQueenQ Hello! Wow I can’t believe it’s been a year already since I comment on your video. I just want to share the news with you and say that I have pass the PPR test. Thanks for all your videos . 🙌🙌🙌

I added the links to some free study materials in the description bar.🙂

For practice on the math test, I used this study manual from the TEA website because I felt these questions mimic the real test.
www.tx.nesinc.com/content/docs/291PrepManual.pdf
A few other resources I found that have practice questions
www.coresubjectsec-6.com/
pact.tarleton.edu/tcert/Content/Documents/Math%20Presentation%20PP.pdf
And these Quizlets have a lot of math terms that I think may be useful.

quizlet.com/_5z3vg8?x=1jqt&i=1lc9fr
I also think that using 240Tutoring and the prep book should help you study once you figure out where you are struggling. There are also a few TH-cam videos out that may help with the math portion.

I hope this helps!
@@keishacoleman2815 You're welcome and good luck on your exam!
I take my exam on Oct. 20th! This has helped me a lot!
Hi I seen your comment and wanted to ask you has the REA book been helping you? I have been using the book and 240 tutoring and still am not passing my practice test and I'm starting to freak out because I take my test Oct. 25.
@@Jasgscott I am taking 232 social studies. Certify teacher has been a great help!
Are we allowed to use a calculator for the math portion?
Hi, thank you for the videos.. Quick question, did the exam have any content questions about what each grade should know in areas like Math, Social Studies, etc?
Honestly, I don't remember. It has been awhile since I took the exam, so its not fresh in my mind anymore.
This was good. Thanks 😊
Thank you!💜
When should I start tutoring for the TExES Exam?
I'm a special education major and I've heard that the exam is very hard.
It really depends on how devoted you are to studying. I studied for 1 month, but I was taking 6 classes at the time.
What forms of identification will work? All I have with my picture is my drivers license!
I graduated from TWU as a nutritionist
Thanks you very much TeachQueenQ I was wondering if anybody has taken the Business and Finance (276) test and has found a quizlet based on how the competency questions that are given on the real test?
Thank you for all your help. where can we take the practice tests ?Is there any website where we can book a slot amd take them?
I'm schedule to take the 161 exam special education May 19th, I currently work as a special ed aide. My question is if 20 question isn't counted want this hurt your score rather than help it?
Hi Brandy P! The number of questions that aren't scored varies for everyone. I don't believe this hurts you, because its kinda like the score is graded on a curve. I can't really explain it, but I plan to record a video on this. Here is a link from Pearson where I found this information. I hope this helps! Good luck on your exam!

Do you have a college degree?
how did the test go? any helpful tips?
The content test I’ll be taking is 391.
Hi! Would you say the REA practice test mimic the real test?
Yes but I would use more than one resource/book to practice with 😊
Math is not hard to learn, but I'm haven't passed the Math section because some of the Math problems have long paragraphs to read.
(47 questions in 1 hour)
Debating on whether or not I should purchase 240 tutoring for my ESL test coming up in April. Can anybody tell me their experience with the website?
Do they give you a pencil and paper or no? Thanks!
Lydia Byrd hey! You take test on the computer, but the testing center I went to provided a permanent marker and laminated sheet to user for scatch paper.
Hi!!
I have two questions
Are we allowed to use a calculator on the math part for the Core Subjects EC-6?
2nd I do a lot of writting on the math part while
Solving the problems, how many sheets do I get?
Thank you so much! The video helps a lot
You are not allowed to use a calculator on the math section. When I took the test, they gave me a spiral bound booklet with like 4 pages. Be mindful of your time on the math portion, some of those questions are pretty wordy.
I hope this helps.
TeachQueenQ NO CALCULATORS WHAT now I’m hyperventilating

I'm glad you found this video to be helpful! Social studies was the section that I was the most nervous about. The test was mostly content based. I remember it had a lot of Texas history and the amendments. I specifically remember seeing questions that I have on my quizlets.

