After nearly 20 years in Subaru land I am finally back in a 2023 Forester Premium, after moving through the Premium, Limited and Touring trim levels over the years, which used to be all we could get (except Base!) Why? Premium (in my book) is generally the best value across Subaru’s entire model lineup, and represents a really nice upgrade from rather Spartan “Base” Trim level. The Limited was nice mainly because I had to have built in Nav and mistakenly did not get it on my 2016 Premium while I could!!! The Touring was Crystal White with Saddle leather, and was the prettiest Subaru I have had, who I lovingly named “Blanca” - but honestly I just did not use most of the extra features it came with, except Nav. Now that I drive 4-5000 miles/yr I just could not justify the $12,000 spread. So in the 2 months since getting my Premium in Cascade Green Silica, I just hit 500 miles woo hoo! I weaned myself from built in Nav and finally tried Apple Car Play, and love it! Lastly what is with all this Chrome Trim on Subaru’s???!!! Sorry guys but the chrome trimmed Fog light guards are a rock chip away from crapping up a $41,000 car, and are just too much for my basic tastes! I have been a BMW guy since my first 1984 318i (Savannah Beige), and still think the most beautifully designed cars rely on great lines not garish embellishments.
    Michael Albuquerque NM USA
PS I have the unlimited car wash plan and I finally USE IT on this lovely Cascade Green Silica Premium Forester!!!

Alex, great video as always. We are both getting close to the 1yr anniversary of owning our 2023 Outbacks. I actually have about 4100 miles on mine. I have totally enjoyed my Touring XT. However there are feature that I either do not use at all or use infrequently. I never use the folding mirrors and have the auto feature disabled. I very infrequently use the ventilated seat. I must state the acoustic glass used in the trim level makes the cabin extremely quiet. I am very pleased with my Touring XT, and have no misgivings about the purchase.

I have 2024 Touring as a loaner while my 2008 Outback is in for maintenance. I love this car! The acoustic glass sound proofing is wonderful. Most of the extras I wouldn’t use but it’s really nice to have a backup camera, leather seats, security/warning lights. I won’t have it long enough to figure out all of the programming on the dash. Glad I found your channel.

Very informative! I just bought a 2023 Forester Wilderness Edition in June and while I’m definitely more focused on your Forester content, it’s really cool to learn about the brand as a whole (I had only owned vehicles from GM up until now) and I definitely learned a few things today from this one (examples include the monocular lens third camera, the smart rearview digital mirror (would love to have that), the driver, focus system, and the location of the CD player in this trim level). Was definitely worth the watch. Have a good Sunday 🤠

I'm late to the game, but I find in Feb 2024 that there are no packages available for the models when I search and try to build an Outback. But what a great video. I learned about the refresh of the front end, and what the digital smart mirror does - something I would have passed on as the cars salesman here in Utah did not explain it to me. Very confused by some of Subaru's trim choices though.... like why is the 180-degree front-view camera not available on the Limited, and why do only a couple trims get the full size spare.... It's your videos convincing me to get a Subaru.

set of holes the back one wont click (lock) into the straight position am I supposed to use the front bar on the back position ? Or is there something wrong with my roof rack ? I may not live long enough to learn everything that the trim level I have does much less a touring level . Also my car's
X-Mode only seems to have one mode and don't have the choice for snow dirt , deep snow and deep mud . Is there any way to lock all 4 wheels

What do you guys think of the 2.5i engine? I just received my 2023 Outback a few days ago. It’s an awesome car but I took it out on the highway last night and I’ve gotta say, it kinda feels underpowered. I am no racer but do like to have some additional power there when it’s needed.
I would have gone with the 2.4 XT engine but in my region of Europe they don’t sell that engine for some reason.

QUESTION? Alex, I own a 1999 Forester with nearly 200K miles ……. and in great running shape. I recently had to have the starter replaced. Since that repair, the security anti-theft system goes off randomly. The siren alarm sounds for about 15 seconds and then shuts off. I have confirmed that other car key fobs (Ford and GM) will trigger the alarm. I have tried to use posted TH-cam guidance to reset/disarm the system, but with no remedy. I do not use a key fob any longer for this vehicle. Any suggestions to remedy? I would be okay with a permanent disarming. Thanks?

The padding on the seat bottom for the ventilation seems a lot thinner than my old 2015 Limited. The insulated glass is nice, but I would rather have the beige interior. The baby diaper content brown...is just not that attractive.

