    I just got to try needle felting for the first time today. I've been going through a lot and immediately fell in love with it. My sister pulled up one of your videos so I could watch as I was messing with it all. I enjoyed your first video so much I made sure to find you! I can't wait to see what I can learn and hopefully make!

    OMGosh Philippa 😲 I just found you and I will be Needle Felting very soon 😊 I will be moving in 5 days to another city because my daughter (only child) and son-in-law are expecting their first and most likely their last child. And because my husband passed away very suddenly in January and I can't afford to stay in our home. I have had to pack and sell furniture alone for the most part because of Covid and while packing I realized that I can't keep all of my crafting supplies (I was into journal and book making which requires A LOT of paper of different types etc.)
    My kids have generously asked me to move into their basement which has absolutely everything that I need, because I have MS and I am truly grateful. ** I truly apologize for all of the rambling! 😔
    So in what little time I had to relax I came apon videos of needle felting and I was hooked right away.
    So I have given away most of my other craft supplies and I am excited to begin something new!
    I have already purchased all of my supplies (minus the paddles), and I have watched quite a few tutorials, but YOU are by far the BEST of them all!!
    I absolutely L♥️VE the in depth information that you provide and your voice is very soothing!
    I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am that I found YOU and your Channel ❣️😊
    Thank you so very much for sharing your incredible talent and wisdom for Needle Felting 😘

    Excellent source of knowledge!! I've been felting for a few years but only simple projects like snowman & owls & pumpkins. But I really want to advance my skills so that I can make more advanced animals (& eventually 2D art & pendants). Despite already having some basic knowledge of felting, I still gained SO much from a review of ALL tools & the very many types of various needles! Next, I'll watch the wools tutorials. I started felting more by trial & error, following an in-person class. So going back & watching these in depth descriptions of all the basics, is SO helpful. I learned so much! She does an excellent job at explaining everything in a way that is clear & attainable for all. Well done!! Thank you!!

    This is very helpful-I’ve been needle felting for a good while and she offers tips I wish I’d had from the get-go. Did not know I could buy eyes so I make my own with polymer clay with a wire anchor embedded. Works great if you want to try it. The clay allows me to make different eye colors to add a bit of whimsy. I plan to watch her other videos.

    Loved this video. I knew most of the stuff about the needles but I've really been wanting to see the different mat options and the tools, and this did not disappoint. I actually made my own felting mat after I started to get annoyed by my sponge one. I didn't wet felt it; I made it way harder on myself and needle felted the thing. lol. It was in 0 ways efficient, but I honestly really like it. I made it small enough to fit in my purse so I can bring it with me, though I'm thinking about making it a bit bigger now that I've been felting little bags. I will say, it's super functional but it is absolutely not pretty. :D It's lumpy and divited in quite a few places. But not so badly that it impacts my work. Making it was kind of like a meditation; 3 days of just zoneing out and felting, and I only had to spend enough money to get the wool.
    That was a super, super long round-about way to say thank you for delivering such awesome content; it makes noobs like me feel safer to experiment with more solid foundations.

    thanks for so generously sharing your knowledge about needle felting! given the videos ive watched on painting by way of this technique, it seems like a work on canvas may only be achieved if the desired image falls within a painterly look dominated by blurry edges, colour blended brushstrokes and other fuzzy outcomes.
    what about graphic shapes with hard edges? or lines? are there any techniques for needle felting that will help the maker realize a graphic black and white silhouette-style image?
    i have sourced a few black and white clip art-style icons to transfer to a canvas and am wondering if i would be better off working with cross stitching or embroidery. i really like the concept of needle felting but im worried the effect im after is going to prove incompatible with the technique. would you have a moment to offer your thoughts on this?
    thank you again ;)

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching, you may have to find a 2d felter for your question. I have done a few flat felts but not many. I would say embroidery will be easier for the straight edges and save you time. Lines are possible but take a while to tidy up xx

      @@feltsbyphilippa My kit came in today. Lots of little bits of wool, 36 colors of 5 grams, so perfect for making something small i guess. Unfortunatly the needles are not marked at all. I got 10 of them, one was in the wooden holder. It was stuck inside really bad so with trying to pull it out i already managed to stab my thumb which is now bleeding and decorated with a bandaid. Will have to try and figure out what kind the needles are and mark them in some way myself. Maybe i put a bit of bandaid tape on them so i can write T, S, or C on them for triangle, spiral and crown needles. With the help of your video's i should be able to figure out what is what. And for now just number them 1-2-3 and so on for the sizes. Anyhow, i can start today ♥

      If it doesn't smell too bad and it felts well then yes. If the wool is quite coarse it might be harder to felt but just try it out, I wash my wool three times and that is normally enough times to get the dirt out x

    The blue needle holder that you can't get that end off? I have it, too. I worked and worked at getting that top off, and finally it came right off. Now it doesn't stick on so firmly. Keep trying! And, thank you for these excellent videos. I have been making polymer clay characters but I am changing to needle felted ones with clay heads or just clay faces & ears.

    I thought the pad should be synthetic so the your project does not stick to it. So if your pad is wool, won’t it fuse to your project? Thanks!

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately wool sticks to every felting surface you try, the wool pad has already been fused (matted) together so it's not too bad but still happens. Regular turning and shallow stabs are the best way to avoid your item sticking to your mat x

    Thank you for the info! One question: do these needles get blunt over time, or is potential breakage the main factor in replacing them? And if they do get blunt, how can one tell when it's nearing the end of its lifespan?

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I find honestly my needles don't get blunt, I'm more likely to break one and I use them nearly every day. My needles are heidifeathers so good quality. Other people disagree and feel needles can get blunt. They should definitely last a year or two in my opinion. You just have to compare a new needle to an old one to work to see if it feels smoother and felts faster, thanks for watching xx
