Kyuho's mother's cooking always look amazing. My family doesn't really celebrate chuseok in the traditional way. We just buy jeon and ddeok and call it a day 🤣 So it's always impressive how much work goes into preparing for the day. I love how you addressed the gender conflict. This channel is both comforting and informational, which I love 🥰
Sarah I hope your family at home in NS have stayed safe during the hurricane 😢 I have been thinking about them and hoping they are alright. Happy belated birthday as well!
Happy Birthday Sarah, wishing you happiness for the day and the years ahead. I think Kyuho's right it would be sad to lose the Korean holiday traditions altogether, but making compromises to reduce stress and enjoy the holiday seems the best idea for all concerned.
I think the changes sound good, particularly if it takes the load off the female members of the family. Our family is massive. About 6 years ago we changed Christmas Day lunch, so that we all brought dishes to share. The host for that year coordinates everyone, so we have a good balance of food and drinks. We also do a Kris Kringle for all of the adults, with a $50 AUD limit, and gifts only for the kids. Where Christmas used to be so incredibly stressful, particularly for me, as the mum! Now everyone really enjoys getting together and catching up with everyone else. It’s truly become a family celebration! We do something similar for Easter too. 🥰
Happy belated birthday, Sarah! I love how you both went to your favorite restaurant where you went when you were dating. Yes, yes! I’m that person who turns her dish, to appreciate the look, but to get that perfect Insta picture too. 😂. I absolutely LOVE Chuseok with Kyuho’s family, and have appreciated your family videos since I first found your channel many years ago. The love that Kyuho’s mom puts into each traditional dish is apparent in the table setting. My mouth waters every single time. Thank you for explaining Chuseok, as well as Kyuho’s current (Chuseok) family dynamic to us, as I do miss seeing you all with grandpa, and taking your family hike to pay respect to the family graveside. Praying that the traditions continue in your family with the niece and nephew, and that they never go away. Being of Japanese descent, we have Oshogatsu/Osechi that’s a huge part of our lives each year. Like Kyuho’s mama, the cooking of each traditional dish, typically lies on the moms. Thankfully, our one and only son, who is about to turn 26, has embraced this tradition, and has promised to carry it on, once I’m too old to do so. Take care! See you both next week! ❤
Kyuho’s mom’s holiday food is unreal-there are just no words! 🥲 Kyuho’s niece and nephew actually don’t do any ancestral ceremonies, because their family is Christian-many (if not most) Christians in Korea don’t do it. Oshogatsu is such a big one in Japan! I’d love to be there at least once and see what it’s like, as I’ve only ever been to Japan between May and August :)
Chinese shares the holiday and do similar things, but different :) My parents are gone which has influenced keeping the tradition alive as this celebration is about family. So, when we celebrate the holiday we celebrate them, and that's important. Now, as far as food preparation goes, we do a lot more take out than make at home. Keeps things more manageable and relaxing. 😁
Hmmmm…this Korean holiday reminds me of our Thanksgiving and Christmas. It takes me at least 3 days to prepare the Thanksgiving meal for my family, about 15 people. It’s getting pretty brutal as I get older. I prepare at least 20 to 25 different dishes in heaping quantities. It usually costs about $800+ US. Then everyone swoops in, eats and has fun, says thanks, packs up a ton of food to take home, and leaves me with the mess and dishes. And, yes, I’m starting to get a little disgruntled. Just because you’re the mom, it doesn’t mean you’re slave labor. I might come up with my own statement about here’s the meager fare I’m going to cook…now what does everyone else want to bring? Or better yet, ok, who’s going to do this next year because I quit! 😂🤣 Christmas is better because I started catering the meal and only cooking a few of our traditional favorites. I am always too exhausted and in pain from standing on a tile floor to enjoy anything.
Holy MOLY, that’s ridiculous 😧 My family prepares the food on the same day and eats a few hours later 😅 Then again, there’s usually just 4-8 of us at most, and if we invite others over, it’s potluck style. You should switch to potluck style if you’re having so many people over-it’s only fair 😎 Plus it’ll be WAY easier on you!
Are you in the US? I think all the families I know in the US do it differently. The host usually cooks the ham or turkey, and all the other family members bring the side dishes. Also, if anyone is spending $800 for 15 people, that is overspending.
