  • Review of the Wooting 60HE along with a comparison to the apex pro mini. The 60HE is a pretty big improvement over the full sized Two HE and my new main keyboard (shocking)

    Steelseries Apex Pro Mini amzn.to/3ApvMzb (amazon aff link)
    These are some of the fastest keyboards on the market, but wooting is much more feature packed for a similar price. If you play fortnite tho, there wont be a massive difference and the apex pro mini has better availability.

    I also believe that you can still customize the wooting with diff cases, keycaps, change the stabs, it’s “hotswap” and also I think that you can change the springs, but not the stem since the magnet is inside the stem of the switch. You can do lots with industry leading tech.

    I'm currently on my 3rd apex pro mini in 2 weeks and still received a board with firmware issues. At least all the keys work on this one. been chatting back and forth with SteelSeries to get it resolved for the second Time in two weeks with no resolve yet. I did pre order a Wooting 60HE after seeing good reviews on it so hopefully that board will resolve my issues because SteelSeries is not cutting it at all for a $240 board.

    Edit: The moment Wooting releases a 75% version of their keyboards with a knob i'll consider them but 60% is a big no for me, i use the FN keys way to much outside of games (and even in some games too).

      But the Wooting has a Mod Tap feature that makes arrow keys essentially useless. at 3:42 even Boardzy explains how to use arrow keys without the FN key. Also personally, from using a GMMK pro, the knob is very useless and mostly there for aesthetics purposes. You can just set a key to turn down volume or just turn down volume on my headset instead.

    From what I’ve heard they only have the lighter springs available as themselves and you have to open your switches and swap out the springs yourselves. I have asked them about producing switches with the lighter springs but they said they don’t have plans for that rn.

    • @WARnTEA
      @WARnTEA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Since they are halleffect the switches should be very easy to open and changed the springs yourself since the keys aren’t soldered to the board.
      They are only providing the springs to make people happy because hall effect keyboards need to use a special non magnetic spring. So modders can’t easily get their hands on lighter springs for the wooting.
      In reality, Wootings heavier springs are ideal for 99% of users. The heavier springs are necessary to allow for the analog feature of the switches. The heavier springs really don’t hurt competitive gamers because of adjustable actuation point and rapid trigger. The heavier weight also helps prevent misclicks when running a low actuation point.

    • @FearlessP4P1
      @FearlessP4P1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I assume they could have done testing and thought 60g was the best, but heavier springs are not needed for the Hall effect switches to function. The apex pro mini proves that. You could argue that its necessary to minimize miss clicks, but you’ll get used to it. If you want something heavier stay away from a “gaming” keyboard. Who knows the competitive impact of 60g vs 45g springs, but I’d want 45g for peace of mind lol. I’ve tried 35g and 68g switches and I’d say a range of 40-50 is best for a competitive keyboard.

    • @FearlessP4P1
      @FearlessP4P1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @CrankyManager youre right thanks for the correction. I think boardzy got that wrong too?

      @@FearlessP4P1 they aren't heavy at all, just not as light on the apex

    • @WARnTEA
      @WARnTEA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FearlessP4P1 The Apex Pro Mini doesn't prove anything, that keyboard doesn't have analog functionality. Also, the spring weight is misleading. Yes its 60g to bottom out the switch but the actuation point isn't at the bottom of the switch. There are many different spring designs and depending on the manufacturer they will operate differently, a 60g spring might only take 10g of force to depress a key 1mm, and a 40g spring might take 15g to depress 1mm. In that hypothetical scenario, the 60g spring is better competitively if the actuation point is set to 1mm. Spring typically are easy to depress at the top and get harder to press the more compressed they get. The only potential negative you could derive from the spring weight is if you think that 60g would be fatiguing from bottoming out the keys. However one could also argue that over time the heavier bottom out will strengthen you fingers and improve the speed it takes for you to hit the actuation point and the rate of fatigue will equalize when you body gets used to it and builds some muscle. You could also argue that with rapid trigger that the user should learn to stop bottoming out every key. I assume you weren't talking about fatigue though, and just about light springs being faster and more accurate feeling.

      @@imboomzy they basically did a kickstarter first, so by waiting he is getting a huge discount on the keyboard I think it was $30 cheaper to pre-order it.
      The Wooting guys have always planned to keep the keyboard in stock, so other than supply chain issues or insane demand, normal people should be able to buy it directly from Wooting sometime within the next year.
      By comparison there is one other hall effect keyboard project called Input Club’s Keystone that announced and took preorders 3 years ago and it hasn’t been produced yet.
      The pandemic really screwed up lots of companies, the price of components going through the roof due to lack of supply. Wooting said their microcontroller went up to $100, obviously it would be impossible for them to make a keyboard if just one part cost $100. They moved to a new microcontroller and are rewriting their code for it.
      The wooting guys are really great, they are refreshingly transparent with updates, telling exactly whats happened, everytime there has been a hiccup, as well as even telling people when they finally became stable enough as a company to finally start paying theirselves.
      Wooting is definitely a company worth supporting, and it doesn’t hurt that they also make a good product.

    The springs are perfect, springs are chosen by the amount of feedback they have gotten. Why anyone wants to go with lighter springs makes no sense, 60g is perfect for control, and makes the analog feature usable. too light springs and gl using the analog feature, if u don't want to press the key all the way down.
    Coming from Wooting One, I returned the Apex keyboard on day 1 of getting it. too light imo.
    The Wooting two is in my opinion the best keyboard out there. and the 60 keyboard can easily be modded, as that was one of their goals to choose a standardized 60% layout and build it around there.

    • @nomecognome5050
      @nomecognome5050 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      spring weight force is just preference, depends on what you're used to, gateron makes switches with springs as low as 30g bottom out, that means someone is buying them. Not everyone buys this keyboard for the analog feature alone, that's the last reason I would say, and even if you need to use analog, ligher springs don't make any difference on its usability if you're used to the force required to press it. It's like driving someone else's car

    • @WARnTEA
      @WARnTEA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ezioauditore1588 It shouldn’t have less latency. ARM and AVR are both built on RISC, the main difference is that AVR is a proprietary microcontroller produced by one company, and due to that it is limited to 32bit and in total memory capacity, because microcontrollers have everything including memory apart of its package. ARM by contrast is produced by many people and it is a Microprocessor meaning that memory has to be connected to it externally. However ARM can do 64bit and can connect a lot of memory for cheaper.
      The main difference is that the ARM version of Wooting will have more memory, meaning that they will have more space for custom keybinds. Thats it.
      Keyboards aren’t complicated. They don’t need more powerful microchips. Thats why most keyboards have stuck with AVR. The only reason the industry is moving to ARM is because they are becoming cheaper than AVR.

    are they releasing a tkl version soon

    • @WARnTEA
      @WARnTEA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not soon. Right now they are switching microcontrollers over to ARM and are rewritting all of their code for it., they gave 60he buyers the choice of getting their keyboard now or waiting for the ARM version. They predict that their code should be ready sometime by the end of the year. The reason they are switching is that they can’t get supply of the old microcontroller and the prices have gone way up due to the pandemic.
      So a TKL version is at least a year away. I assume they will release a TKL version eventually since their first keyboard was TKL.

      Personally you wouldn't need the 65% as the features such as Dynamic Keystroke or ModTap allow for the use of the arrow keys and mod keys on one of the two function keys. For instance my ModTap allows two actions to one key; tap for action1 and hold for action2 - arrow keys are on 'tap' right shift, function, ctrl and menu where holding them causing them to act as their normal keys
