Burnising leather Edges
Burnising leather Edges
In this video I show you one method I use to get a high shine burnish on vegetable tan leather edges.
Please note this is just one of many methods.
Start with a nice clean cut edge, Bevel and Sand. Be sure you do not skimp on the initial sanding as you are preparing your edge for a high shine.
I use pro dye on the edges but you can achieve this with just water.
If you are not looking for a high shine then stop when you are satisfied with what ever grit sand paper you like and finish the edge off with Tokonole and a bit of wax.
Be sure to check out my other videos and Thank you for watching!
Hope this helps.

Making an IWB (inside the waistband) Leather Holster Smith and Wesson 642
มุมมอง 3.8K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Making an IWB (inside the waist band) Leather Holster Smith and Wesson Model 642. This is my first attempt at an IWB Holster and a revolver holster. I thought it turned out pretty well. The 9-10oz leather holds the shape well and has good retention. I would probably modify it to sit slightly lower if making future modifications to this design. Snaps would be better but I did not have any with l...
Making a lined LEATHER wallet - FREE pdf

This video features making a lined 2 slot leather wallet. This slim or minimalist wallet was designed to hold around 6 - 10 credit cards with cash folded up in the center. The PDF Pattern link is included below. It was designed to be made slightly larger then trimmed down 3-5mm off of each side, before stitching. The dashed lines are for the "trim allowance". Final dimensions should be around 1...