@@jellybellyfun3288 I prepare enough food to feed an army because my crew wants leftovers for the next few days. They actually bring ziplock containers to pack up what they want. Yes, they’re spoiled beyond belief and it was fine when I was younger but now it’s getting old and so am I. 🤪 And, yes, it’s $800+ for everything I fix. The last few years I’ve kept the receipts because I was curious about it. I start buying all canned goods in September. I get two grocery carts filled to capacity and almost overflowing ( that includes all the fresh stuff, meats, etc.) a few days before the meal. I took over doing Thanksgiving when I was 25 from my mom and I mistakenly thought my kids would do the same for me. Nope. Not happening. My youngest daughter does come to help a couple of days before so that’s helpful. 😁👍🏼👍🏼 My mom had wonderful traditional Holidays when I was growing up and I wanted to keep the traditions alive. Unfortunately, I’m 64 now and have autoimmune diseases and the traditions are starting to kick my behind. I hate to see them go but that’s probably what’s going to happen in the near future. 😭 Oh, and yes, I’m in the US in the South where we go overboard.
Happy birthday! Rituals and tradition are the glue that hold societies and cultures together and preserves them for thousands of years. Although stressful, celebrating these traditions is really an act of love and strengthens family bonds. It's hard work and sacrifice but well worth it. Change is not always a good thing so changing these rituals should be done very carefully.
Thank you~! It’s hard to strengthen family bonds when the holidays often do the exact opposite 😅 Lots of work/labor = families getting stressed and fighting more (divorce rates spike in Korea after the holidays) 😅 An ‘act of love’ would not be expecting hard labor every year, and to actually care about the health and well-being of fellow family members, while being able to actually relax and spend quality time together ☺️ In this way, change is a good thing-it definitely has been for our family.
@@2hearts1seoul I understand and respect that. Is the work of preparing the food, etc. any less now than it was for the generations preceding us for thousands of years? Why didn't they object in their times? I don't know. Sometimes our generation is criticized for wanting too much change and choosing the easy ways of doing things. I can see both sides of this.
It depends on the family, but in many cases it’s still extremely burdensome and exhausting-particularly for women. Korea even has a term ‘holiday syndrome’ koreabizwire.com/holiday-syndrome-why-koreans-need-time-off-after-a-holiday/111480 Since Korea has an age hierarchy, even if younger generations do protest and want to downsize, older generations are resistant (likely because they don’t bear the brunt of the physical labor 😅), so it’s hard to change it. This is the reason for the ‘generational conflict’ we talked about in the video. But covid ‘helped’ to speed up this downsizing.
@@2hearts1seoul I understand. In the past was it always the women who did the work? If so did the elder women protest when they were young? Did the men ever help with the work? With modern technologies can't much of the work be reduced? It would be great if the work could be less burdensome. It's such a beautiful tradition.
Always-even now in the majority of cases 😅 Due to age/social hierarchy, it’s not something that would have been acceptable to complain about or even bring up. The food traditionally eaten during Korean holidays are very labor intensive and time consuming. There are no machines that can make dumpling filling and wrap them at home, or one that can make and flip hundreds of jeon in frying pans. It’s not like putting a turkey in the oven for Xmas and just leaving it for several hours and chilling-you’re always on the go making several different things at once for Korean holidays.
I think the food prep that goes into these family holidays is not particular or unique to Korea. Several other countries in in Asia have similar outside of lunar new year. Vietnamese food for example can also be very labor intensive. Thanks for sharing your holidays with us as always. Sarah I hope your family rode out the storm well and is safe 🙏
And as Americans we have Thanksgiving. With it mostly being the mothers cooking up a feast and the guys watching sports. As the mother and getting older, these holidays are so stressful and tiresome. I just want to go out to eat and that's it.
As a Canadian I find myself watching this new episode while worrying about your parents on the east cost Sarah especially after they were in the last few episodes ... I sure hope that the storm was not too hard on them 🙏🇨🇦
Our families got rid of the Chuseok gathering a few years ago, but each family would take care of the family graves around Chuseok holidays. Although, I still know less than half of my relatives I get to see during the holidays, it gives me such a special and good feeling of bonding as the same clan that has continued for centuries. Therefore, it is bit sad that the whole culture is disappearing, but I think it is a very natural consequence of the modern society and I am also quite glad that I won't need to see some of those good old patriarchy traditions anymore.
