I just heard this song recently after my husband got demoted at work. He was doing great in his new role until his superiors literally told him that he needed to start lying to customers and selling them things that they didn't need so the company could meet their sales quotas. My husband immediately told his superiors that while he was more than willing to work on selling more, he wouldn't do it by deceiving people. He was demoted shortly after that. When one of his coworkers asked him why he did it, he said "I have to answer to a much higher authority than (manager) and (assistant manager)". While the extra money from the promotion was nice, I'm so proud of my husband for standing up for his values. Thank you Lord for giving him an honest and caring heart.
Absolutely wild that this was released 33 years ago and is still so relevant to this day. 90s country will never be surpassed, and you cannot change my mind.
My granddaddy gave me this same speech. A veteran, child of the Great Depression, and retired Baptist minister, he had seen it all. There ain't many good, honest men like him left. If more kids had their dads and grandads sitting with them on the porch and teaching them these life lessons, the world would be a better place.
That's exactly what I want to do when I have kids. Work in the city for ~10 years as a programmer then move out into rural Appalachia where I can farm and raise em' with the Bible ;). The rural South and Midwest is the only place left you'll find good, honest men in high quantity.
the32712 There are a few good men in northern pennsylvania. Sometimes it just takes time to find them. My grandfather god rest his soul was one even if he did have a temper.
I grew up with a step dad that always told me real men fight for what's right. The first time he told me that was September 10, 2001. The next day (and any America would know what happened on September 11, 2001) made me want to join the US Marine Corps so I can stand up and fight for this great country of ours.
I always have which has caused me so much trouble in the world but I can go to bed in peace at night with no regrets and one day to my Father in Heaven.
I am 17 and really enjoy this song. I find that its very true and it especially applies to what's going on in our schools nowadays. I wish more people my age listened to this advice 🇨🇦
My dad stood for this too, and fought in Vietnam. I went in the army. I may be a woman but this country is everything this song says and more. My family always was, too, must like this song. Thanks, Greenwood, Tippon, Jackson. I went to defend my country for your words and my own dads. God bless the USA.
I never had a father, or much family at all. It's up to me to build a family name worthy of upholding, but it's very difficult starting with nothing. My mother played this song for me when I was young, and I hold this image of a good father nobly teaching a grateful son integrity as the most sacred and highest ideal. Thank you. And Father, the glory be unto thee.
Same shoes as you. It’s hard but growing up like that makes the best parents to your kids knowing what you missed. Atleast that’s what I’m shooting for.
I was 17 years old when I first heard this song. My dad and I had our differences but he taught me a lot about responsibility. He passed away from cancer almost 10 years ago. Hearing this song brought back a lot of memories about all of the things that he taught me in life. I can still feel his presence in my life today. I love you dad. I really miss you
Ready for revolutionary war mark 2. There's going to be a point where America says enough. Most Americans (I don't consider they who shall not be named Americans) are afraid to stand up, and in my opinion it's time we stand up and say enough is enough and take back our government, and our home. First through lawful protest and contacting government officials but unfortunately a LOT of people don't even know we can contact gov officials and speak our minds and if they don't listen, then we protest. Its to much work to contact them, go to council meetings etc. There will be a straw that breaks the cammels back, and that straw is getting mighty heavy. Americans are the majority but unfortunately we're the silent majority.
I got to meet this ole cowboy when I was working at a pizza joint in Lebanon, Tennessee in the late 1990s.... Couldn't ask for A better person... Thank you Aaron...
We all need to stand together! For the freedom that we all love and our God given rights 🙏 ♥️ it's a great song 🎵 for the time we are living in, right now !
Yes we do need this more so now than is right. I was just outside telling a friend for what we feel and know! Coming back on this song was going through my head, THANK YOU GOD FOR WHAT YOU'VE GIVEN ME ✝️ JESUS LOVES ME
This song really has a good lesson in it. Stand up for your own moral beliefs or anyone will easily mislead you into believing something else that is wrong.

