    recommend getting a short SNES extension cable to plug the hyperkin into. That way you aren't wearing out anything on the console end.

      I have these on all my consoles for the same reason. Unfortunately a lot of those cables have the same fitment issue but at least you only need to plug it in once in a while

      Would making the plug colder for a while make it shrink?

    What i like in your videos, it is not only the content but also the fact that you speak clearly and slowly.
    I am french, with the subtitles, this is the only TH-cam US channel that i understand completely.
    Thanks for your work and for showing us your passion :)

    My friend had a stroke and only his right arm works at present so he'll be stoked to see this video as he's a huge SNES Player and neither of us knew that that many games worked with it, I thought there was only about 5.

    Someone should mod the SNES-version of SimCity to play w/ the mouse.

  • @johneygd
    @johneygd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    The biggest reason why you should buy a hyperkin mouse is because you don't have to clean the ball overtimes like with the snes mouse were dust & tear will come & settle inside it, but sins this mouse uses an optical sensor, you absolutely never have to worry about getting unresponsive overtimes.
    While i first was alway's hoping that someone will mod the nintendo snes mouse with a optical sensor inside it,but now seeing this, theres no need to do that anymore!!!
    This is absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!

    Great video! The overly tight connector seems to be a common thing with these 3rd party SNES accessories. The 8bitdo retro receiver is the same way. You could swing the console over top your head by the connector and the connector will stay plugged in lol. And lol @ at the outro bloopers.

    I STRONGLY recommend 2 Hyperkin mice for 2player titles especially "T2 arcade" , have a great one 😸👍👍

    They made this because the orginal had a ball style mouse and that would get stuck at times.

      and if it got stuck, it would require finding a way to clean the rollers.

    • @HeyItsJonny
      @HeyItsJonny 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@figment1988 I flip the mouse over, remove the ball, grab tweezers and hold a roller while rubbing the gunk off and rotating the roller. Repeat on each roller.

    • @FWDSUXARSE
      @FWDSUXARSE 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gotta clean them balls lol. Back before optical mice were a thing I had to use either cleaning wipes or isopropyl alcohol and qtips to clean the mouse ball and rollers on those type of mice.

    Great video! There's something weird and interesting to me about using mice with a console, especially with older hardware like the SNES.

  • @Mikey-Himself
    @Mikey-Himself 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Im assuming the SNES original mouse is ball and not optical? I am curious if that really affects the accuracy or latency on the SNES. The reaction on your Super Famicom seems like almost zero. I seem to remember the difference of my fist optical mouse in windows was night and day.

    • @figment1988
      @figment1988 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yep. the Nintendo mouse was the classic ball guided mouse.

  • @figment1988
    @figment1988 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    other games that do work with it include Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Jurassic Park (for the Doom-style interior stages), and while it is unofficial, Revolution X also works (though it has an odd bug that once you let go of the fire button, the game will pause)

  • @GreatHammurabi
    @GreatHammurabi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not sure if you still check comments on old videos but I just received one of these today and it seems like they mostly fixed the plug-in issue. It's still a touch more snug than an official SNES controller but did not seem as snug as it was in your video. Seems like they have a slightly widened the connector holes.
    I tested it on an American SNES and my Super NT, so not sure if that would produce different results over the SFC. I can only assume the ports are identical.
    Either way, great video and great review!

    Man, I have tin star but never tried it with the mouse, looks like a great way to play it. Loved this peripheral back in the day, playing the ol' fly swatting game in mario paint was great with the mouse.

    Eye of the Beholder and Wolfenstein 3D works with the mouse too =D I think in total there's around 50 or 60 games. Full list here:- gaming.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_SNES_Mouse-compatible_video_games
    Great review btw - although I would personally avoid until they replace that connector! Or perhaps use it with an extension cable.

    I just got the mouse delivered today and played my only, that I know of, that work with the mouse: T2 The Arcade Game. I guess I need to get a mouse pad for those as the surface that I use for my regular mouse for my PC isn't good for a like like T2.
    As for your issue with it being a tight fit in your Super Famicom, I just plugged my mouse into my American Super Nintendo and had no tight feeling and I heard the click. So since this post is made nearly 2 years later, either Hyperkin fixed that tight connection or else my SNES is different from the Japanese version.

    On the Ball is a great SNES mouse game. Requires precision like Arkanoid. On the Ball is an arcade conversion of Tatio's Cameltry or like Revolver on the Acorn Archimedes.

    I'm soo glad that you have been masking videos way past my first subscribe click.
    I love the tech side of video games, including the grey area stuff that's needed so the games never got lost to history :)
    is there any systems capable of playing DOSBox and the majority of games available?
    well I hope you check the old vids for new comments because I would loved ot see that. I have 2 soft modded og Xbox's one has 2tb hd and every game made up till and including all xbox games. if I could turn my second og soft mod xbox into a dos emulation station and fill another 2tb drive that would rock. The mouse just got me thinking.
    I will always have a time period correct desktop system that i can pull out of storage, its just the xbox can go in my backpack to friends house much easier and it basically a legit computer system so it should work hehe?
    I cant wait to hear your thoughts on the matter,
    Thanks.
    Gordon.

    The colour of the buttons is a bit off-putting. It would be nice if it matched the console or just looked a bit classier. Otherwise, it does look pretty cool. I still use my mouse from time to time and it would be cool to try an optical.

      @@jamessmithandgarrettsmith3623 yeah i gotcha ! it was a snes launch title ! i wonder if someone will bother to make a romhack that adds mouse support someday lol there's one for Clock Tower !

  • @ZappaSlave

    Every Super Robot Wars game on the SNES is mouse compatible. The one we own seems very... insensitive, and often shifts over a few dozen pixels meaning clicking on things is difficult.
    Using mine recently brought me here to see if mine was malfunctioning or if this was standard.

    Do you think Hyperkin will ever make an optical mouse for the N64? That would be fantastic!

    • @kbramlett6877
      @kbramlett6877 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are no games for the N64 that would require a mouse. So, why would Hyperkin R&D team need to bother?

    • @jamessmithandgarrettsmith3623
      @jamessmithandgarrettsmith3623 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s Mario Artist, those N64 mouse challenges on TH-cam and possible FPS game hacks with the mouse introducing better control plus the avoidance of hundreds of dollars wasted on an unreliable piece of plastic.

      The SNES mouse does NOT work with emulators via the USB controller adapter. I've tried. If you search various ROM sites, you will find ROM hacks where you can use the basic controller. That's how I play Mario & Wario. That game is absolutely addicting.
