  • Today we're touring Copenhagen's BEST Food Market: Torvehallerne! In addition to some of the best coffee we've ever had, this market has so many unique foods from around the world, as well as foods local to Denmark. Once we snag all of our ingredients, we try our best to make our own Danish Smørrebrød 😅

Torve Hallerne is amazing but perhaps one of the the most expensive places to visit. Your variation of Open sandwich looks good. (slice the bread a bit thinner) 😃 And probably a good idea that you had the sandwich a home. You said something about bose. The rules about drinking is the same whatever you are driving or sailing 😉

When slicing your ryebread, do it abit thinner. Usually the ratio of bread and toppings should be 40/60 (bread/toppings) or even 30/70 😁

I have spent most of my time away from Denmark the past 30 years but still go back "home" 1-2 times yearly.
I have to admit that the coffee at The Coffee Collective in Torvehallerne is fantastic. Having grown up on rye bread and the typical Danish food, I consider it normal to eat bread with almost all kind of toppings. We all have our favorites. Many Danes swear to the traditional things like marinated herring, smoked herring, liver pate, new potatoes etc. Cheese on rye bread used to be a good way to get enough energy inside at breakfast to last until lunch.
Danes, who eat cheese, mostly do not buy pre sliced cheese. It's actually better economically to buy a block of cheese and use a cheese slicer. I guess Danes find that the most natural thing in the world until they travel abroad and find that it is very difficult to buy cheese abroad the way we buy it in Denmark.

Such a lovely video - it's so much fun seeing you explore the streets of Copenhagen as a Dane - and see you enjoy our food! A lot of Danes don't really think much about our traditionel foods, so it makes me so happy to see how much you're enjoying it :) !. Buuuuuuuut! It really makes me sad that you only visited Copenhagen in Denmark, and not some of the other lovely and different cities around the country (I feel like all youtubers forget that Denmark is so much more than just Copenhagen).
We have Odense - the home city of H.C. Andersen. A lovely city with fairytales as the main theme all other the city because of H.C. Andersen. Cozy small streets, beautiful gardens and lots of cute little coffee shops.
Aarhus - the centre of culture in Denmark. So much to see and do in form of museums, restaurants and harbour areas.
Skagen - the most northern city of Denmark, that is know for being the place, where to seas meet each other. Most of the houses is yellow with white windows, and there is a lot of great seafood restaurants and museums.
Middelfart - just such a beautiful place, and what I think personally is a must see primarily because of the view overlooking two of the most known bridges in Denmark, and overlooking the sea.
Hvide Sande, Vesterhavet and Thy Nationalpark - a really different area of Denmark, but also a must visit! We have so much coastline in Denmark, and Vesterhavet is probably the longest - try and google it, it's amazing.
And last but not least - our beautiful, unique and treasure islands.
I really hope that you will take some time on day to come and experience how much a small country like Denmark has to offer - and if that day comes, I would love to help you with suggestions or even to take you around :-)
Sending you all the best thoughts,
Amalie (who is madly in love with her country)

There are many classic combos for smørrebrød, but we all tend to make our own and then argue whether they're "correct" or not. But since rye bread is so heavy, I have to repeat what many others have said, the slices should be thin.

This is the best presentation of my beautiful Copenhagen I've seen yet. With my 2 grown sons living there I thought they could show you some great places but seems like you did your research great. I'm impressed! Also smart you came during the summer, as our winters are brutal cold 😬
Even though it's super expensive, the food and drink is top notch.
Huge thanks for taking me back to my lovely Copenhagen :)
    Best, James and Kim

Greetings from denmark! I am glade you enjoyed your stay in our capital city.. AND that you got the experience the best the danish weather have to offe...Ohhh wait it just started raining... MUAHAHHAHAHAHAHA! About Smørbrød. While Smør is danish for Butter it is also to spread something. So the most literal translation is actually both Butterbread AND spreadbread as you spread the ingredients out over the bread and also use butter to adhere it to the bread :P

When you do smørebrød there is a rule "If you can still se the rugbrød there is not enough toppings on" .... and use a knife and fork when eating

Hi, kids! Glad to see you are only about a month behind in your coverage of Copenhagen. Hope you had a great time there, and wherever you are now, too, for that matter.
Just wanted you to know that the ducks at "Paw Paw's Hobby Homestead" are threatening to boycott your channel because Eric lorded it over that duck confit sandwich just a little too long and enjoyed it a little too much. Lol! Glad to see that there is at least one great market in Copenhagen that might rival the Borough Market in Southwark, London (I love that place! Can't you tell?).
Best wishes to you and the Danes and - Skoal, brotha!
