There’s no set age to complete your education, I’m 32 and in the middle of doing my undergraduate, spent most my years after college working and earning, then decided last year I want to go back to studies and the plan is fingers crossed to do my masters after this :) I have 3 years of undergraduate left and hopefully a year of masters! It’s not long at all, put your head and heart into it and time flies quickly :) age is just a number! Majority of my class mates are younger than me and it’s fine, we all get along great :)
You should never rush anything, always go at your own pace, when you’re ready and the time’s right it will work out!

Alright. I am a 41 year old woman. I did my nursing programme in Nigeria [not a degree programme as obtainable at the time]. Got married and presently have 5 children. The insecurity in Nigeria prompted me to take the necessary exams and migrate to the UK last year with my family. Now, I have enrolled to obtain a degree in nursing here in the UK even while working. I actually came across this because of the programme. I am happy I took the step. I am not regretting the age. And guess what, I'm not stopping at just degree.
Just to encourage anyone here who may be like me. It is never too late to start😊😊

@Chemist Chemist this gives me hope. After graduating from my degree I went straight into the work force (mechanical engineering). In my fourth year my research thesis was material science related at the nano-scale, I enjoyed that project so much and it stuck with me throughout my working life. Even though I excelled and got promoted at work, as well as got offered shares in the company I worked for, I was not satisfied. At 33 I decided to do something about it. I'm now 34 doing my masters in materials science, after which I plan to move on to a PHD. People always told me the cutoff age for PHD was 40 years, so seeing that you are 45 gives me hope.

I took a gap year and found out about Biochemistry and Chemistry course , applied and got accepted. First year of Uni my chemistry marks were not good but second till now I am doing very well. Doing both Biochemistry and Chemistry as major subjects allowed me to explore which one I enjoy the most and I must say Chemistry is the one for me. Now I am doing my last year in these courses. Amina, I congratulate you for completing your PhD in just three years and completing it at a very young age of 25. I have no intention of doing a PhD because it goes on for too many years and it is a lot of work and effort for nothing. I earned a BA in Classics ten years ago in my 30s in 2010 at the University of Ottawa in Canada and received my MA in Classical Studies just two years ago through Distance Learning at the Open University in the U.K. and I was considered a mature student because I earned my degrees later than the average age. I found the 2 years Master's degree difficult with all the TMAs, EMA, and dissertation which I had to write. My Master's degree in Classical Studies at the Open University was two years of hard work, but I completed it and I am happy.

so true when you mentioned about the competitiveness at the beginning, put me off with a lot of things. Where I grew up, which is Hong Kong, almost everyone around me from a young age are competitive, which originates from the child's parents. Families think being a doctor/lawyer will be the best career, I didn't know much about other career paths (kind of brainwashed). I am glad I am not in that education system anymore, and I am actually enjoying education.

Hi Amina, Thank you for taking the time to share this, it was very insightful! I agree with your statement about getting some experience before transitioning to a PhD straight out of university. I am pursuing a research career in academia in the US and there is no way that I could have appreciated the level of work that goes into conducting research without getting involved in various lab projects. It's a true test to gauge whether one is ready for the challenges they will face. Approaching these challenges with a growth mindset (i.e., "I will overcome, learn, and grow from this") is key to stay resilient. I look forward to checking out your other videos related to this topic!!

Alexandria Rhoden That’s absolutely correct about PhD/DPhil programs in the UK. I’m a native NYer who’s still searching for a above average university to matriculate at and submit my doctoral thesis proposal. I’m trying to jumpstart my doctoral program by getting this jump. I’ve 3 grad degrees now and probably do two other grad degrees at UBuffalo and East Carolina University. I’ve passed my proposal along to British, Nigerians and Americans who’ve obtained their doctorates from UK unis (is this correct abbreviation)and received “thumbs up.” Are you a graduate or doctoral student? And what course are you doing? From an inquiring future American doctoral student from across the “pond.” Lol

Amazing! Wish it could be like that in my country (Portugal). I'm a chemist, in the first year of PhD and I'm 25 lol. In Portugal a bachelor takes 3 years, a master's takes 2 years and a PhD takes 4 years (at least in science). In the end, even if you're lucky enough to do it all followed you finish it with 27 y.o., however, that is unusual since the PhD scholarship most of the times takes a year to get (you have to apply with the master's degree diploma and you finish it after the scholarship application time). Best wishes :)

I’m starting uni next month and I’m doing computer science and going into a software engineering job hopefully but if I want to do a masters, I would probably do it in machine learning engineering or Artificial intelligence engineering or data science as they have even higher salaries.
Also I think in this day and age going to uni and not fully knowing where the degree you have chosen is going to lead you, is problematic. Every one has a degree these days so just make sure you know the jobs you want to go in to had a high growth rate and that their are plenty of positions available otherwise life is going to be tuff

I truly dont know why i had that big smile all along that video..You're just amazing girl and thanks god I discovered this outstanding channel...Congrats for ur degree. And hell yes PhD is seen differently in different countries even the age that students are able to enroll in a PhD program varies. For instance here in Algeria, it is impossible that you get that degree at your age...It's for the simple reason that you cannot do a phD without having a masters degree and this takes 2 years and if your lucky and have never repeated a year you will be 24 almost 25 when you graduate and if you're even luckier and started school at the age 5 rather than 6 which is my case you'll graduate at the age of 23 after that u will sit for a contest and only if you pass it you'll become a doctorate student...well I was lucky to pass the contest just after I graduated which means that I became a PhD student at the age of 23 thing which is rare to impossible here in Algeria because even if you graduate at 23 and sit for that contest it doesn't necessarily mean that you will succeed I mean there are people at the age of 45 who are sitting for the contest each year. So basically now I'm 24 and i'm kindav stuck with my thesis still I know I can do it haha i wish i will read this comment 2 years later and modify it nd it would read like that: yoo guys i got my degree i did it ...and yes here we're funded just for 3 years this is how the LMD system works... one thing before i leave to everyone who's reading this may you keep rising