I listen this on repeat! I was raised like this. In 1962 when I was born my Daddy was 41 years old. He'd served in WW2 in Germany and was a hard working Kentucky man. I was the youngest of 9 and the baby. You bet we were taught right from wrong. He never had to raise his voice, he had a PRESENCE about him. You just knew better. Upholding the family name was a given, as well as protecting each other. 4 big brother (one 15 years older) No one who found out I was a North, bothered me..ever. They knew my brothers would throw their ass back at them as they walked away.
I was always told by my mother that there is never a right time to do the wrong thing, nor is there ever a wrong time to do the right thing.....that if I practiced this throughout life...God would bless me, and that I never have to apologize for my actions. That's the way I was raised! And tried very hard to raise my 3 boys but letting them go, someday they will understand my actions.
I hear that! Can’t even sing it out loud without my voice cracking! I loved this song when I was a kid and I love it even more today! Trying to drill this message into my 3 teenage kids’ minds is tough but necessary.
...to my beloved family who taught this lesson to me way before I ever understood it. Until we meet again, I love you more than words could ever explain.
This song brings so many good memories. When my dad was overseas in 90 they would play this a lot on CMT .. it gave me comfort. “Uphold your family name” so dang important!
I'm 14 and listen to this song daily, my dad told me my grandpa knew Aaron and he had a picture of them both together at a bar, this song has thought me a lot for a 14 year old in 2024, thank you to everyone who listens to this, I'll prey for all of you, God bless you all.
Good to know our younger people are listening to this music and message. You're on the right path. Keep strong. Thank you for sharing your story. God Bless.
AMEN! Our grand parents understood this... Taught this.. wish we all would have listened more & wish the new generations understood this... GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
Albus White Lies, Lies, and lies. Open the bible if you want truth pal. Macro evolution is scientifically impossible. Natural selection cannot extend outside the DNA limit, in other words, two creatures of the same species cannot mate and produce a new species, only new breeds. Another fact to consider is that genetic mutations are harmful most of the time as well as extremely rare. Biological information comprises a complex, non-repeating sequence which is highly specified relative to the functional or communication requirements that they perform. Such similarity explains, in part, Richard Dawkins’ observation that, “The machine code of the genes is uncannily computer-like.” What are we to make of this similarity between informational software-the undisputed product of conscious intelligence-and the informational sequences found in DNA and other important biomolecules? If our genes and cells arose randomly through competition for supremacy, then how can we explain so many wonderful processes where cells are programmed to sacrifice themselves for the good of the whole, especially during development? I have done chemical synthesis on parts of the DNA molecule. The nucleotides and nucleosides, or sub-units, have bases that act like 'letters' carrying genetic information. I worked many long months connecting just three of these bases, but everyone is told that this complex molecule needed for life, needing millions of bases in the proper order, just 'happened'. I found that to connect these DNA 'letters' together correctly, a protective group must be attached on parts of the molecule to prevent wrong connections. A catalyst is also needed as a condensing agent, and the chemical reaction must take place in a completely water-free environment. If the environment is left open even momentarily, the humidity in the air would prevent the reaction. So I thought, I am connecting only three bases together. How could DNA randomly form out in an ocean or pond? What about all the proteins, sugars, and lipids also needed for life? The DNA in a 'simple' bacterium carries so many 'letters' in sequence that, if you typed it out, it would fill about 2,000 ordinary pages. One human cell would take about a million pages. I did not read any specific creation literature.. Evolution is just unscientific. It violates the laws of chemistry including the Second Law of Thermodynamics, the laws of probability, and information theory. Anti-creationists commonly charge creationists with misusing the Second Law of Thermodynamics, saying that an 'open system' solves the problem. If you put a drop of dye in a body of water, it is an open system, but the molecules are going to diffuse out, not collect together. Systems tend to move into states of greater disorganization. The complex DNA molecules I was working with have a tendency to break down into less complex forms. Very hard, directed work is required to get even the simple parts to form in a particular order. Random processes just won't do it. Chemical synthesis is a very exact science. In fact, a number of scientists are now acknowledging this and admitting that there must be an undiscovered scientific law that caused simple molecules to organize themselves into life. "This scientific law" is know as a creative agent. For their to be a creation and design, there must be a creator and designer. This creative agent is God. In physics, the concept of cosmic fine tuning gives further support for design. The concept of cosmic fine tuning relates to a unique property of our universe whereby the physical constants and laws are observed to be balanced for permitting the emergence of complex life. The degree to which the constants of physics must match precise criteria is such that a number of agnostic scientists have concluded that, indeed, there is some sort of transcendent purpose behind the cosmic arena. British astrophysicist Fred Hoyle writes, “A common sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a super intellect has monkeyed with physics, as well as with chemistry and biology, and that there are no blind forces worth speaking about in nature. The numbers one calculates from the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond question.” One example of fine tuning is the rate at which the universe expands. This value must be delicately balanced to a precision of one part in 10 to the 55th power. If the universe expanded too quickly, matter would expand too quickly for the formation of stars, planets and galaxies. If the universe expanded too slowly, the universe would quickly collapse before the formation of stars. Besides that, the ratio of the electromagnetic force to gravity must be finely balanced to a degree of one part in 10 to the 40th power. If this value were to be increased slightly, all stars would be at least 40% more massive than our sun. This would mean that stellar burning would be too brief and too uneven to support complex life. If this value were to be decreased slightly, all stars would be at least 20% less massive than the sun. This would render them incapable of producing heavy elements necessary to sustain life. With modern discoveries in the field of cosmology, the concept of a definitive beginning of the cosmos has been demonstrated almost beyond question. The Kalam argument states that 1. Everything which begins to exist has a cause apart from itself. (except God who is infinite, eternal, self existent and is outside our universe) 2. The universe began to exist. 3. Therefore, the universe has a cause apart from itself. It thus appears from the data that an uncaused first cause exists outside the four dimensions of space and time, which possesses eternal, personal and intelligent qualities in order to possess the capability of intentionally bringing space, matter-and indeed even time itself-into being. So, to ask what was before God or creation is illogical, as there was no before God. He created time and transcends the physical universe. This is evidenced by what one can infer just from the fact of creation alone: • He must be supernatural in nature (as He created time and space). • He must be powerful (incredibly). • He must be eternal (self-existent, because there is no infinite regress of causes). • He must be omnipresent (he created space and is not limited by it). • He must be timeless and changeless (He created time). • He must be immaterial because He transcends space/physical. • He must be personal (the impersonal can’t create personality). • He must be necessary as everything else depends on Him. • He must be infinite and singular as you cannot have two infinites. • He must be diverse yet have unity as unity and diversity exist in nature. • He must be intelligent (supremely). Only a cognitive being can produce cognitive beings. • He must be purposeful as He deliberately created everything. • He must be moral (no moral law can be had without a giver). • He must be caring (or no moral laws would have been given). The Judeo-Christian God perfectly fits this profile. The universe we live in is only part of a multiverse. Science has all but proven there are other dimensions, something the Bible has always taught. THERE IS A GOD OF ALL GODS, A LORD OF ALL LORDS, A KING OF ALL KINGS, who created TIME, SPACE, ENERGY, MATTER, LIFE AND SPIRIT. The real God is a being of immense power and intelligence that sits outside His creation and runs it. He is not a part of it, He is OUTSIDE OF TIME AND SPACE, a place we call “eternity”, a place where there is an ABSENCE OF TIME, something we cannot fathom!!