Happy Birthday Sarah!! Hopefully Chuseok can be celebrated as simplified but still maintain the meaning of the holiday and family gathering so it is not burdensome.
Chuseok reminds me of a lot of Thanksgiving in the U.S. Through my lifetime the tradition has changed a bunch for my family. We used to make SO much food for Thanksgiving and would travel around for family and now it's just my immediate family that gets together and as a result we make a lot less food (and have made it healthier too haha). Even then, I have a sibling that doesn't meet up on Thanksgiving anymore because their job makes them choose between taking time off for Christmas or Thanksgiving. We used to have very traditional types of foods that we had to make for the holiday but now we don't make some of them anymore and have changed a lot of the recipes too. Very interesting to compare holiday sentiments between countries. It was also interesting to hear that Korea had a cultural governing body of sorts. As always, great to see Kyuho's family and Happy Birthday Sarah!!
Its amazing how much time was spent explaining the holiday and yet you both only did tiny sips of your tea making little progress in the amount ingested!!!😉
We were in Korea last year visiting my in laws over chuseok and we actually went to my husband’s grandparents house like 2 days before chuseok and then left the day before. The family members visiting have started to spread out I’ve noticed. As an American I like when everyone gathers though so I can meet and see all my husbands’ different family members. 😁 But this year we just video called his family and that was it 😅
Yes, family members meeting up has definitely started to spread out and people tend to meet with smaller groups of their immediate family members. Video calling is definitely the more modern way to do it, though! 😅
Happiest of birthdays Sarah! Wishing you all the best. I was thinking of your family in NS as the storm passed that way. I hope they doing good. Will be waiting for your next Vlog on Sunday. Thanks for sharing your Holiday gathering with us!
Just the pick me up my soul needed❤, work has been rough all week and then I had to work this weekend too Edited to add a super happy birthday to Sarah and that your niece and nephew have gotten so big! Its crazy!
I again enjoyed your weekly vlog. Maybe a little bid late but a very Happy Birthday Sarah. 🥳. It's a pitty we can't taste the cake you had but it looked yummy. I hope your family didn't suffer to much from the storm. When I saw it on the news this week I remembered the beautiful trip you made in Nova Scotia. 🥰🤗
happy birthday Sarah! hope you had a wonderful celebration! best wishes to the both of you and more great vids amd content! stay safe and autumn greetings from California!😊
Kind of sad that people are getting away from doing the Chuseok holiday, but I understand the reasons. I hope it will continue in perhaps a less stressful way. I just adore Kyuho's mom. Not only is she an amazing baker (I think you know I follow her on Instagram) but OMG... the spread she puts out!!!!! By the way, I got your skincare box and can't wait to try it. Just before it arrived I used a moisturizer and had a reaction, so I'm waiting for my skin to calm down before I start using your skincare box. And I'm teaching English to two Koreans (a mother and son). The mother wanted recommendations for things to watch that would help her improve her English speaking skills. I recommended your channel. I think she will love this video in particular.
