That Bomb cyclone 🌀 was something else. Glad u found a safe place and Roodle 🐾 got to go on some walk on the beach before..As always stay safe and happy VanVenturing 💖✨
Vivy and I were imagining locals in their homes watching Dave go up that trail and saying “Honey, look! There’s a crazy person out there!” Of course, if I was there, I’d be right behind him.😃
Wow. Glad you found a safe spot. We live in Sammamish and we were pretty much ground zero. A tree fell behind us and took out 5 homes. Everywhere you went there were homes with trees on them. We were out of power for a week. It was crazy!
My neighborhood was lucky in that all the trees that fell missed houses and only crushed fences, decks, and a greenhouse. Down the road at the campground I think 75 trailers were damaged by trees, but most were closed up for winter, so nobody was in them. The tree on my property that was most likely to fall, I had cut down last year and it was keeping the house warm for the five days until the power came back on
@kenmcclow8963 wow. The storm back in the early 2000k was much stronger but this one was like a tornado came down and took out a swarth. Glad your neighbors house was missed. We don't have any tall trees on our property but plenty on all sides of the neighbors.
So glad you were safe during that storm, and that you found a sweet spot with less wind! As you mentioned, sometimes you find yourself in the wrong place and have to make do. We did in the Oregon fire years ago when it went to the coast and found ourselves almost trapped. BUT, as someone else said, you have the Stormtroopers protecting you! Looking forward to your next video. Rose & Michael
There is no power on earth greater than water. The ocean was very angry, and the wind made up the difference. So glad you were able to find a safe spot to escape that deadly wind. Wishing you safe travels.
I love the pre-storm walk on the beach! One of my favorite things! And your parking stop view is excellent! We're kindred spirits in this area♥️ I love storms.
I’ve been waiting for this one. I rode out a few bomb cyclones in Del Norte County (CA). It’s a good time to NOT be dependent on the power grid. Thanks for sharing.
My dog & I were in Coos Bay, Oregon during this weather. Praise God, we loved to tell of it as well 🙏🙏❣️ Sendin Grandmama love ❌⭕, Iris and Little One 👋🐾
Awesome video/episode - I used to live in Langlois (about 12 miles north of Port Orford) - so Elk River was once a favorite place to go swimming in the summer. Glad you got to a safe spot. Come back in the summer! Safe travels.
Great video, as usual! I've seen that road near you covered with pelicans hunkered down during a storm, so I guess they know the safe spot too. I was thinking about you guys during that storm and wondering how bad it was in the van - I'm so glad you found that protected area for the night. I had a tree come down in my yard right next to my house and branches were scattered all over the place, but no real damage.
Glad everything was OK for you guys. We fell in love with Port Orford, and we stayed at The Castaway, right near where you were, both on our way up the coast and on the way down. Cute town. How about that unusual dock?!
ISO appreciate that you guys share with us these kinds of videos.Because it's the kind.I would love to see and be in the middle of. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures.Cause it really is just fun. God bless and keep you safe and just continue to have a wonderful time looking at all His beautiful creation, Blessings❤
You two have superb content! Glad to see you got lucky through that storm! I'm watching your Oregon coast journey intently as I'm making a similar trip in late May from my home in AZ, solo this time. 10 days (projected), 3k miles camping in my SUV. I'm going clockwise returning through central Oregon, staying one night at or near Smith Rock SP, which is one of my favorite places in Oregon. 😉 Your Depot Bay drone shots & others were epic, BTW. Great seas that King Tide day.
Since you can drive down the road at 75mph, the front of the van can take hurricane force winds. It’s just in a real hurricane the danger would be whatever debris the wind might carry and damage the windshield. Plus you would want to turn the van around once the eye wall passed.
Dave getting wind speed readings reminded me of the Weather channel guy 😂riding out hurricanes 🌀 I think the shelter you found is about the safest you could find. The sea 🌊 was definitely angry.
The best place to storm watch on the coast is Cape Blanco, not far from where you two hunkered down. As far as I know it is the westernmost place on the mainland and juts out so you can catch the southerly winds. I took my wife and kids there when the kids were small in 80 mph gusts, and was throwing them out about 6 ft. letting the wind push them back into my arms. I've got a vhs tape from that day somewhere. We had to stop because the rain was leaving welts.
I am wondering...so far never experienced winds like this..plus never tried my wondering...so I just don't know...Do you ever want to stake down your vehicle? Have ropes around some strong trees(not tall trees) but ones to keep steady.. I saw a couple on a nice boat found an inlet..put the boat in the center of the water and both sides had rope around trees tied up with what they trusted... or have your vehicle staked down..like a tent with stakes in the ground? Probably there are rules but curious...
That reminds me of me and my daughter we went to the coast and we stayed in a oceanfront motel the last room that was available was on the bottom floor and we went out we watched the waves for a while eleven o'clock at night we get in the house and it was stormy you can see the rain coming but then we had a storm surge in the water brought the sand up and made two and three foot wrinkles brought the sand up and then quickly went back out and left these sand in molds that look like they were **** waves and I'm glad that the waves didn't come over the parking lot because then where we would have been in the building but I loved the Oregon coast and the storm factor
Thanks for the heads up! I added it to hardware and gadgets. This one was a gift 🎁 given to us many years ago! It has been awesome! It is the Krystal 3500 and I will include a link. Since then there have been upgrades so you might check out the newer ones to see if it is something you are interested in. amzn.to/4aohEX9
Roodle has a growth on his upper eyelid that has been causing him some discomfort and eye discharge. His regular vet in California said it would be best to have it removed and because of the location this requires a pet ophthalmologist. He is scheduled for surgery on Friday afternoon. We wanted to be proactive and have this taken care of before it causes major discomfort and/or turns into an emergency situation adding to the already expensive cost. We are very thankful that we do have the money to have it done….but it certainly does put a dent in the bank account! Thanks for asking! If you would like to help out…. (We are not asking for help) but if you are so inclined we do have a PayPal link in our video description box.
❤California here. Glad you’re all ok. Did something happen to the house that you pointed out in the middle of the video to remember? Did I miss something?
+@daviduribe3111 we had a few other locations that we were going to Check out but there wasn’t much for cover. One location was right next to a building….not sure if it would have been better or not? The spot we found was INCREDIBLY protected!
Just wondering if you knew a storm of such magnitude was heading your way, why not head further inland to get further away? That’s why you have wheels. Please be safe out there. Not worth the risk for content.
+@rubberduckie123 we knew a storm was coming but not a bomb cyclone! Bomb cyclones are explosive and it came in fast and early! By the time we saw the storm rolling in 3 days earlier than expected the winds were already strong. Driving this van in strong winds is not fun and our plan B was to go inland but all the passes were getting snow. At this point it was better to hunker down and ride it out.
That Bomb cyclone 🌀 was something else. Glad u found a safe place and Roodle 🐾 got to go on some walk on the beach before..As always stay safe and happy VanVenturing 💖✨
Thank goodness you had the storm troopers with you.
😄
Just a little wind.....glad you found that magic spot and you take measures to stay safe!
Good job of documenting the storm. 👍🏻
That was scary. Glad you found a safe spot to hunker down!!!❤