Albus White I debunked evolution in my comment, two species can mate and produce new breeds but not new species. I'm not giving a chance because I've already seen plenty of it, and it's not true. I'm not immortal, our souls are but our physical body is not. It is new age bullshit, associating yourself with godlike qualities and such.
I Love This song, everytime I hear it, I think of God and Christ, their Family, and everything they stand for is right. As far as I'm concerned, every word in there is God speaking to us. We've got to stand for something or we'll fall for satan's lies
As a matter of fact my favorite song happens to be You've got to stand for something" When I get pulled in a direction I don't want to go in I just go to TH-cam tape on that song and I got all the strength and courage I need to continue to follow Jesus and what HE stands for. Take Care and have a Blessed Day
My grandpa wrote this song. His name is Buddy Brock. I love him very much. I love you, papaw, thank you for being such a blessing for so many people!! 🥰
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. I hope your grandpa knows how many people this song has touched. Tell him thanks from me! It truly is timeless!
My, Father has been dead for 23 years. I am still scared of him today. My Father had great presents. When he walked in a room. People took notice! He never meet a man he didn't like. But if you stepped on his toes. He wouldn't let you do it again! He would always catch the big one on the lake. Or kill the biggest Buck in the woods. I have never measured up to his shadow to this Day. R.I.P. Dad! Your birthday is coming up soon. You would be in your 80's now. But God! Decided to take you home to be with him. Tomorrow I will be as old as you were when you passed. Go rest High on that Mountain. Love your son! SHAWN
@Darnell Robinson-Johnson My late 94 year old neighbor told my dad at my Papa's funeral, "our loss is heaven's gain." I meant to tell her family the same at her funeral where I was a pall bearer.
Uyen Nguyen Given that I've lived in three college towns, I've seen plenty of students and others of all ages standing up for what they believe in. Indeed, I've participated in a number of causes myself, and have since I was a kid. Doing what you think is right is not a generational or occupational exclusive. My daughter's best friend is the son of a pair of professors, friends of mine as well, who are currently protesting working conditions at the university. The stakes, as I understand, are not inconsequential. Also, do stop using that "safe space" phrase. It's idiotic, regardless of who's saying it. 😧 Original thoughts, please.
My Father lives this live, and my Grandfather lived it, both of them. I laid my maternal Grandfather to rest when I was still a child, and Tuesday, I lay my paternal Grandfather to rest. All three have taught me to stand on my own two feet, to stand for what I believe, and to fight for what is right. We must stand up for what we believe in, or our nation will fall. RIP Papa.
Your word is your bond Having Integrity and honoring /pride in ones family name is all that is important in life. It's all we really have. Just because everyone else is doing it... doesn't mean it's the right thing to do or say. Stand up for your convictions! I stand alone always... I can't change anyone and the only person I can control is me. If others come stand behind me or beside me great.... I just always know where I'll be standing.. I'll be standing for what's right.
My dad is dead now shot and killed in his own house by a thug he used to sing this to me as a kid . means so much more to me now . Rip dad you are missed fly high and ill see you on that day.
Thank you for sharing this ,, I'm so sorry ya father passed that way ,, America needs to stand against violence like that , may ya dad's journey be a good one ....
So true! Never forget these words ! You are American! Forged in the fire and freedom paid for in blood, sweat, and tears. God Bless Everyone in America. Love , Respect, and Honour from a US Army Gulf War Veteran!
I get a big lump in hearing this. Thank you Dad and Mom for teaching the values of what is important in life. God Bless you as I know he is keeping you safe in Heaven. Rip.
This is a great song and has a lot of meaning to it listen to the song a whole lot through the years it will always be one of my favorite songs has so much meaning something we all should live by thank you
Close... But not the best lol... From the best Era of music especially country indeed, but not the greatest song ever made.... Down Home by Alabama is a better song
Like my uncle's told me when I was younger son it don't matter if you are in the right or wrong stand up for yourself and what you believe in! Plus it's up to my cousin's and me keep the last name going!
Si vis pacem, para bellum Never alone when you stand for what is right! God, our Father in heaven, commands us to do this and as such always has our six when we do.
Faith, Family, Freedom!!!🐍🇺🇸 WHAT A GREAT PATRIOTIC TUNE!! Funny how I was exposed to it, while being played at a patriotic rally in London on 7-27-24, I was viewing live on youtube!! This is truly one of the greatest patriotic songs I have ever heard AND. IS OH SO FITTING for the time in which we are living! I think there is at least one other Aaron Tippin song I recall liking so am now going to go track it down. Cheers!!
I shared this song with somebody who really needed to hear it in a time when he had to stand up for what was right, but it was so hard. He said he drove for miles relistening to it over and over, and this song gave him the strength to move forward in strength, understanding why he actually had no choice. He HAD to take that stand even if it meant he has to betray his word. This just happened, so the outcome is yet to be seen. Sometimes being too responsible in one part of your life can stop you from being responsible in another; especially when you find yourself enabling a tyrant while believing you're helping a person change. Then, finding out you're doing things to help, but being used because the person is secretly doing the same bad things to others and wants to keep doing it. He's been lied to so the person gets his help. I think he was afraid of failing, but it's the person he tried to help that is failing, not him. It's time to speak up now that he sees an enemy of the people enjoys being that enemy.
I miss the days when songs had meaning, and passed along this kind of folksy wisdom. Feels like all the songs to day are about partying and degeneracy, feels like the kids listening to then are getting the wrong message.
Well I'm 12 and I don't know why but almost every one in my class listens to rap and they always talk about gangs and drugs this is the type of music I listen to and I end up being the lonely quiet kid every year I wish I was alive during those days but I refuse to listen to them every time they argue about music
Amen. I grew up around both good and bad music influences and attitudes. Luckily, I can see good for good with the wisdom of people and music like this. There's more good in people than bad, I think. The good might not be as loud as the bad, but it is greater in number and in truth. We are all waking up to the error of our ways and humbly seeking the wisdom of the past to guide us to light. God bless everyone.
This was my daddy's song we played this the day of his funeral and it still rings true too this day and its coming on 2yrs sense i lost my daddy but this song was who my daddy was 110%