They’re still celebrating it, but just increasingly in a more downsized, relaxed way-even traveling together in some cases 😊 Ohhh! I can’t wait for you to try the skincare box items 😍 But do take your time-been there with products that made my skin react 😩 Ohhh! That’s so nice of you to recommend our channel to your student-thank you 🥺❤️
A society that looses its traditions looses itself. It is a sad and tears apart the structure . In my family Christmas is a big big thing.( I live in Seoul but was born in Belgium) Every year we return home for that holiday and as the mother, grandmother of the family I organise a feast for the whole family ( up to 28 people). The day before part of the family comes over and rearrange the furniture in the house to make place. Over the last years, as I get older , they start to bring their own dishes to complete the feast. We have some real soup masters and bakers in our family so 🤗 On the evening itself some attent the midnight mass and others stay home and prepare more food . In september even my young nieces and nephews start to ask me if there will be Christmas at my house. Friends of members of the family are also welcome. On the evening itself before they go home everybody helps out to put the house back in order. And before they leave the house looks like nothing happened. yes it is a lot of work and I have to take some rest afterwards but I would not want to break that tradition for any reason. It is the cement to our family and I gladly gladly keep it going. After all, it is 3 days in a whole year so 🤗
I’m so glad you find joy in going all out for your family traditions ☺️ Some people thrive doing this, but others see it as too exhausting and burdensome, and just ‘going through the motions’. Some would rather simplify holidays a bit to be able to relax and actually spend quality time with family. That’s what holidays are about, after all 😊
Happy belated birthday Sarah 💖🥳 all the best for you✨️ the sky looked so beautiful that day always enjoying your videos but I also really like how I learn something from it too, so informative. I was just reminded of the kimchi preparation season (?) idk how to name it hehe when I was a exchange student in Korea back in 2016 my Korean friend invited me to her grandma's house to prepare kimchi, all the women were working hard while the men were eating or resting... I know it's cultural and I was kinda used to it since it happens also in Mexico but is still surprising although I think it is slowly changing anyway have a great week guys😊🙆♀️ edited to add how I identified with Kyuho haha chocolate cake is the best 🤭
Happy belated birthday, Sarah! :) My birthday is tomorrow (woot)! And my favorite cake is also carrot cake! Though this year I changed it up and got white cake, much to the surprise of my household lol! I think it's really interesting to see how traditions change over time in all cultures (like here, we have Thanksgiving and it's so stressful and so much work for whoever hosts it). A lot of people are still doing the regular tradition but a lot of people (like us lol) just get a rotisserie chicken and make mashed potatoes and that's it 🤣😂🤣
Ohhh! Happy Birthday, fellow September baby! 🎉 Omg, carrot cake doesn’t get enough love 🧡 Omggg, love the rotisserie chicken and mashed potatoes idea! As long as you enjoy the food and no one is stressed and overworked, that’s all that really matters! 😄
Happy birthday dear Sarah, my wife uwu!!!! How cute was that haha. 🥹 Happy belated birthday 💕 I‘m watching this on the KTX from Busan to Seoul ayyy such a perfect video to get in the mood for the Seoul vibe haha. What are the chances of meeting you guys there coincidentally haha I’d be so happy. 🥰
I’m sorry your family went through a Hurricane wow I didn't know they could have them in Canada. Hope everything is alright. We are actually getting ready for one here tomorrow as well. I am now in Florida, before I was in Colorado. Your Chuseok Holiday is very beautiful and traditional its wonderful seeing everyone together. Knowing everyone goes home it's wonderful 😊
Happiest Birthday to you Sarah! I pray that you two are always healthy and happy, so that you can make more vlogs in the future for us to watch. :) Kyuho's laughter is always contagious btw hahahaha
On the subject of getting together for the holidays, after parents passed away, we now only come together just the immediate family. We in one gathering where minimum 50 people max 75. As we were 10 children and each sibling had 3 children. Now we just do a family reunion one a year. We daughters helped my mom with the cooking and left hard labor to the guys. Later we did pot luck n cleaned up. Now each family gather’s at their own home to continue with potluck tradition.
Sarah! You can ask your father in law for a cutting of his pothos plant and put it in water for a few weeks and you’ll get roots! Then plant it in soil.
Happy belated birthday, I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Enjoy learning about the Korean culture as I am planning a visit in 2024 as my grandniece wants to study there. If she does decide, I plan to stay for 6 months with her. The only problem I see is the long flight. I am used to traveling 10 hours but no more than that so I might stop in another country to rest before continuing.
Happy Birthday! i hope the tradition is able to be preserved, i know how crazy it is but it would be such a shame for it to fade out. I am interested to see how Christmas will be this year in Europe as we for the first time have no rules during this holiday
So interesting how much chuseok is changing since the pandemic. One of my Korean teachers also said that he no longer goes to his family's house and instead stays at home or goes on holiday (he's 30). I can imagine with birth rates being so low in Korea, perhaps the government want to help prevent unnecessary divorces around the holiday season too.
I spent Chuseok in Jeonju Hanok village and it was so packed! I went there in 2020 too and I'd say in terms of how many people went there, it's the same. Obviously in 2020 there were fewer people but it was still pretty packed up. This time it felt like everyone just wants to spend a ncie holiday instead of a long and exhausting food preparation.
