One thing I found to help with torque rolls on this one is more expo than normal (other planes). This plane is sensitive around center controls and it makes TRs look ugly. More expo helps a lot here. If you find you’re chasing it or really shoving the sticks around take some expo back out as that’s a sign of adding too much.
It definitely is sensitive. I fly with 85% expo and I still feel like I could go higher with the throws I'm using. I'm pretty certain I need to reduce the aileron throws a bit, and possibly the elevator. At some point the design fights back against the throws and it stops performing well and looks sloppy and weird. I may just have too many expectations for this model as well.
@@TwoBrosRC This plane takes more work than others I own but each time out I feel improvements and it’s closer to my expectations. My next trip will be max ailerons (to allow max spoileron capability) but tamed with lower dual rates at the cost of resolution as I’m not fond of blinding roll rates. Max elevator as simply trying to live with anything less KILLS elevators and waterfalls. My expo isn’t as high as yours even though higher than my other planes but I focus on smooth flight which has trained me I guess. I may drive one in like a fence post but it’ll look smooth and planned!
Around 9:00 on the video add another point. Put a point at 25% on each side of center, one for up elevator as you did and another one for down on the opposite side then adjust accordingly on both sides. This equalizes up and down or even seperates up/down for fine tuning.
Also I noticed you put hinges on the ailerons and I assume elevator did you do that right away or did you wait for them to break. Seems like a good idea do. you know which hinges you used. Thanks
This plane came prehinged and didn't need hinging after the fact. The replacement set of wings needed rehinged since they were foam hinged. We use Hobbypark nylon pinned hinges.
Hey there, really love your Extra videos it made me get into it as well, I trained with it on realflight quite a lot but I'm still a newbie when it comes to RC so my question is: Can I even setup the flaperons or snap flaps for harrier with the normal BNF version? I think I read to do this I need to change something about the servos being split in two? Or is there another version as well in which I can make the elevator and ailerons turn up together?
Have you figured out the replacement for that prop spinner (if you had to deal with it) ... they way the have that prop adapter, seems like the only spinned would be the factory replacement and they are out of stock. Anything you can suggest outside of replacing a motor?
Would you happen to know how to setup flaperons with a Spektrum radio (NX8E) for the Eflite Extra 300 on the RealFlight simulator? I setup my radio model profile for flaperons but when I flip the switch it puts one aileron up and one down… and then of course goes into a roll. I’d like to experiment with this setup on the simulator if possible before messing with it on my actual Extra 300. Googling hasn’t yielded much useful information. I’m barely intermediate so I only fly the real one on 50% rates for the 10 or so flights I’ve done. I fly it pretty well in the simulator but do crash every once in a while so I need a bunch more crash free hours in the virtual realm before I open it up with the real model.
Configuring aircraft on RF is not simple. I'd have to make a tutorial video on it, and even that wouldn't help you much as the physics in RF are not really representative of reality. Flaperons in RF wouldn't behave like they do on the scale model. I know because I fly with them on occasion and RF doesn't model the sudden stall the model experiences in that configuration.

