My 2005 R1200RT had 91000 miles on it, and I'd bought it used at 90,000. When I bought it, I thought there was something a little off about the idle when it started cold, but the mechanic said no big deal, and it worked well after a few seconds...until this very thing happened, right when I was taking my wife for a first ride out for coffee in her brand new leather jacket...just died, then would start for 30 seconds idling rough, then died again, over and over. Then I found your video, Ray, and your before and after recordings clinched it for me. Your bike sounded just like mine. I ordered the controller, and it came with a new O-ring. Turned out the original O-ring had gotten pinched a little during installation by a wire beneath it, the O-ring failed, the controller got corroded, just like yours. Now she purrs like a kitten! Thanks for this GREAT video, you inspired me to do the first real repair I've ever done on this bike. "Happy Days", indeed!

I thought my problem was just the fuel pump, it was but also needed the controller, soon have it then I can ride again, thanks again for the vid mate.

Just had my fuel pump controller replaced. Good to actually see exactly where the part is and how it comes out. Didn't replace myself as bike was recovered and sorted at the garage. Thanks for the video, any info is always helpful.

Turn your camera side ways the next time, you can see far more, people just don't seem to be able to understand this. Good video.

I have the 2014 model, but I think my pump is on the way out. I'm sure when I started the bike the noise wasn't as loud before and would shut off after a few seconds. It's now never shutting off and constantly whirring. I hear a ticking noise from the cylinder heads too if I put my ear up against them

My dealer just told me the part with tax is 1885.00 CDN, Also said it needs to be coded. Is this true?

Your battery sounded a bit low, almost to the point of not starting, I had that problem till I bought a new one then no other slow starting or almost no starting since the new. I'm having to replace my fuel pump.

Thanks Jyme, believe it or not, I have owned 3 other BMW's in the past with the same lazy start.

What year is your r1200? How do you test to verify the cause of the problem is the controller? Cost of new controller? It would be helpful for people to be shown the location of all screws to remove parts. thanks for the video.

Its a 2005 model. I googled the symptoms and most of the answers pointed to the fuel pump controller. Your welcome, glad you found it usefull

Not really, just over an complication of electronics that make it run efficiently suffer from failures like any modern vehicle unfortunately, just modern systems...