@@2hearts1seoul It was pretty crowded, mostly nearby the food stalls 😅 But other than that, it wasn't as bad, I fetl as safe as in my country, since there are no mask rules since february - march. :) I missed a lot of opportunities during my study abroad back in 2020 - 2021 so I was pretty happy to see Jeonju like this!
Happy birthday!! 🎉 Your birthday was so nice. All the things you did would have been my perfect day too (except maybe the thrift clothes shopping lol 😆). Interesting to see in real time traditions changing like that for Chuseok. I wonder if it could become a regret later that some of those traditions get lost and aren’t practiced anymore. But I can see why younger generations just don’t want to participate as much anymore especially if it doesn’t hold much meaning for them.
I studied abroad to SK fall 2019 semester and I remember how when the holiday came around one of my teachers (that turned into like my SK mom) took her nephew, a family friend, and I to a buffet for a Chusuk lunch; I remember we where in the taxi and the 3 of them all mentioned how crazy that there was no one on the roads - they talked about how it used to be IMPOSSIBLE to drive that day and how we ran into zero traffic...so even before the covid "fun" times they were already seeing a decline in travel. It kinda reminds me of black Friday here in the USA. It used to be a CRAZY sh*t show (which was kinda fun to try and find parking and seeing how much of your list you could get that day, waiting in line for lunch and then getting home at 9-10pm with all the goodies) and how now a days they start black Friday deals like RIGHT after Halloween and black Friday isn't really a thing anymore....
Cakes I find it always hard to pick in good cake shops!!! Carrot cake and chocolate it is!!! 😬 Happy birthday Sarah!!! 🎉🍰✌🏻 P.s guys I gotta eat before I know kyuhos mums cooking!!!! 😋
I agree with Sarah. I live in Trinidad and I am of indo Caribbean decent. Maybe 10 years ago we had huge celebrations for various events such as prayer and weddings. Now everything is downsizing. I think, yes covid and the generational gap had a part but also cost of living expenses have contributed to this. Yes based on the class you're at, extravagance isn't affected. The more I learn about Korea from various sources, I don't think Korea is really very different compared to other countries. We all go through the same situation just it's a different country/culture.
Best of wishes to You Sarah, may all your wishes come true. 🌸🌟 Carrot cake > chocolate cake, I like it so much I couldn’t give up even after being vegan so I learned a vegan version of it haha. Any celebration has the main element of bringing people together and closer, customs can change but the essence shouldn’t be forgotten. In India there are various of such holidays, I often feel like the rituals can be a little extra in current times but nevertheless it’s always a good opportunity to connect with loved ones. 🌸💕
happy bday sarah!! big family gatherings have changed a lot in my family as well over the years. you can tell easily that there is still however a very clear division in gender role expectations regarding cooking and cleaning. fortunately, in the last 10 years, I've seen my family order more stuff instead of working the kitchen like crazy, so that gives everyone more time to enjoy. I still love the big get togethers though because that is so much our culture, that I would not want to see changed. the importance of family is a value that I think is one of the few positive traits of my country's society hahaha well, maybe it's good that now I don't feel pressured to spend every sunday with family, but rather go when I really want to and that makes it more enjoyable. on the other hand, I see my extended family less often and that makes me feel guilty tbh... about the korean holidays, I am an outsider so I am not sure how valid this question could be, but I wonder if the idea of getting rid of the rituals altogether is a westernised view of their own culture... and even the concept of "holiday" being a free day for enjoyment. the way I understand what those rituals are for, is about fulfilling filial duty. so not going to work because you have to do a ritual is because the society understands that being a good child and respecting the elder and ancestors is very important. if folks are needing more time to enjoy themselves with free time, I think the focus should be put in rethinking vacation days and how people get paid leaves to get more life/work balance. hope that made sense!
Good question! We’ve talked about this with Kyuho’s mom and lot, and read a lot of articles about it. One thing that very commonly comes up is a shift in people’s thinking and beliefs when it comes to these ancestral ceremonies. Korea has become more secular, and more and more people simply don’t believe in ancestral ceremonies anymore. There’s also a mindset shift these days ‘Focus on your loved ones who are living now and treat them well’, rather than breaking one’s back (and bank) for ancestral ceremony preparations.