What's the purpose of the top stitched on piece? Just decorative? It looks bulky up top for IWB .
Helps to hold the shape/rigidity. You are correct it is bulky. Fine for OWB design though.
That wooden hammer though 😂😂
Thought my brother in law showed up to leave this comment.. Haha yes I never finished it.
Clean.
can you tell please what do you use for the cmc pasta? the precise doses ...
Did you use a scissors to edge skive?
Wtf I love your technique for rounded corners!
Are you located in Somerton Arizona?
No a small town in GA. Combined the names of my hometown and my wife’s.
Me encantó 💖
Thank you!
nicely done!
Thank you!
🤗 Super chouette, merci beaucoup pour le patron 😍
Thank you for watching!
very nice 👍
Thank you!
What is the electric tool called?
It’s called an edge creaser or fileteuse. It’s used to leave a decorative crease in the leather, as well as heat up edge paint and a few other tasks. Thanks for watching!
@@SomertonLeather you used it to create a groove then stitched in the groove?
@@justray510 on this wallet yes. I think it’s called a Y2 tip. I’d not recommend it as it is too close to the edge. A Y3 or larger would be better. It was a new tip so costly experiment but I do like how it can leave a nice crease on folded pockets just off the edge.
@@SomertonLeather I have an adjustable creaser and a mini butane torch, I'll experiment with your idea. Thanks.
Any chance you can include a overlay caption of the tools you're using in each step. I am just starting in leather work and you're moving really fast lol. I have. A642 that I'm trying g to make a holster for but I want to make sure I'm not missing/skipping important steps.
I may try to make a few long build versions to follow along. I’m just learning how to edit video / audio so it takes me a long time to put a video together. I’ve kept most things short (high speed) because very few people stick around for more than 2 minutes. I carry this holster sometimes and I’d recommend leaving the reinforcement off the top and use a metal belt clip. Less bulk and easy off and on. Thank you for watching!
nice
Thank you!
Thanks for the pattern. Saludos desde México, Méx.
Thank you!
Learned some techniques I can use for my next project! Would love to see more. Awesome work right there! 👏👏👏
Thank you! I’m hoping to put more tutorials together.
Just curious why you use water vs tokenol. I’m a noob and don’t know when to use what? Also what grit sandpaper is best? Thanks !
Water or dye burnishes just fine for my needs. Start sanding around 320-400 grit, move to 600, 800. 1500 will start the polish. You can finish with tokonole and a canvas cloth or start using tokonole once you have to edges dyed as it could block the dye. (I think there is a wax in it) most new people do more rubbing with a stick and not enough sanding. Sanding gets you the high shine on the edge. I’m not sure if this video shows that. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this video.
Thank you!
Beautiful work!! Thanks for sharing! G
Thank you for the kind words!
Fantastic video. I have learned so much from watching enough that I want to give it a try! Thank you for sharing
That’s great! Thank you for watching.
CONGRATS to Karen McCoy!! You were chosen as the winner and can see your name being drawn on my instagram channel. Thank you to everyone who participated! I have gained some good insight from this and have some videos planned for the future. Thank you everyone! -Bryan
I love your craftsmanship! Excellent video. I like the short version to watch, however, if I should decide to make an item, I would want a video that shows step by step! Your videos show just how much detail you do to make your leather items! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Since I am just learning about the world of handmade leather products it would be great to have details on how to get started in this hobby or as a business. By trade I am a Graphic Designer with over 25 years in the printing industry and personalizing products. Your products are the type items that would add a unique and high quality product to my Personalized Gift'n Boutique. I'd even pay for a zoom class if offered just to learn the basics as to how to get started. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of this craft.
Thank you! I'm going to put together a beginner series soon. I'm not sure about the business side of things yet, but maybe one day I can do small batches of items.
Nice idea! I definetly prefer longer more in depth videos. I really would like to see a men's bag
Penny you will have to give me an example of a bag. I wouldn’t mind making a roll top or leather backpack. I may try a long tutorial at some point. Thanks for the input!
@@SomertonLeather i was thinking about a brief-case style, maybe a "refined" type, not like Saddleback (there are plenty already), more like Carl friedrik style. Have a good day :)
Penny thank you!
It would help beginners if you explained the prepuse of what you’re doing.....like using the wood to hold the leather as you remove the chisel......tips and tricks to make a nice project.....I like your down home charm
Turtle 🤘 Thanks for the input! I’ll that in mind moving forward.
I am more interested to see instruction videos on you methods and techniques Maybe like you last video with a voice over explaining your decisions
Thank you, great idea!
Excellent idea! I was thinking about doing giveaways too but I have yet to make another video By the way, do you get your leather from Rmleathersupply too? Do you have a favorite type of leather? I’ve been using Minerva, Pueblo and Buttero but I am considering switching to Wickett and Craig (because it’s good quality and far cheaper than Minerva / Buttero...about $10/sqfoot if you buy a hide). However, it feels a bit like cardboard, especially their English Bridle. Any thoughts on Wickett and Craig?
It takes me hours to get a video together, you keep making them too! I mostly buy from RMleathersupply as well. I'm not sold on a favorite type yet but Buttero ranks high and Alran Chevre Sully is thus far my favorite liner but does stretch easily. I like Wickett and Craig but I find it tricky deciding what to buy. I just got 2-3oz black bridle in, split and inside re finished. It's not as ridged as buttero and has been tricky to work with as its almost too soft without a liner or multiple layers. Their skirting around 3oz 1-1.2mm has been amazing. Very dry, but takes a great patina and does not scratch as easily as Buttero. I have made a ton of stuff with their skirting in different weights. Watch for the skirting double shoulders on sale if you are on their email list.
Great job Bryan!
Thanks so much for Watching! Be sure to subscribe and let me know what you think of the video format? I appreciate constructive feedback. This is my first attempt at an IWB revolver holster. It took me a few pattern sketches before I was satisfied. I am not a holster maker, however, I wanted to demonstrate that with basic hand tools someone could make their own holster. I did have an accident while trying to dye the edges and ended up spilling it on the holster. Be sure to look at the video description for questions you may have. -Bryan
@@jeffallen3382 Thanks for following! I just have to laugh at all the mistakes I make along the way.
Очень здорово!
Спасибо! Thank you!
Great shooting angles! Btw, that’s one bad ass mallet!
It's just an oak log I started shaping. It works better than the mallet I have though!
nice video mate
Thank you! New video coming very soon.
thank u so much been looking for a pattern like this :)
You are welcome!
Very clean work!
