    Now that we've had a few days to assess the impact of rescued pods on the course of the war, it's safe to say that this new mechanic is a game changer. If I understand it correctly, pod rescues contribute to progress in every Counter-Strike system (or is actually every Controlled system?) within a certain range of a particular Titan. In just this first weekly tick with the new mechanic, the Goids are set to lose control of over 20 systems, four of which were previously untouchable barnacle matrix systems. That's huge! I do wish the monetary reward for pod rescue was correspondingly high and the bar for doing rescues a bit lower. Given the enormous effect it has on the war, however, maybe it makes sense for pod rescue to be "end-gamey" in its level of access and difficulty.

    • @paulreckner1806
      @paulreckner1806 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My bad - meant to say "the Goids are set to lose control of over 20 systems AROUND THE INDRA MAELSTROM ALONE, four of which were previously untouchable barnacle matrix systems." In fact, with about 6 hours left in the tick it's looking like 24 control systems cleared around Indra. Apologies for leaving out that little detail!

    Updated thoughts. Previously I have commented (and I stand by those comments) where I said this was a very fair assessment of Titan ‘mining’. But, I also said I would have a go (there’s nothing worse than someone who just criticises something and then follows up with- nothing new for me so I’m not going to bother trying. Actually there are worse comments but let’s not go there!)So, I have had a go and thanks to the build of another commander’s suggestion (a Tanky, shielded, engineered for heat imperial cutter). And it was very successful. Was it hard? Yes. Did I have to engineer? Yes. Was it relaxing like normal mining? No. Not one bit. But it was fun. And here’s my last thought about this: can new players do this? No. No they can’t. You need a tanky ship (an anaconda would also do and there are other successful builds out there). You do need to engineer (I don’t mind collecting materials and doing this but I know others loathe engineering). But, fighting thargoids has always been the end game content. And fdev did make that easier and more accessible for new players- I loved that and didn’t have to fight thargoids with an especially meta build and my chieftain isn’t even engineered very much. So that became quite easy (and yes I probably should now engineer and go fight thargoids in traditional places). So the Titan is a new meta for fighting thargoids; and for mining. I know there are miners who have tanky mining vessels and enjoy the has Rez fights and mining combo- this is a new level for that. So, ultimately what am I saying: yes, a lot of the player base is excluded from this content. But, perhaps like a game should be, you need to level up in some way to get to the big, bad boss at the end of it. I don’t think this is the very end game though. I don’t think titans are going to be exploded out the galaxy. I think there is more on foot gameplay and thargoids coming (it may not be aboard the titans but it could be at the matrix sites). And that will be the new end game content for on foot- fighting thargoids. I should also say by end game content I do not mean it’s the end of the game- I just mean it is the most challenging aspect…. Before anyone comments I think that the game is ending! And if you read all the way to the end of the message… bravo! Please like and subscribe to the Buurpit channel as it really is the most honest, thoughtful and best channel for elite.

    • @TheBuurPit
      @TheBuurPit  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great comment... (And not just for the end bit ;) ).
      I get what FDev are doing here I think... You're right, it's endgame content and rightfully so. I really really hope they do more with the Titans. I'd hate for this mining mechanic to be the end of the epic Titan arc.... For the build up, HIP 22460 incident, the Stargoids and then the hunter vessels etc. to all culminate in an already established "mining mechanic but there's Thargoids" would be a tragic waste.

    • @Sighman
      @Sighman ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. If all content was new-player friendly there'd be nothing challenging for experienced players.
      The matrix sites look like they'll be softer targets (or at least, they're easier to get to).

The explanation and perspective was quite accurate and so professionally delivered to the viewer. You’re doing an excellent work, I wish I could support you more. Thanks so much for keeping the game alive. I’m not a Thargoid fan, but I do my best to keep up with this difficult and not rewarding task. Thanks again and keep the good content, it is really appreciated Commander. Lv, Cmdr Frozen Kombat

    It became more dangerous - almost impossible to stay undetected while doing something - near a titan. Previously I could reach a titan, get it alerted once (never could avoid it detecting me once soon after my arrival), sit in some trench on its surface until things calmed down, and then collect 80 tissue samples without further detection, unless some stray glaive came too close (and that didn't happen often). Now I get detected all the time, I think scythes do that. I hear their creepy clicking. After extraction of the pods, soon it comes to who collects them faster: me or them. Alerted titan does his special blue forcefield attack. So it's no longer a pure stealth operation.
    Oh, and it seems that the human pods are not caustic. The only good news for a solo Krait. :)

    A pass for me was thinking of getting more into the Thargoid side of things with the Titan but at the end of the day I'm more of a explorer at heart and it's about time I made the trip to Colonia anyways and probably to the Center. I just got a 2nd copy of Elite on Steam so might build that up for local stuff while I'm away in deep space...

      Yup,got elite by exploration. Did few rescues, got pissed with the game when even that got dicey to impossible as Im in a un guardian modified ship. In fact,just doing that now.
      4% of the galaxy explored by all, and they do a thargoid war. How about powerplays affecting remote bases so the carrier cool kids jusr dont leave the sports car parked in the garage.