Happy Birthday Sarah!!! What day is your birthday? Seems close to mine, I celebrated my 30th birthday on 24th of September! Also if you like hanging plants, I highly recommend you "strings of heart" plant, it is very easy to look after, just give a lot of sun and water once a week or two weeks and it will be happy, mine is always happy and beautiful even if I forget to water.
First of all, hope your parents and your bro are doing fine after Fiona's visit out East. These family gatherings are found pretty much everywhere. Look as a French Canadian Roman Catholic, new years eve is quite similar to what is done on during Chuseok (minus the altar but we used to go to church to remember/pay our respect to those that came before us) and the issue of the women "slaving" over the food preparation was always brought up also here. As solution we have opted to do pot luck, everyone brings 1 to 2 traditional dishes (with our family spruce beer) as to reduce the work load and later on, we specified that retired people over 65 did not have to prepare anything and odd years was women cooking and even years were men cooking. This was greatly appreciated by everyone especially to the elders; as my father's family is quite large (2 grand parents, 11 kids (including my father) plus their better half, my generation 33 (cousins and my siblings and I) and their better halves (another 33) and the following generation 15 kids. For a total of 105; the sleeping "arrangements" were always quite interesting also. LOL🙃😅 It is simple to keep the core of a tradition alive but everyone must do their little part to make sure it continues on. As my mother used to say: "why is it women only must slave in the kitchen while all the renowned chefs are men? If they're that good, they might as well participate." thus the change in the responsibilities. Propose it up next time you meet the other wives....🤯🤯😉
Oh my goodness, 105! It must be special to all still be in touch with one another, and I can just imagine how much work it is to prepare for your family gatherings. Glad to hear you guys have a system worked out!

😭 Oh, and yes, I’m in the US in the South where we go overboard.
i don’t know how I missed this video when it is my Sunday morning ritual but Happy Belated birthday Sarah, Hope you had an amazing fun day!
Happy Belated Birthday Sara! I’m glad that you enjoyed it. It was great that you could get together with Kuyho’s family.
Happy Birthday Sarah!!!! Also, I don't know why, but I feel like Kyuho likes chocolate cake more, lol. You guys are funny, lol.
Hahaha, he definitely made it known 😅🍫
Always-even now in the majority of cases 😅
Due to age/social hierarchy, it’s not something that would have been acceptable to complain about or even bring up.
Happy Birthday Sarah! Many happy wishes. Relaxing and watching after a hectic week.
I love watching the two of you showing us your perspective of life. I love how you live by your principals and individual beliefs. Thank you ❤
Oh yes …. Happy Birthday Sarah 🍰🥗🥳
I visited my in laws this chuseok and she prepared so so much since morning! I definitely have more to learn from her.
I sure hope that the storm was not too hard on them 🙏🇨🇦
Thank you ❤️ They’re all fine, but still have no power.
Happy belated birthday to sarah~😄
이번에 시댁까지 가는데 10시간이상 걸린거 안비밀~
It took me 10 hours to get to my parents in law in chuseok.
Traffic was nightmare
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sarah! Wishing you good health and prosperity in the coming year.
🎂🥂🎂🎉🎉🎉🎂🥂🎂
Happy Birthday, Sarah. My dad just had his Bday too. Wishing yall a great autumn. Chill video once again 😎☁️
Happy Birthday Sarah!!! 🥳🎉🎂. Always enjoy watching you & Kyuho.
Happiest of birthdays Sarah! Wishing you all the best. I was thinking of your family in NS as the storm passed that way. I hope they doing good. Will be waiting for your next Vlog on Sunday. Thanks for sharing your Holiday gathering with us!
Just the pick me up my soul needed❤, work has been rough all week and then I had to work this weekend too
Edited to add a super happy birthday to Sarah and that your niece and nephew have gotten so big! Its crazy!
Ohhh nooo 🥺 Sorry to hear that. Really hope you’ll get some much needed downtime soon ❤️
@@2hearts1seoul oh thank you, I get off early today since I had to come in earlier, but unfortunately I still have regular work tomorrow as well 😅
I’m with Kyuho. Chocolate is the best! But looks like you still had a happy birthday Sarah!
