    • @tilerman
      @tilerman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm guessing each of the stalls at this market pay silly rents to the market owners. And there is zero parking around the market so getting all the food and equipment to the market must be real hassle. Then there is VAT, taxes etc etc. When we are out and about we all tend to compare eating out prices to what we can make it for at home, im guilty of that! But having said all that, yes, the food in this market is expensive. I live and work all around London and always take a flask and my own grub even on my days off when I go walkabout.

But if you want cheaper options and still pretty good quality you should visit Brick Lane. There are lots of food courts and stalls with amazing food!

    when I was in the bagel shop in Brick Lane [it was the old Jewish quater but now is Bangladeshi] it was during a very busy lunchtime but the service was still very fast, I was asked if I wanted mustard, I replied just a little German please. The entire service counter went quiet and the lady carving the brisket shouted out 'what do'yer mean German, we only serve English 'ere ! It was all in good fun but just ask for a little becareful English mustard isn't for the fainthearted, it will clean out your sinuses for you !

    Beigel Bake was, is and has been for many years ...a pit stop for trashed nightclubbers on their hungry way home in the small hours of the morning....next time try their smoked salmon and cream cheese...I love the place. ...and His face...in Borough market....looking at that donut! Lol

    London is expensive. Our street food is ridiculously expensive. Do try Broadway market and netil market next time you are over. Both are in Hackney..East London. Lovely vibe ..less touristy but very hipster. Fab bakery under the arches called Yeast

    I first learned about Beigel Bake via Lucas Peterson on Dining on a Dime, a video series he did for Eater. I remember the cashier there being rather curt with him, although he wasn't particularly rude, IMO. Did he cut in line or something?

    Borough Market has some amazing food. The scotch eggs are not so good. Cold and overcooked when I went there. Better off going to harrods. Theirs were amazing and way cheaper. Heads up for any future travellers when all the crazy in the world returns to some normality!

    £7.00 for what looked like grated cheddar cheese toasted in two slices of bread, I know what that guy can do with his toasted cheese sandwich. Have been in London a few times, there is loads to do but you'll be hard pushed to find a more unfriendly bunch of people on the planet.

Although some of them were nice you really are paying for it. Still remember all the food you missed out on at the CP buffet.