I'm so glad you guys were able to find a safe place to park during that storm!
Glad you all were careful. Very good video showing the challenge of Vanlife. Sorry we did not make Quartzite this year . Pet Roodle for us.
When things get crazy we're sure to get amazing videography. Glad you all stayed safe.
Take care. 🥰♥️
+@meglange3595 yup!

+@lfoster7085 wow…pelicans! Wildlife are smart! Glad your damage was minimal!
Wow, it's crazy how protected that spot was - like there wasn't a storm at all!
+@srameypr it really was! I am so glad we found it! Otherwise it would have been quite the night!
Cape Blanco lighthouse about 10 miles north of where you stayed registered a 90 mph gust that day/night.
Glad everything was OK for you guys. We fell in love with Port Orford, and we stayed at The Castaway, right near where you were, both on our way up the coast and on the way down. Cute town. How about that unusual dock?!
Great video! We drove down the Oregon Coast last week. So many downed trees! The damage continued for miles inland.

Looks like some pretty angry seas. Glad everything worked out OK for you two. Keep the good stuff coming.
I'll be in Coos Bay in March. Looking forward to seeing the area.
What a great place to watch the storm! I don't envy you though. I've been through winds like that in my 5th wheel and it was no fun at all.
Beautiful location to storm watch
Carrie, I love that furry hood you're wearing!

You guys never get excited. Riding the last hurricane out in our van never crossed my mind.....Stay Safe....Happy Trails 🐕

@kenmcclow8963 yea we went thru 2 in the last few years

Wow great video of the storm!
Always an adVANture.
That’s normal winds here 😅 I’m proud of my skoolie, it’s still standing after 2 storms that had 80+ mph winds! Sent you a video of one on instagram.
Great video 😊I’m gonna visit this place this year . I love the ocean ❤️
Stay safe and warm thinking about you both and rootle of course

After cleaning your car, windows put Rainex on them. You will be amazed at how well rain sheets off the van windows.
+@GMA4441 we are not fans of rainex….it always seems to add cloudiness when using windshield wipers. Have you ever noticed this?

I didn't find your little wind meter in your amazon store. Which one was it. Thanks.

I was Brookings, not as bad. The trees didn't like it, they lost some large limbs.
'After' these storms do you ever look for tiny bits of gold near these rivers and going into thr beaches to ocean?
Hi , I'm not a patreon , but my friend Carrie is and we were wondering what happened to Roodle that he needs surgery...we want to help !😢

That was one crazy storm. You guys are probably to young to remember the butter commercial that said don't mess with Mother Nature.
❤California here. Glad you’re all ok. Did something happen to the house that you pointed out in the middle of the video to remember? Did I miss something?
@@jeanniebaker9929 they said the house provided a wind block to the spot they parked in later during the storm.
Damn!
So what's up did rudol have to have surgery?
When was this? Quite a while ago?
+@Makeitright531 this was in November
Be careful, please don't expose yourself ❤
Had the "bomb cyclone" been referred to as a "Category 4 Hurricane", would you still have remained parked at the coast line?
+@daviduribe3111 we had a few other locations that we were going to Check out but there wasn’t much for cover. One location was right next to a building….not sure if it would have been better or not? The spot we found was INCREDIBLY protected!