The piece of chocolate cake we got was also AMAZING-just as good as the carrot! 🥕🍫
I always look forward to your vlogs every week! Love how informative they are :)
Thank you so much! 🥰
Belated Happy birthday Sarah ❤️🎉.
I wish you have a very happy, healthy and wonderful life ahead 💐.
Happiest birthday, Sarah. May God continue to bless your life 💕

Happy Birthday Sarah! Hope your parents are ok in Canada after the devastating storm.
Happy birthday Sarah and your mom in law is a great cook, say hi from Toronto.
She’s so incredible talented 🥹
Congratulations with your birthday Sarah! Hope you’ve enjoyed your special day! 🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂
Thank you so much! I was lucky to have such a great birthday 🥰
Happy birthday Sarah!! Cheers! 🥂🎂🌻
They’re still celebrating it, but just increasingly in a more downsized, relaxed way-even traveling together in some cases 😊
Ohhh! I can’t wait for you to try the skincare box items 😍 But do take your time-been there with products that made my skin react 😩
Ohhh! That’s so nice of you to recommend our channel to your student-thank you 🥺❤️
@@2hearts1seoul Your channel is perfect for my student. Having two people who speak very clearly plus both English and Korean subs makes it perfect.
We have some real soup masters and bakers in our family so 🤗
On the evening itself some attent the midnight mass and others stay home and prepare more food .
That’s what holidays are about, after all 😊
Birthday is simple, but it is very sweet both of you!
We enjoy simple birthdays ☺️🎉
i hope Sarah birthday was special and you had a wonderful time
Happy Birthday Sarah!! I wish you an amazing day!! ❤️ 🎂🍰🎉🎈🎊🎋😊
Happy Birthday Sarah!🎊🎂Kyuho had to get his bid in with the chocolate cake😂
I loved Vin Prime when I lived there! Always found some fashionable clothing I could wear!
Happy Birthday Sarah ! Hope you have a perfect bday ! 🎉🎉🎈🎈🎊🎊
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH xx
Happy belated birthday Sarah 💖🥳 all the best for you✨️ the sky looked so beautiful that day
always enjoying your videos but I also really like how I learn something from it too, so informative. I was just reminded of the kimchi preparation season (?) idk how to name it hehe when I was a exchange student in Korea back in 2016 my Korean friend invited me to her grandma's house to prepare kimchi, all the women were working hard while the men were eating or resting... I know it's cultural and I was kinda used to it since it happens also in Mexico but is still surprising although I think it is slowly changing
anyway have a great week guys😊🙆♀️ edited to add how I identified with Kyuho haha chocolate cake is the best 🤭
I also like carrot cake on my birthday!
It’s the best 🤭🥕
"Happy birthday, dear Sarah - my wife." ❤️
🎉 Omg, carrot cake doesn’t get enough love 🧡
Omggg, love the rotisserie chicken and mashed potatoes idea! As long as you enjoy the food and no one is stressed and overworked, that’s all that really matters! 😄
Thanks for your honest opinion about Chusuk. I agree with you.
Your vlog is exceptional!! Your vlog is very informative. The videos are well edited and colors are very pleasant to the eyes.
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Happy birthday dear Sarah, my wife
uwu!!!! How cute was that haha. 🥹 Happy belated birthday 💕
I‘m watching this on the KTX from Busan to Seoul ayyy such a perfect video to get in the mood for the Seoul vibe haha.
What are the chances of meeting you guys there coincidentally haha I’d be so happy. 🥰

Happy Birthday, fellow September baby! 🎉
Happy birthday Sarah!!
Happy belated birthday Sarah!!!! ❤️
Happiest Birthday to you Sarah!
I pray that you two are always healthy and happy, so that you can make more vlogs in the future for us to watch. :)
Kyuho's laughter is always contagious btw hahahaha
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes and for the kind words 🥰
@@2hearts1seoul You're very welcome Sarah :) Thank you for your response either on here or on IG. That makes me happy :)
50 to 75 people gathering, daaayummm! Someone must have a huge house 🤯
Happy birthday Sarah!! 🎉Dinner with the family looked delicious. I do think I need clarification though on what exactly is in that can at 8:42 😂
Sarah! You can ask your father in law for a cutting of his pothos plant and put it in water for a few weeks and you’ll get roots! Then plant it in soil.