Thanks!
If you purchased the REA book it will cover the content that you need to know. It's more content based!
@@TeachQueenQ Thank you so much for your helpful tips! I took my exam and passed on my first attempt. You rock!!!
Omg! Congratulations!!! I'm so excited for you! 😁😁😁 I'm curious 👀 was the test hard or easy for you? And was it more content or scenario based?
HI there.. Love your info! Quick question please... Is the math hard? Are there a lot of equations to have to solve? it's my weakest subject... How many can you miss? I take my exam tuesday
am just hoping that the math protion wont be too terrible.
Hi Amy!
I didn't feel that it was painfully hard, but I also love math. Competency #1 of the math test has the most questions and that is where the majority of my missed questions came from. Most of the questions are about the application and not so much solving the problem.
- Competency 001 (Mathematics Instruction): The teacher understands how students
learn mathematical skills and use that knowledge to plan, organize and implement
instruction and assess learning.
I remember having to work out a couple questions but I didn't feel that they were extremely hard. Most of the test looks just like the questions in this study manual. I worked through these a couple times and some of the ones in the links that I put in the description bar.
www.tx.nesinc.com/content/docs/291PrepManual.pdf
So I looked at my scorecard and there were 40 questions on the math portion of the test.
@@TeachQueenQ you are so wonderful! Thank you for being so sweet and helpful
You're welcome! 😊 Good luck on your exam!
Man, yeah 240 has helped but hasn’t. I’ve failed social studies 7-12 3 times 70, 76, 76.3
Which book did you rent that helps with the questions
Nick Wing Hi, I chose the REA study book by Luis Rosado. There’s a link in the description bar if you’re interested in finding the book😊
@@TeachQueenQ thank you
What does that mean the exam people will not grade some questions?

Alicia Hall Hi! I took the exam on the computer. There are questions on the exam that they are being tested for future exams. Every version of the test is different so I can't give you the exact number. On the Pearson website where you get your scores it tells you.. www.tx.nesinc.com/PageView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/GENRB_ScoringFAQ.html

Was there a math section? How was it?
Has anyone taken the Praxis and PACT? Are the comparable?? Also, thank you tons! Preparing!

You're welcome 😊
How long would you study for? What did your studying schedule look like? I take mine this summer! I am so nervous!!!
I studied for 1 month. I am not a great test taker, so I wanted to make sure I knew as much as possible before I took the test.
(there are a few in the description bar)
Week 4 - *Look at the competencies you struggle the most with and study, study, study that information again. Then take another practice quiz to see if you're making progress
When I finally made an 80 or higher I knew I was ready.
TeachQueenQ this helped me so much! I needed some type of structure to get me started! Thank you a million times! I’ll adjust as I go!
You're welcome girl! 😊
Yes it's the correct one! I took science 4-8 and teach 6th grade Science
Im scheduled to take the core exam August 3rd, and i do not feel ready! I have failed the practice exams D: What book is it that tells you the key words to look out for?

I found the book!
Can you use a calculator for the math test?
B. Tate it really depends on which exam you are taking. For the EC-6 CORE EXAM you are not allowed to use a calculator. If you are talking a different exam they will provide an on screen calculator if it is allowed.
You can verify by choosing your exam on this website and it will be listed for you

Hi! Thanks for your info! I been using 240 tutoring to study, but I’ll be buying the book tomorrow to study for the SPED. Do you recommend I what I need to focus on?
Snook Mcc Hello! I haven't taken the SPED exam, so I'm not sure what you should focus on. I think the REA book is good especially for practice tests.
I'd say do practice tests until you're familiar with the information. I did that and passed.
Is it possible to not get 80 percent in each subject but still pass with a 240 or above?
There are questions that aren't scored and that number is different for everyone. If you have time, please go watch part 3 of this video series. I show my scorecard and proof of the information I shared.
TeachQueenQ Thank you, I will ! I guess I’m trying to figure out if you don’t get a 80 precent or above on each section is it automatically a fail or will your EPP not take you.
Oh I understand. So if you fail one subject of the exam it counts as Not passed for the entire exam. But you only have to retake the subject you failed. It's your EPPs decision if they will accept your scores.
I've heard some people say that their EPP or employer accepted them on a probationary period until they passed their exam. I hope this helps 😊
TeachQueenQ Thank you!
Pray for me, I plan on taking it in early February.
Don't stress! Study hard and I'll be praying for you 😊
Thank you! I wish you the best.
We are praying, so how are you doing?
Still havent started studying. I plan to start tomorrow and take the exam in exactly 3 weeks.

If you don't know how to access them, I show how to find them in part three of this series. th-cam.com/video/F3mwA86Qi9c/w-d-xo.html
