    Hats off sir! Occasionally make the treck down from the Midlands to charter a yacht out of Hamble, this video makes me think I should just take my dinghy! Looks more fun and no bloody crew to endure! 😉 Thanks for sharing.

      Thank you, Matthew. The smaller the boat the greater the fun.

    Hi David, great to see you and Steve still at it.
    I accepted my sailing skills were limited, so I now have a motorboat moored on the Hamble. But I miss my brief time sailing with you all.
    I will keep my eyes open for you.
    Tom

    Really enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing such a lovely outing. Looks rather nice from where I am -- New York, Adirondacks. Here it's snowing, but thanks to you, I can dream of spring and summer water trips...:-)

      Thank you for the comment. Actually this was quite windy, chilly day, but no snow.

    Thank you for the entertaining, unpretentious and informative videos you produce David. I am not a sailor but a coastal rower and paddler, and learn a lot from the sailing experiences you share and your tips on navigation, gear etc. Have subscribed to your channel so please keep the great videos comming.

    Its watching your video's that inspired me to rebuild an old mirror dinghy that was given to me. I have used it a couple of times for fishing with an outboard motor, but have yet to learn how to sail her. I made a video of the rebuild and I think it turned out quite well. Thank you for sharing your video's with us, much appreciated. Take care, atb chris 👍

      Next step, put up the mast and try a bit of sail with the wind behind you!

    You're fortunate to be able to get out at this time of year. Up here in the NW we have had almost three weeks of stormy weather. Plus, its blooming chilly...!

      We were very lucky that the winds dropped down in the afternoon. Not a good Winter.

      Thank you for your nice words, David. I am 100% OK and still sailing, but I am not making videos until I have something new to show. Also enjoying a slightly bigger boat for longer passages.

    Hi David,
    Fantastic channel you have here.
    I would like to know what boots and over trouser you use.
    Kind regards,
    Paul.

    • @msf60khz
      @msf60khz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ideally I would be using a drysuit (mine from Ravenspring at Totnes) but I was awaiting arrival of a new one, so I wore overtrousers from Sports Direct over shorts. I use dinghy boots and I wear a yachtsman's jacket over my drysuit in cold weather. Really, a dry suit is the answer for Winter sailing, but is a bit hot in Spring. Unfortunately, the water at that time is dangerously cold still. D

    Thank you for all your videos. I really enjoy them and learn about the Mirror, I have one (11159) in Spain, and I'm restoring her, it's been a year since I sailed her for the last time... I have a question for you. What do you do to avoid capsizing? I mean, your boat is full of stuff, it wouldn't be fun to capsize... Greetings from El Maresme, Catalonia!

      Thank you Sebastian. Glad you enjoy the videos. No sailing at the moment. All my stuff should be tied in. The boat has an auto anti-inversion float made by Secumar to prevent it going right over. D

    Looking at the twist in your mainsheet early on, I assume you have a swivel attachment for the upper block. Not a good idea in my experience. I like the sound on this video, though; the lapping water really gets the viewer you into the feel of sailing.

    • @msf60khz
      @msf60khz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Anton
      Thank you for commenting. That mainsheet always twists up like that and there is a swivel, but it does not seem to jam.

    • @AntonHu

      @@msf60khz Try disabling the swivel ;-)

    Hi David,
    Great channel you have. As a new Mirror owner your vids are a great help.
    Can you tell me if you use a short or long shaft outboard.
    Kind regards,
    Paul.

    • @msf60khz
      @msf60khz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My outboard is an old Suzuki 2-stroke DT2.2. It has the propeller 50cm below the transom. I do not know if they call it short or long. The propeller is quite deep in the water, which is better for rough sea. If it is too deep the engine will not start.

    Hi, interesting video. Why did you change to gaff rig?

    • @msf60khz
      @msf60khz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the comment. It was originally to learn how to handle a gaff rig, but I found it to be light and easy to use; everything can be adjusted to any situation. And it looks better than the ugly triangle sail/Bermudan sail.