Never even thought of that 🥲
Happy Birthday 🎉. I hope your family in Nova Scotia are doing well after the hurricane went through this weekend.
Thank you so much ❤️ They likely won’t have power until Wednesday, but they’re all fine~
Love your dress, Sarah! Where did you get it? Happy birthday! 🎊🎂
Thank you! I got it at H&M in Canada-lots more styles for tall girls 😊
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH, 🎈🎈🌹🌹❤❤ GLAD YOU ENJOYED YOUR DAY AND ALSO YOUR FAVORITE SLICE OF CAKE 🎂🤣🤣
Thank you so much! I had a fabulous day 🥕
Happy Birthday! i hope the tradition is able to be preserved, i know how crazy it is but it would be such a shame for it to fade out.
Happy Birthday 🎂 Sarah.
Perfect way to settle down in bed after a very lazy Sunday. Loving the video so far! ❤️
Sarah, I hope your family did ok during that crazy hurricane. ❤️🙏🏼❤️
Thank you~ they’re fine, just won’t have power for a few days.
Woahhh, I can only imagine how crowded it must have been there during the holiday! 😮
@@2hearts1seoul It was pretty crowded, mostly nearby the food stalls 😅 But other than that, it wasn't as bad, I fetl as safe as in my country, since there are no mask rules since february - march. :) I missed a lot of opportunities during my study abroad back in 2020 - 2021 so I was pretty happy to see Jeonju like this!
happy birthday sarah❤️wish you the best 🥳ily guys both of you are amazing!!!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Kyuho’s pants are really nice. Good choice!
Happy Birthday Sarah
Happy birthday Sarah 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁
Belated Happy Birthday Sarah! 😊🎂🎉 Love this vlog❤️

Happy birthday Sarah!!! 🎉🍰✌🏻
P.s guys I gotta eat before I know kyuhos mums cooking!!!! 😋
havent really watched much, but the colors are really popping
I agree with Sarah. I live in Trinidad and I am of indo Caribbean decent. Maybe 10 years ago we had huge celebrations for various events such as prayer and weddings. Now everything is downsizing. I think, yes covid and the generational gap had a part but also cost of living expenses have contributed to this. Yes based on the class you're at, extravagance isn't affected.
The more I learn about Korea from various sources, I don't think Korea is really very different compared to other countries.
We all go through the same situation just it's a different country/culture.
H- Birthday!
Enjoy the difference..
happy birthday Sarah !! very interesting topics about holiday Chuseok
happy bday sarah!!
big family gatherings have changed a lot in my family as well over the years. you can tell easily that there is still however a very clear division in gender role expectations regarding cooking and cleaning. fortunately, in the last 10 years, I've seen my family order more stuff instead of working the kitchen like crazy, so that gives everyone more time to enjoy. I still love the big get togethers though because that is so much our culture, that I would not want to see changed. the importance of family is a value that I think is one of the few positive traits of my country's society hahaha
well, maybe it's good that now I don't feel pressured to spend every sunday with family, but rather go when I really want to and that makes it more enjoyable. on the other hand, I see my extended family less often and that makes me feel guilty tbh...
about the korean holidays, I am an outsider so I am not sure how valid this question could be, but I wonder if the idea of getting rid of the rituals altogether is a westernised view of their own culture... and even the concept of "holiday" being a free day for enjoyment. the way I understand what those rituals are for, is about fulfilling filial duty. so not going to work because you have to do a ritual is because the society understands that being a good child and respecting the elder and ancestors is very important. if folks are needing more time to enjoy themselves with free time, I think the focus should be put in rethinking vacation days and how people get paid leaves to get more life/work balance. hope that made sense!
@@2hearts1seoul that makes a lot of sense!! would you say people are getting less conservative as well or just more secular?
Happiest birthday sister Sara...u guys are couple goals...jus want to see more romantic videos of u....god bless 🥧💐🎊🎉🎂🥰🤩

Happy Birthday, Sarah!!! fr 🇨🇦
LOL🙃😅
It is simple to keep the core of a tradition alive but everyone must do their little part to make sure it continues on.