  • @Sighman

    If they make it 'collect 500 pods and earn a new player-controlled thargoid ship' you won't be able to move for cmdrs queueing up to do this.
    As you say, it's all in the rewards.

    • @GaryMillerUK
      @GaryMillerUK ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I did this, I'd be hoarding the rescued pods on my fleet carrier, until a use or reward made it worth handing them in.

    I can't say for sure, but during my first (and so far only) Titan rescue mission today I had a feeling that whatever I was doing is a huge mistake later on. I mean, us "rescuing" those people is clearly or at least likely a way to infiltrate humanity on a massive scale. Whatever is in those pods might look like a human or register as such in sensors before the pods are opened, but I have my suspicions...

    great video, classic FDev making something really hard and pay nothing, such a shame, imagine the thrill if you did it and got 60 mill per pod! The excitement would be amazing.

    • @Sighman
      @Sighman ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get that, but with tens of billions of credits I'm less worried about rewards and more about rewarding gameplay. As per the pinned comment above, it seems turning in pods is giving the thargoids a hiding in the war, so there's that for people who are into the bigger picture.
      It would just be so funny if we manage to convert all the matrix sites back to human owned systems before update 17 launches ...

  • @dwsnz

    I concur with the Buur... while it IS interesting to outfit my cool running Orca to go scoop up a few of these pods for the experience of it, and to look at an listen to the pod (and spectrogram analyse to see if there's anything hidden) the ability to save many of them with the current ships is outweighed by the likelihood you're not going to make it. Key is you need FAST to get in and out (and to escape the glaives), cool running, capable of taking a beating AND have plenty of module slots for all the things plus limpet collectors AND cargo space... none of the current big ships really offer this, the closest I've found is an Orca but one in two attempts will end very badly depending on how much agro I get from hunter glaives hyper/interdictions getting in, and then around the Titan itself. Managed to manually scoop 9 pods from this and barely got out alive. To have any feeling of being much use to the war effort or feeling like I'm actually rescuing more than just a handful of those that end up floating away, I think we need something more.
    As much as I am not a 'we need more ships' just for the sake of it, this feels like an ideal opportunity to add a new ship that is geared to fill this niche challenge. Something with all those requirements, especially fast, cold, and lots of module and cargo slots. A stealthy, clandestine, fast sprinting, capable, catlike cargo ship, a Panther Clipper!!!

    • @galactictrucker
      @galactictrucker ปีที่แล้ว

      "Plenty of credits but not plenty of time and AX skill" CMDR here, I'm sure there are many alike. It's really too bad FDev create contents that most will never see other than through content creator's video, which I very much appreciate Burr! FDev should implement "in-game P2W" mechanics, no? I just don't understand FDev's strategy, firmly planting ED's demise themselves, such a wasted opportunity.

    • @Sighman
      @Sighman ปีที่แล้ว

      The Cutter works fine. Cold running (15%), 520 m/s boost, 8 utility slots and space to hold 200+ cargo. Plus enough firepower to destroy annoying glaives and scythes.

  • @Profane_Pagan
    @Profane_Pagan ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Regarding aerodynamics: that is why I love ED ships, especially those which retained (vaguely) their characteristic geometric shapes from early Elite games. In space they don't need to be aerodynamic. But! Supposedly they can all take us down on fully atmospheric planets. These papers into their flight characteristic in a dense atmospheric medium is extremely interesting (and I hope CMDR SovereignWinter will produce some more on our spaceplanes, like Adder, FDL). Although I am fairly certain these magically strong thrusters could keep our ships in the air (after all they work flawlessly in high-gravity environments), I would love that if in the future when new ships could arrive, then they would be tied together with the development of planets with dense atmospheres , thus we could see the return of Airfighter ships from Frontier Elite II and First Encounters.

    Classig FDev, making something really hard and pay dirt for it. Never understood this mentality, even their hardcore playerbase mock them because of this. I do this once from curiosity, and never do again.
    EDIT: so done this by curiosity, and it pays 150k each pod, which is very low coniderating the very high risk. The other task was able to be done in stealth mode, but when you get one pod onboard, a hunter immidetly start to attack.

    Significant mistake in the video!! (A rather rare occurrence on this channel)
    The thargoid pulse neutralizer cannot just be bought at a rescue megaship. It has to be unlocked via a tech broker, same as the caustic sink. It is a considerable task to acquire the materials needed for unlock. While it is not difficult, it is quite time consuming.

    They really just need to make something like a new SRV whose gameplay can be included in this but more, i've always talked about how cool a SLF that could enter ground mode and do SRV things would be cool, literally anything thats pretty much not a 5 hour experience JUST to prepare, fly there, and explode because you get ganked by aliens
    And yes it perhaps may be OVER a 5 hour prep time for those without engineering mats or even without the engineers, this game REALLY REALLY REALLY needs to shift into a more "new player friendly" orientation for obvious reasons.