Yep, the good old news....ya know imagine a world where no music was playing....think of a church whith nobody singing,...or walked in a garden where nothing was growing.....well that's some lyrics from a song by lory Morgan called ...( a picture of me with out you) ...we dont think about that very often if ever, well I started these last couple of yrs, ya see my dads getting older and he always stood up for what he thought was right, he raised me in the sticks deer hunting, fishing and campfires on the weekends when we went camping at big bear campground. I think about it because hes had such an impact on my life raising me, and we all appreciate life a little more when our folks get old and we go off and raise a family of our own. I love you Aaron Tipon for this song it means so very much to my family, especially me, my father is a great man.
How does the news brainwash? You'd rather they didn't report what's happening? Although the followers of Fox are brainwashed by trump. I'll give you that.
Nice reaction. This has been one of my top 5 favorites of Arron Tippin since it was released. Songs like this one that have a timeless message of doing the right thing for the right reason is always timeless and relative. These positive songs are what we need more of right now then ever before.

No shit. Ya know my family has always spoke they're mind and we've always stuck up for his blood. That's how we were raised. And because of that I do not hold any claws about what I trullybelieve or speaking my mind. You should never compromise what's right. I love my daddy for raising me that way.
In the last 10 years since i first heard this song in high school, it's motivated me to get into fights with those just a little tougher than I could handle. Ask out girls I knew were just a little out of my league. To sign up, go overseas time after time to fight crazies in a foreign land. To stand up to those with just a little too much authority. It's gotten me rejected more times than I can count, written up, beat up, blown up, hell even buried alive. But in the end it gave me just that little bit of courage I needed to make it through to the other side and be still standing today. In the end it helped make me from the kid I was to the man I am today. I still live by the words of this song everyday-- "Whatever you do today you'll have to sleep tonight". So thank you Mr. Tippin, for this song.

