    Oh Philippa, that's brilliant and for a first attempt and just winging it , I'm so impressed. You have definitely inspired me to have a go. I can't believe how reasonably priced the Heidi feathers kits are too. I seriously need some bigger and better storage solutions to fit all of my current and future wool in 😁. Thanks for sharing this.

      @@feltsbyphilippa if only (for felting, not everything else; there are great suppliers in the US is what I mean to say)
      I'm in Austria.
      I don't know anyone who makes kits here.
      Planning my first course (which will be a long while away) and thinking about the materials I am going to get for that.
      I want to include little "what have we learned today" leaflets with information about wool, needles etc. And the basics so people can actually go, buy wool and use the instructions to make whatever they feel like.
      A list of places to shop should also be included, but some beginners might not feel comfortable after one course and if they could get a kit somewhere inside the country, it would be helpful.
      Probably overthinking it... It's in the early planning stages. I would just like people to get lasting value out of the course. (even if it is that felting is not the right thing for them).

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be amazing for beginners and put them onto a really good start, the leaflet shouldn't take too long and they would go away with something they would keep with your name on, a great idea, keep going with the plans especially if no one else offers it xx

    Love it Pippa. I've tried 2d pictures several times and thrown them in the bin in frustration. I've used carded though, is merino better? I had 2 kits from Border Felts but passed them on thinking i'll never get the hang of it.

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dawn, I think carded is probably easier to felt down but merino colours are so diverse in colour and relatively cheap as you only need tiny amounts. I liked the border felts as they are quite small but I kept this simple, sky, grass, two hills then sheep. Really enjoyed this as the frame makes it but a hoop would be good too x

    Philippa, this looks amazing. I can hardly wait until after Christmas to get started on 2D felting. You make it look SO easy and SO fun! My question: is there any particular reason you chose the orange pre felt? I can see that if you plan to use mostly light colored wools you would want to use a light colored pre felt and a dark one if you were going to use mostly dark wools. Beyond that, are there any reasons to choose one color over another for the pre felt? Thanks.

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, no, no reason other than it was what I had spare lying around, you can use whatever colour you want to but yes, lighter colours would be best under lighter wools, good luck when you try it, I really enjoyed it and it's not as scary as I thought it would be xx

Can you give some advice on the best way to sit comfortably without getting any back pain or just ways to be comfortable when felting for hours on end. Also, how often to take a break and a recommendation of the type of chair you use. Thanks in advance Philippa. 🐈

    Hi 😂Philippa and thank you for this tutorial - you make it seem so easy!! I haven’t done any 2D yet but have already been warned off prefelt, but don’t understand why, apart from being told to use pure wool craft felt. I am just wondering if it is because prefelt is not very strong and might go out of shape too easily but, if this is the case, this is why you doubled it to avoid that? I am about to start a memorial picture for my partner. I got some good quality craft felt for it but would be grateful for your advice before I start, it is going to be approximately 10” x 14” (if I ever get it started! ).

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, yes, that's exactly why, it definitely stretches easily but doubling up will help. However with the size you are doing I would go wool felt to make sure when you pull it off the mat, it doesn't stretch and distort the picture. I do smaller pictures with two layers of prefelt just to use it up and they are ok. Hope you do start it and it goes well xx

      @@feltsbyphilippa Thank you so much for your reply and for explaining it so well - I’m sure others will come along now and benefit from the information too! I have started this as my first needle felting project. I bought the starter kit but when I pulled the pre felt off the pad lumps of the pad came with it, the surface of the pad has worked into the will fibres on the reverse side. Can I trim this off on the reverse of will I then loose the fibre from the front? Have I overfelted? I don't think I used enough w ool initially and after felting there were areas I could see the pre felt so I did another layer and went over it again. Hope you can advise.

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, yes you can trim it but you will probably have to refelt some off the front to make sure it stays together. My mat was very new so maybe that helped it not pull off. I would suggest pulling your work off the mat every so often so it doesn't stick so much or use two layers of prefelt or a layer of something else so the mat sticks to that, hope it is OK xx