Hey, hopefully you see this and sorry for my bad english! I've bought the plane and have really much fun with it. I'm about to start some 3d maneuvers now. But I have that issue, if u give throttle, the aircraft needs exact 1 second to receive it. Other inputs on the rudders are even with my working on the radio. On the ground, if I give throttle the aircraft reacts immediatly. But not so in the air like i said. Can ypu help me?
So u used Minwax polycrylic you actually brushed that onto the entire plane is that why it’s so shiny and what does that do protect the foam it doesn’t add too much weight or anything bad
Thanks for all the info. Being someone with little experience I wanted to ask you about your radio choice - obviously you could probably use whatever radio you wanted, but you stick with Spektrum - is that just because its what you have always used? the ix20 is obviously really nice and all, but damn expensive. I just bought my first radio ( radiomaster tx16s mk 2) and find that for the money it has a ton of capability - live telemetry, endless mixing options, custom functions, tons of switches etc etc etc. It seems from my limited experience that it can do everything the Spektrum radios can? or is there something I'm missing? thanks for any input.
I just stuck with Spektrum because I'd already invested into the ecosystem. The IX20 was the best radio they had to offer which is why I upgraded to it. Having the option to work with Android opened up running on-screen displays over the setup vids so they're easier to work with for people watching.
Hi Jon, when you activate your harrier flaps I presume you flick a switch to do this, if so does this automatically raise both the ailerons and elevator and they all remain up until you you switch this off or do the ailerons only go up when you apply elevator? Also how much of the ailerons and how much of the elevator go up? I have a frsky radio so trying to set this up as a custom mix..
The setup should go over it. The mix is elevator -> spoileron. Adding elevator input causes the spoilerons to kick upward. Everything should be covered in the vid - check the section for harrier flaps again and let me know if something is unclear.
This will be my next airplane. Do you know anybody flying with a 4s 2200mah pack. Will it balance with that size and what are the flight times. Let me know please. THANKS.
It'll balance with 4s 2200 to 3200 and beyond. I've run two parallel 2800 packs in it before. It's just somewhat tail-heavy on 2200. Flight time varies based on how you fly. 3D might net you a few minutes. Energy-based aerobatics should get you 3 to 5. 7 to 10 tops if you're flying non-aggressively.
Found your channel! appreciate all your help today.
Anytime my man. That's why I'm here.
This is perfect, my actual next plane I’m looking at purchasing. Thank you!

Hey Jon. Great videos. This looks super shiny and I know there is a clear coat people are using now. Which one do you use? Thank you
Thanks Matt. I'm using Minwax Polycrylic gloss.

You'd have to unlock the receiver and reprogram it to get flaperons enabled correctly.
Have you figured out the replacement for that prop spinner (if you had to deal with it) ... they way the have that prop adapter, seems like the only spinned would be the factory replacement and they are out of stock. Anything you can suggest outside of replacing a motor?
Nope, we flew ours on the stock power system.

Great video as always! do you have a video that explains how you did the setup for Harrier Mix on the 300 D?
Thanks Rich! The harrier mix is in this video you commented on. 😉
@@TwoBrosRC 🤦♂️ I can’t believe I didn’t see that !
I love the plane but have trouble at high alpha. I will definitely change to flaperons.
Upward reflex on the ailerons should help a lot to stabilize it.
The other ones on TH-cam look flat, but this one looks shiny Did you spray it?
We used brushed-on Minwax gloss Polycrylic.
@@TwoBrosRC Thank you.
Would you recommend any different props size or pitch ?
Stock pitch and size is totally fine.
So I got one but it doesn’t fly good. The CG is waaaay back. Is that the case?
That would certainly be an issue. Balance it around the front of the canopy or slightly ahead of it.
@@TwoBrosRC I’ll add weight in the battery compartment then. I’ll try that. Thanks
The IX radios are compatible with the NX radios you’re just gonna lose your sound. When you transfer the file over
I have a DX8. When I try to load these files it says 81% Enumeration. Are these files compatible with my transmitter?
You'd need an IX radio to load my iSPM files.
@@TwoBrosRC I tried the spm file. Is that the same case?
The SPM files should load in a DX8 if you're on the latest firmware for your transmitter, I would imagine.
@@TwoBrosRC I’ll check the firmware. I did update it a few month’s ago maybe 6 months ago. Not sure how often they change the firmware.

Reprogram your ESC so the motor uses "normal" startup. Check your ESC manual.
So u used Minwax polycrylic you actually brushed that onto the entire plane is that why it’s so shiny and what does that do protect the foam it doesn’t add too much weight or anything bad
It adds minimal weight and gives it some protection, plus helps stiffen up the foam a little.
@@TwoBrosRC You’re able to do this with all the control services already intact it does not stick anything together
You brush around the hinge points and electronics.

The prop in this video is a Xoar 13x6.5 silver wood propeller, not an APC.

You like Xoar better than APC?
@@lvincentg In general, yes, but wood props are far more likely to break on impact so you've gotta be good at landing to avoid breaking them.