What do you mean by "North?"

This song tears me up everytime. Such a good song
I believe because we understand the importance of the message
I hear that! Can’t even sing it out loud without my voice cracking! I loved this song when I was a kid and I love it even more today! Trying to drill this message into my 3 teenage kids’ minds is tough but necessary.
...to my beloved family who taught this lesson to me way before I ever understood it. Until we meet again, I love you more than words could ever explain.

The numbers one calculates from the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond question.”
One example of fine tuning is the rate at which the universe expands.
The Kalam argument states that
1. Everything which begins to exist has a cause apart from itself. (except God who is infinite, eternal, self existent and is outside our universe)
This is evidenced by what one can infer just from the fact of creation alone:
• He must be supernatural in nature (as He created time and space).
Albus White That Page is new age, false religion bs. We definitely didn't evolve.

Hello Dana..
Me, too! When country was still country.
This song reminds of my Dad. Always standing up for what he believes in. Loyal.
SHAWN

I absolutely love this song. I love the message of teaching your kids good morals. And standing up for what's right.
Lovely comment Hello Shanna how are you doing 👋👋
My Father lives this live, and my Grandfather lived it, both of them. I laid my maternal Grandfather to rest when I was still a child, and Tuesday, I lay my paternal Grandfather to rest. All three have taught me to stand on my own two feet, to stand for what I believe, and to fight for what is right. We must stand up for what we believe in, or our nation will fall. RIP Papa.
Your word is your bond
Having Integrity and honoring /pride in ones family name is all that is important in life. It's all we really have.
Just because everyone else is doing it... doesn't mean it's the right thing to do or say. Stand up for your convictions! I stand alone always...
Your extremely absolutely 💯 agree

GREAT SINGER AN A SONG THAT IS SO MUCH LIKE MY DAD GOD BLESS HIM LOVE YOU DAD
I miss the days when songs had meaning, and passed along this kind of folksy wisdom. Feels like all the songs to day are about partying and degeneracy, feels like the kids listening to then are getting the wrong message.
Well I'm 12 and I don't know why but almost every one in my class listens to rap and they always talk about gangs and drugs this is the type of music I listen to and I end up being the lonely quiet kid every year I wish I was alive during those days but I refuse to listen to them every time they argue about music
Yeah all the songs now have no meaning just about partying! Crazy right? I rather listen to this and Christian music
I was born in 04 and grew up listening to this. Today I'm grateful for it.

Yes sir❤ still jamming out in 2024. We saw you at huge fest and put my daughter on my shoulders. He waved so much to her 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you for such amazing show. It was a show with Sammy Kershaw Aaron tippin and joe diffy... One best ones i been to yet.
Yo, Aaron Tippin was a beast in his songs. I think we all could have used these words growing up, the kids now especially.

Just posted on my Facebook
Finally got to meet Aaron on August 24th. We spoke and I Siad his song got me through my dad dying 3 years ago. Aaron smiles and then his jaw drops. Aaron said you got it brother you understand, I wrote that for my dad. Took our selfie then parted ways. Very down to earth guy that listens and cares for his fans.
This song is more truer than ever now.

I played this today as a SALUTE to Blue Thunder,Creighton Waters the lead prosecutor that convicted Alex Murdaugh of murdering his wife and son in 2021. His great works have restored justice in the South!
