The most UNBELIEVABLE bowling score on TV?! PBA Bowling Rewind

  • There are certain scores in bowling that are incredibly rare, such as a 291 or 292 game. While it’s technically possible and I’m sure there are people out there who have done it, it's still incredibly unlikely. In this video we are going to look at one of the most "unusual" scores bowled on a PBA telecast.
The man who achieved this was Anthony Pepe and it took place during 2014 Cheetah Championship at that years World Series of Bowling. I breakdown the entire game as well as the title match that followed.

292 is harder than 291. I remember watching Anthony Pepe's 295. I think the 5 count is better than leaving a ringing 10 pin.

I think it is easier since you can hit the 1 pin and still leave the 7 and 10 pins. We should take into account that bowlers who would be doing this are high level bowlers and they would most likely hit the 1 pin on the last shot

Former PBA Tour winner Kent Wagner has the full set (290-300). All ABC/USBC sanctioned.

This and everyone in the comments are wrong. The rarest game in history happened in 1905 by a fellow named James Blackstone in Seattle. His 12th ball he had a pin split in half and the half remained standing. This was when the pins was all real wood and most likely the ball too. Although that was the same year the first rubber ball came out. This was a time that 300's was almost impossible. Anyone rolling 300's with wooden or rubber balls was one hell of a bowler. I have had several in the last few years just because the game has gotten so much easier than when I started in 1999. New bowlers don't know how good they have it!

As for other memorable telecasts to break down (as you mentioned at the end of the video), here's two that I've thought of:
    1. The 1997 St. Clair Classic; the final ABC Sports telecast of the PBA tour. I've watched it here on TH-cam, Chris Schenkel could barely keep his composure during the broadcast.
    2. The 1995 Northwest Classic. John Handegard becomes the oldest (57 years, 55 days old) person to win a PBA tour event defeating four Hall of Famers (Mike Aulby, Norm Duke, Bryan Goebel and Mark Williams) in the process. Imagine how difficult it would be to bowl a 291 if that was your GOAL, like if there was a special prize of a million dollars for bowling it in a tournament. Your first 11 shots all have to be strikes but then the final shot you have to nick just one edge pin. If you are not careful you will either get a gutter ball or accidentally nick another pin and get 292 or more. I actually think getting a strike is EASIER than being required to get just one pin so it would be in my humble opinion MORE difficult than getting 300.

People are right saying 292 would be the hardest score. You’d have to chop the 4-7 or the 6-10 without tapping the 8 or the 9, or without kicking the 4 or the 6 sideways and clearing the middle of the rack. Or you could always snatch the 7-10 out of a full rack 😂 Easy enough, right.

I have a nine pin no tap 295 game went dead flush and got nine or strike on all the front 11 but then for number 12 the ball just didn’t grab through it in the perfect spot. The ball just didn’t grab it and then it grabbed and it left me with a Greek church for 295

291 is easy. There's been several 292s now; most are attempted. Go through the baby split and take out the 6-9 (which I've done unintentionally on a strike ball). Some have picked the 6-10 off or the 4-7, but that is incredihard.

292 is more rare than a 900 series

I disagree in saying that any 290+ score is the hardest to attain on TV. You play a ton and enough, and any of the 290's are achievable. Each one of them can only be attained 1 possible way: 11 strikes then getting however many pins you need in the ones column. There's only one score below 290 can be attained in only one possible way, and that score, you will NEVER see on TV. That score is 0! Even a three-year-old can keep one of twenty balls on the lane to score at least one. So to say that anything other than zero is the most unbelievable bowling score on TV is a lie.
