@@FullBoltOnGarageI get my car into diagnostic mode. But the shutters do not open. I guess cuz the car is not getting as hot as being fully on. Once I get in diagnostic mode. Do I have to do something else for the shutters to open???
Hi, I got the U0284 on my inspection. If I was to remove them and get another inspection would it pass or will it still pop up? Thanks for the help

Hi! I have a 2021 m340i and was wanting to keep the shutters open, but not remove them entirely (I like the look of them open behind my dual alt grilles). Can I do something similar by just removing the arms to the motor pully and not cutting each of the shutters, and just leave them in an open position?
Yes. Matter of fact the whole assembly comes off and u can just disconnect the motor completely. No cutting no damage. Take apart, unplug, put back parts, code if u must. Dont deal.
I have a 2022 m550i I just installed rktunes front mounts and cut my shutters but left the center flaps hoping this would be good but now I have CEL … I live in Melbourne FL rite off 192. I was wondering if you could give me some guidance with this one. The CEL is killing the vibe bro 😫

Someone recommended to just leave the two inner flaps and cut the others. Will that work? Will it leave a code?

Yes but you'd have to remove the complete shutter system. There's a few screws that hold the mechanism in place. Unfortunately you'd need to remove the bumper for this.

I'm still getting the check engine light. Arms are in and comes on immediately after clearing upon start up. Does the position of the motor while messing with it affect giving a code?

@@damians8498 hey just checked with obd2 scanner and erased the code myself. Dont pay anyone😂 the scanners on sale for $20 on amazon
Can u just cut out the shutters , then take out the fuse for the shutters to open. And not cut the arms? Or by doing that will check engine light come on
Hi i did all that but i still get P05A9 code after reset with the scanner do i have to disconnect tge battery??
Maybe its the lower grill. It also has shutters that open and close
Came here because my flaps are broken, I was going to try to replace the flap and just found out removing it is an option. What’s the advantage or removing it and any downsides? More tiny rocks hitting your radiator?
More air flow for sure. I have never had a rock puncture issue or has anyone reported back. The look is also a main reason. These are useless in my opinion

I have a 2018 530i engine light on, dx pointing to the grill. Can this be done to fix that issue? Noticed the car sometimes have a rough crank, will all this solve that?
Lock there is maybe a small Stone in the Flaps, that’s why the Flapmotor can’t close it, and make the Enginelight on 🤟

Wow just wow isn’t much better to remove them properly then you have the option to refit them. Again at a later date
If I were to do thos I'd probably cut all but the two close to the grill just for the check engine light

I’m pretty sure you can just disconnect the power to the motors
And see check engine

This let's more airflow into the engine bay. Most shutters are also known to go bad and stay closed restricting air intake. This delete ensures that never happens. Safety for performance

@@FullBoltOnGarage : Had the active shutters on our 2012 535i w/92K miles and nary a problem. They also helped with mpg on long road trips.

Yessir unfortunately! Luckily ita easy to remove

If you are having this problem with a newer model Bmw the dealer has a warranty on these 10 years 150k miles. So it’s free to fix. My mechanic told me take it to the dealer 🙌

I bought a used 2018 540i in 20k miles, one of the flaps is broken so wondering if it would be under warranty although the factory warranty for the car expired.

what causes the problem or why do you cut them out
Overtime the motor will gooyt due to constant opening and closing. Some motors lose the teeth in the gears.
My 2017 bmw 540i is having that problem the check engine light comes on in that’s what it’s telling me it’s the shutters
Most likely your motor needs to be changed. Or it can be your shutter is stuck and won't allow the motor to turn!
The lower grill also has shutters

The video sound got low when you was talking about the engine light…my shutter giving problem from my G05 and it’s throwing engine light..but I rather delete it cause I think that shutter is pointless anyways

Repeatedly press the Start/Stop button 3 times quickly. Without stepping on the break

So I did it. On my g20 and the motor spinning around but still check engine light
Once you clear the codes it will go away.

They heat up faster when they are closed
The purpose of the flaps is to stay closed until it needs to be cooled down. Removing them would increase the time it takes to get heat.
Thanks for this tutorial. I completed this job with some craftsman diagonal pliers. It took 15 minutes.

@@93rak Hello, my friend. My shutters didn't open either. However, I used a small angle grinder to remove one blade on each side and then it was practically easy using the viedo instructions. After a while it was done!
