When people ask who was and still is may favorite animator and inspration for my art on you tube i have always said Jaitiod. Also i felt that in my soul about how big animator get team and stuff and i'm doing it all by myself. on an Ipad.
It’s fun coming back to see the content you two are working on after years of not watching. I remember the classic era of jaltoid very well (and all the copycats) and I did watch the lets play content for a while before getting burnt out on that type of content in general. It’s nice to see you both still together and working on new projects!
I was very active around the time you were at your prime of gaming content but never saw you suprisingly even though I know it would have been right up my alley, granted I was like 15/16 at the time but I have a bunch of cool content to catch up now and it's amazing to see a content creator duo last this long I always dread seeing them usually as they generally fall apart in a few years at best but glad you two made it work its so great to se two goobers just going througb life keep it up it's great
the way my ears perked up when you said "a youtuber from spain" and my brain started running the simulations to figure out who has a jaltoid styled character and then you described what the design was like and i was like "idfk who that is" honestly i dont consume much hispanic content so it might just be a skill issue
I love the insight you guys shared on the process of commissioning and collaborating with others online. I've been doing the freelance gamedev and youtube thing for a couple years now and have had a lot of trouble figuring out how to work with different folks and teams and what not. I pay a lot of artists and have had great, meh, and bad working situations with it and I really want to do my best to provide a great working experience for everyone and that payment and pricing is fair. But I tend to overpay on work I didn't truly love, have a tendeceny to undervalue my own work when I'm commissioned for design and writing, and have had troubles with people plagiarizing my and others work. It's rough out here man! But hearing about your guys experience and thoughts on it really shines a lot on the artist perspective for commisions, which really helps to hear! Thank you! Not to mention it feels good to hear about the beginnings of your channels and projects. Makes me feel like im on the right path! I used to watch you guys all the time way back in the day and I'm SO happy to see your work again!! Wish I saw these new videos sooner! Very pumped to go through the other podcast episodes and your future work!! :)
I’ve struggled with determining prices for my own commissions before, so this episode stood out to me. But for those who are afraid of raising them higher to meet demands, don’t be. Much like any artists, you put a lot of time and skill into your work, so you deserve to be compensated. Often times the only people who will criticize you for it are people who know nothing about the art world and think it’s just free money just because you were “BORN” with that skill. If you believe your prices are justified, don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself.
I believe I started watching your guys’ videos in my early college years back in the 2010s’ like man where did the time go? Still love y’all’s stuff btw 👌
At this point somehow, these podcasts have been feeling like a comfort zone to me, it´s nice hearing your perspectives in many things of the past internet era
THIS IS WHAT I BEEN WAITING FOR!! RAHHH ! I’ve been watching your guys animations since middle school IM A GROWN ASS WOMEN NOW!! Can’t wait for more vids! ^^ love your podcast!
It always shocks me when people say that the owner of newgrounds was so reachable and actually directly helpful. Sick of this world filled with mega corpos
It's widly interesting hearing just how many creators you guys had your time around over the years. Especially with all the juicy drama you keep dishing on the side lol
I've been doing art for over 12 years now. I think I've gotten pretty good at it, but my "popularity" doesn't reflect that and its been really discouraging to keep going because it feels like nothing has been working. But its been the only way I could make income in my situation and I dont exactly get the choice to give up. Especially lately, a lot of artists say that AI won't replace us, but I've noticed a SIGNIFICANT drop in customers ever since AI generators became more common and its just adding to my frustration of not feeling good enough/not feeling like the "reward" reflects the time and effort I've put into my skill. I don't disagree that its time and talent what matters, but I think theres something else there that I'm still missing and I don't know what it is.
BEATLES ROCK BAND MENTION LETS GO!!!! Beatles Rock band was a big fave activity for me at the time- I loved the animation at the Title Theme (I think one of the Gorrilaz artist's worked on it) And I think on average my favorite "era" of the Beatles is like *Right* in the middle With Sgt Pepper, I am the Walrus, Yellow Submarine, Hello Goodbye. aaaa!!!
Re:Time and talent... Talent is a product of time, but from previous investment over your whole life. Practically everything is a skill, and every skill can and just be improved by practice. Skills called natural are just practiced as a natural product of fascination and love.
As a person struggling to get into creative works i realized that very soon, I'd like to put in the time to develop talent (since I realize my stuff sucks) but too many things require my full attention nowadays so I'm just stuck on a boring 9 to 6 🫠
These stories, guys 😅 maybe you should release that Old Lady animation after all, we missed those weird interactions ✌🏼 Also I didn't expect you would casually mention the YNW enterprise, it was a legit line of work after all 👍🏼
There isn't much of a difference between the music thing and the guy's avatar. In both cases it's someone retroactively deciding that they should have been paid more because the other person just happened to have some success with what they got. Only real difference is that in one case it was a commission, which is really the service that is being paid for, because the idea of owning a concept forever just from expressing it one time is nonsense. Becomes pretty obvious by applying it to other contexts. Like, imagine if someone decided to charge you more money for your house because you started making more money than they expected you to, or having to pay them royalties because you built another one that maybe takes ideas from the one they built, or worse, someone copyrighting the concept of housing and charging anyone that builds one. I say just abolish it all, it's all just holding the species back. It's why I'm team "AI". Though that technology itself should be entirely owned by the public, because everyone ultimately contributed to building it.
The key difference here is that commissioned art and royalty-free music are two separate agreements. A commission is a custom piece created under specific terms, often including how it can be used. If the brand used that art beyond what was agreed upon, especially without credit, it likely violated those terms, which is unethical and possibly illegal. The artist still owns the rights to their work unless they explicitly sold them. Royalty-free music, on the other hand, comes with a blanket license. Once you pay for that license, you’re free to use it within the limits set, no matter how successful the project becomes. The musician agreed to those terms upfront, so it’s not comparable to a commission where the artist’s terms might have been breached. The argument about "owning a concept forever" misses the point of intellectual property. Artists keep the rights to protect their work from misuse. It’s not about charging more just because someone’s work becomes successful; it’s about honoring the terms of use agreed upon. Sorry for the rant but I want to school for this lol.
@@nothanks2653 No problem. But those are nuances of a system that is evil and should be demolished, so, don't have much to say there. Which is good because over the years I have moved towards the direction of "never discuss anything ever for any reason". Has been working pretty well. Though of course, just like I won't say much in this kind of situation, I won't be saying much either when Nintendo or Disney comes for their heads. I mean, it's only fair.
Of all people to provide emi with aid i did not expect Tom freaking Fulp of Newgrounds.