    They created odyssey which caused a rift in the community but have focused on adding more ship based gameplay and not on foot gameplay. If this thread of updates is a slow timed release lead up to on foot odyssey content then this makes sense but if it doesn’t I am confused why they invested so much time into creating odyssey in the first place. People are correct in saying the devs are just repurposing already in the game tech instead of adding something entirely new. I like the challenging end game ship content and I will enjoy trying it but I would like to see odyssey gameplay increased and it could be as simple as randomly generated exploration targets you discover and explore on remote planets

      Hell.... it's the 2nd cousin thats avoided by all the other mining techniques at mining technique family reunions so it has no place in the AX loop ... For me anyway... Others results may of course vary :)

    tl;dr first, because you might wanna skip my rant:
    I am not going Titan-mining because.
    Reason: TiMe? I hAs iT nOt. o_0
    Now on to a ~ little ~ happy rant. :D
    I think Frontier does not realize how diverse their community is.
    Between the hardcore
    "I play Elite every free minute of time I have"-type of player
    and the softcore
    "I just play the fun*-bits"-type of player (*fun in this case means what is fun for THEM!)
    there are plenty of players in between.
    Also Frontier forgets that all type of players have not all the same amount of time available.
    Some might have 5 hours a day and 30 at a weekend, while others might not even have 5 hours in total PER WEEK available**.
    (** If you think this is unfair: it is! They might have a to care for an elderly parent and 5 hours is all the can spare. Think about this before you call them "lazy freeloaders".)
    Now create a four quarter graph with the 2 axis "intensity" for hard core to soft core - and "time" for how long they can play...
    ... and place all the players in there.
    How would that look like?
    And where are you?
    If you want all types of player engaged, you have to cater to them in different ways.
    The hardcore players might have a lot of time to grind and figure things out.
    "Use" them to pioneer new tech and methods.
    The softcore players might just want to grab their ship and go on an adventure.
    For those you need to have all the fancy bits to be easily accessible.
    (Which should not be a problem if the hardcore players have cleared the path already.)
    I know this sound unfair - so, reward the players according to their effort.
    Example, Community Goal, hauling Gold.
    Do NOT reward the players by how much cargo they have hauled.
    Reward them by how often the delivered cargo.
    A player with a Cutter can deliver more then a newer player with only a Type 7.
    But both put in the same amount of TIME into the CG (per delivery).
    Now if you have achieved at least 10 deliveries, you qualify for the reward of the CG.
    Everyone gets the same reward, no "Top 1 % gets this fancy paintjob, the remaining 99% gets 10 tons of bio waste."
    (Well, fine: you can hand out ARX in accordance with how much one player has delivered, if you really have to.)
    For bounty hunting CG's just let the amount of kills be the relevant qualifier.
    If you think that is sending the wrong signal:
    Let the reward scale with the Tier of the CG.
    So everyone has an incentive to push the Tiers as high up as possible.
    Heck, the Newbie might even think "Oh Boy, I should re-invest my money into a bigger ship to help push this CG!"
    If you now make sure the CG does not finish when the last Tier has been reached... everyone can participate. Even the ones who can only play the day before the CG finishes... for what ever reason.
    So, now your CG is:
    - motivating
    - inclusive
    - engaging
    The current CG's with their "if you are in the lower 25% you get Nada"-Logic are exclusive and ultimately promote competition... instead of COMMUNITY.
    We should really call them "Competitive Goals".
    Because in order to make it into the "75%+ area", you need to push someone else out into the "25% and below area".
    That is competition, not cooperation.
    This idea is coming from an old CG (I forgot which one; doesn't matter anyway) where you had to haul Rare Goods... and the first Tier was not reached 2 days before the end.
    Players in Cutters and Type 9's where waiting outside the Littering-Zone of the Station and other players came up to them to feed them the rare goods (because you can only buy like 12 items per 15 minutes).
    Once I saw this, I became one of them.
    This was not only ingenious.
    It was the FIRST TIME EVER where I felt "this is really a community working together to achieve a common goal".
    And NEVER BEFORE NOR AFTER have I felt more part of the Elite community.
    (Well, other then Expeditions, but that is a different story.)
    I miss that. -_-
    Well, there's my rant.
    Sorry.
    (No, I am not Canadian, I am sorry nonetheless.)
    I'm back to Deep Rock Galactic.
    Where cooperation is key AND fun.
    ROCK ON!

    So we still can’t land on titans? I figured by now that would have been implemented in the game. Still playing starfield and at this rate, I probably won’t ever go back to elite… if they put in VR for on foot (at least make it a 360 experience) then maybe I’ll come back, but for now my immersion in VR is ruined whenever I need to get out of my vehicle to scan plants or go on a station. I hate their half implemented game modes. They need to finish things before moving on to the next thing and I’m tired of it. Adding life scanners on the SRV would be good too… it’s just annoying how we can’t get the simple things…
