  • Making an IWB (inside the waist band) Leather Holster Smith and Wesson Model 642.
This is my first attempt at an IWB Holster and a revolver holster. I thought it turned out pretty well. The 9-10oz leather holds the shape well and has good retention. I would probably modify it to sit slightly lower if making future modifications to this design. Snaps would be better but I did not have any with long enough posts for this thick leather.
Included is a “rough draft” of the pattern I used.
PATTERN NOTES: If I was modifying it I would keep the same stitching line, however, I would adjust it so the gun rode 1/4” deeper in the holster and only use 1 Rivet or one snap.

This is my first attempt at an IWB revolver holster. It took me a few pattern sketches before I was satisfied. I am not a holster maker, however, I wanted to demonstrate that with basic hand tools someone could make their own holster.
I did have an accident while trying to dye the edges and ended up spilling it on the holster.
Be sure to look at the video description for questions you may have.

Any chance you can include a overlay caption of the tools you're using in each step. I am just starting in leather work and you're moving really fast lol. I have. A642 that I'm trying g to make a holster for but I want to make sure I'm not missing/skipping important steps.

I may try to make a few long build versions to follow along. I’m just learning how to edit video / audio so it takes me a long time to put a video together. I’ve kept most things short (high speed) because very few people stick around for more than 2 minutes. I carry this holster sometimes and I’d recommend leaving the reinforcement off the top and use a metal belt clip. Less bulk and easy off and on. Thank you for watching!

What's the purpose of the top stitched on piece? Just decorative? It looks bulky up top for IWB .

Helps to hold the shape/rigidity. You are correct it is bulky. Fine for OWB design though.