Have 7569 miles on touring 22 model year old this month. No issues had the info updated at dealership. Thanks to Alex video on that ! No regrets went from a 2017 Honda to the Outback.
Better vehicle seat are more comfortable than Honda and the overall vehicle has a lot going for it. Yes it cost more than the Honda and I was going to buy a Passport in 22 . But after the Honda dealership was going to mark up the passport by 2 k went with the Outback more for the money. Plus to tell you that I had a new Honda every three years Honda lost a long term customer. Outback wagon is a clear value Touring 2.5 more than enough power. Gas mileage isn't as good in the Outback only issue with my purchase. Honda 37 HWY. Outback. 35 HWY. But the comfortable seats are a big plus. Honda seats are horrible.

Apparently the seat bottoms are uncomfortable for a lot of folks. I rode in a 2022 Outback a few weeks ago. I sat in the front passenger seat for two hours and my butt got very uncomfortable. In older models this was not an issue. Could it be the cooling comments I am feeling?

Hey Mark! Sorry for the confusion. The 2020 - 2023 will have the same seat design. I haven't heard of any complaints for the latest seat design. I've actually had people share their preference for the newer seat design compared to the 2019 and prior. Of course, everyone will have their own opinion based on their own preferences. Have you tried adjusting the seat base extension or the lumbar support? I would start there. You could also turn the cooling seats off if that feels weird.

I wasn't looking for a new car so I didn't buy it, or even test drive it, but I really liked the color. I couldn't stop thinking about it and I decided to buy it a week or so later. Lucky for me it was still available. I think the color is beautiful, especially when the sun is shining on it.

I have a 2023 Outback Touring. I absolutely love the car but have one complaint. It came with the wireless charger but the charger is pretty much worthless. I recently took a road trip and used my iphone's navigation with my phone on the charger all day. After an 11 hour drive, my phone was down to 40% charged even though it sat on the charger all day. Kind of sucks to pay for a charger that doesn't actually work.

I had the same problem with my 2023 Outback Wilderness and now the same problem with the 2023 Outback Touring XT. The phone got so hot in the Wilderness that I couldn’t use the charger. In the Touring XT the charging capability of the charger could not keep pace with the Apple Maps while using it. Therefore, I ran the charging cable from the 12 volt socket in the glove box to my iPhone 13 and just keep it plugged in all the time. People on the Subaru Outback forums express the same problems with the charging pad. I have even tried removing the otter box holder, to no avail.

I really like your videos. I watch them all. I didn't like this one as much. Too much switching between cars and years. It became confusing. Just wait until you have the cars you want to compare.

I appreciate the info! Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of having every trim level here in the model I'd like. When inventory levels out, that will be more possible. Thank you for watching!

Looking to finally get into an Outback Touring XT in the next few months to replace our 2007 Cobalt. Wanting it for the creature comforts and a solid AWD vehicle for the minor snow and slop we seem to get in our area. One item I wish Subaru would let us option out is blacked out window trim surrounds, side view mirrors and roof rails like the Onyx trim has. Also would love a blacked out interior option from the belt line and up also like the Onyx edition. I know the parts are there and available but having those options would be nice to have. Right now our biggest decision is color. I'm loving Magnetite Gray Metallic but Cosmic Blue Peral looks good as well.

It's not necessary to have these many trims and options when the difference is so miniscule to the untrained eyes of Subaru....

I have a 2022 outback touring, I took delivery in November 2021 and I cannot believe how much it is depreciated only been two years old over $10,000, I also have a 2022 WR ex Limited that I got last year in July little over a year old it also lost $10,000 in value not very happy losing that much money on vehicles.

Don't know where you're getting your numbers, but it sounds like a real crock to me. My dealership has been periodically soliciting me to buy my '22 Outback Limited since I took delivery in July '21, and they STILL haven't come close to the $10k depreciation mark in a straight up, cash offer.

I'd encourage you to get more than one offer to get a better idea on the current value. Most Subarus hold their value well if they are taken care of. Yes, they will depreciate, but you shouldn't see a big hit like you may see on other manufactures.

Man, when you compare trims, use sane year models. Your video is totally irrelevant. Speech and visual cues only work with the audience if they are IDENTICAL.

  • @BBlackmen

Correct, I mention that in the video. The comparison between the Limited and Touring still holds true.
