Just bought the 2019 fxsvho WoW this thing rips and the best thing about it is ... it’s a Yamaha and won’t stay in the shop most of the summer, don’t get me wrong the others are nice but from working at a repair shop for these skis I WOULD NOT buy anything else. 72 top speed until you flash them . Stay safe and have fun is what it is all about!
IMO Yamaha have absolutely hit the ball out of the park with the new FX range. Cruiser and Limited look insane, new dash and ram mounts are an awesome addition. The old FX hull was awesome in all water conditions so I’m sure if the performance of the new hull surpasses the old, then its a big win.
I'm so glad I waited to purchase until this coming spring. I'm torn between the VXR and the FX so very much looking forward to your reviews. BTW... you have the best job on God's green earth :-)
As a Yamaha fx and seadoo spark owner interested to see how good the ex goes in the surf or will I continue to ride my spark cause they are amazing in surf
Thumbs-up from Toledo, OH. It would be nice to see video footage showing the transducer and location, the speakers and RAM mounts being installed, the alternate cup holders, the Garmin being put on and taken off, details of how the hull has changed, details of how the dash has changed, etcetera. I will watch for your next videos. Thanks for taking the time to post.
You're going to see a VERY thorough review of the '19 FX Limited SVHO in mid-to-late September after we've racked up a few more hours on the machine. We'll give you a better look at these features there.
i'm having a problem deciding between the 2020 fx HO or fx SHO. I'm finally handing down my 2000 xlt 1200 pv to my wife (still runs perfect). I'm not a speed freak the 1200pv is plenty fast for me. I prefer the low speed idling performance of the 4 strokes around mangroves and docks. Does the supercharger decrease the reliability of the 1800 engine? Does the supercharger decrease any of the low speed handling? I live inside the treacherous boynton inlet where being under powered is deadly. Thanks for your help in deciding if I should upgrade to the supercharger or not?
Yes! That issue was resolved when a small rash of 2017 models showed this issue. Last year, some GP's began showing cracking around the intake grate because of the pressures on the Nano2 hull. For 2019, the GP has new reinforcements and brackets inside.
We don't. Primarily, because we haven't had the new FX offshore yet, so it'd be unfair to compare it to anything in that environment. But Kawasaki has been losing races (closed course and offshore) and market share (5.5%) to both Yamaha and Sea-Doo for years now. Their product is no longer competitive.
Because of the EPA, the current 2-stroke SJ cannot be modified AT ALL if they want to keep the engine (grandfather clause). Stay tuned for 2020 when the SJ celebrates 30 years. You'll see something to be excited about.
Honest opinion? What ski do u think is better all around, the gtx limited 300 or the svho. Sorry if you can answer this because of your relationship with the brands but i just need to know which one to get.
Well, it's sorta like asking "what shoes should I buy?" I don't know what you're planning on doing with them or anything about you. Are you going to church or wanting to go running? Are you going to the beach or to work?
But in all seriousness, there's a lot to weigh in that question. I know "Antilag Boost" wants to trash me, but the reality is that the decision is entirely subjective. What features have value to you, and which don't? Are you looking for rough water handling? Inside-lean cornering? Hull predictability? Top speed? Storage? Comfort? Bells & whistles? See what I mean? What exactly are you looking for?
It's NOT subjective when you throw in the most important factor: Reliability. OUT of all the skis I've ever owned, from Polaris to Honda,Kawasaki, Sea Doo and Yamaha, Yammies are by far the most reliable.
Absolutely night and day. 100% predictable in chop. You know exactly where the FX is going to go. Zero "hunting" or bow steering. Phenomenal lean-in in the corners, very natural. Similar to a GP in that aspect.
Watercraft Journal ok how is it compared to seadoo rxtx in the rough water, comfort wise? Which one gonna beat you up more? I don't care how fast or slow it turns or goes
Trust me buddy, the spark is cool !!!!! It has almost no storage, less than half the fuel storage, ot many accessories and theirs several reasons why it costs asmuch as it does. Spend a more get more. Cant go wrong Yamaha
Mitchell Palacio I hear ya. I have two tuned sparks with custom pitched impellers. Roughly 110-115 hp. They rip for what the are. I highly doubt the Yamaha will pull as hard due to the big weight difference but I like what’s happening in the industry. Always interested in new skis though. That’s ski looks nice and of course a more comfy ride.
Britton, Kevin here: As a family man and father of 3 kids, the majority of my riding is with passengers, so a "sitdown" runabout is ideal for my personal situation. I grew up on 440s and 550s, and standups are a lot of fun, but not exactly what I would call a "family toy." (Maybe when the kids become teenagers.) So for me, it's about being able to take the family out, do so safely and comfortably regardless of water conditions, and still be plenty of fun for me to take out on my own. Of course, what might be good for me won't match your priorities, so it's purely subjective.
Maybe you could help me decide if i tell you what i like to do on a jetski, i like adrenaline but i also like, confort i love cruising, im a bit of a speed demon, i love looking scenery and relaxing, and like 180s occasionally. what would you say suites those actions best?
I love how Yamaha took the fact that it was very popular for FX owners to add chart plotters to the cup holder, so they went ahead and made it a factory option. Now, the only downside to the 2019's is the Riva ride plate on the GPR, they porpoise really bad above 75 mph as they're designed for cornering not speed. Anyone who modifies their GPR will have to buy a 2018 OEM ride plate for safety's sake.
They understood that many people already had RAM mounted-GPS and other items, so they made a modular system to work with products people already had. That way someone with a '14 FX HO could transfer all of their existing equipment to a new '19.
michazulay the GP is meant for racing, so it won’t be as forgiving as the FX. Yet, the GP is able to maintain a true line in rough water/surf without fighting the bow steer like other craft.
I would have been more impressed if the EXR had the NA 1800cc engine. For nearly 10k its hard not to compare it to the Kawasaki 15F that has 160HP. Sure its probably not as nimble but still.
LOL! Duuude. They couldn't even fit the regular TR-1 engine out of the VX into the EX hull! They had to redesign the exhaust manifold just to get it to fit (and that's why it went from 120HP to 100HP). And the two craft are really two totally different machines. But yeah, $9,299 is steep when trying to compete with Sea-Doo's Spark.
C Man I’m not sure what you’re asking. This video is an overview; we did in-depth individual reviews of each machine shown here. They’re all on the channel.
The GP1800R went up from last year only $200. But yeah, there was quite a jump for many of the FX models. Sadly, even Kawi does it and they don't change anything year-after-year.
Watercraft Journal I’m in Canada so the jump in price for the GP1800R was 1800 bucks. Pretty much the same goes for the VXR and FX models here too. I wonder why kawi doesn’t do much to their pwcs
There's no shortage of "fan theories" why Kawasaki appears to have withdrawn larger/wider interest in developing PWC. Currently, motorcycle sales are the lowest in nearly a decade, and Kawasaki USA's central focus is motorcycles. With moto sales low, it's easy to extrapolate that PWC wouldn't receive the budget necessary to pour into development.
I just bought a 2018 Yamaha GP1800 and a 2018 Sea-Doo RXP-X. I have to say the GP1800 is nice, but the RXP-X blows the Yamaha out of the water. The electronics and gauges on the GP aren't even in the same league as the RXP. The Yamaha looks outdated, the RXP looks like a futuristic transformer. The RXP can hold a much tighter corner due to the T3 hull, and handles chop much better. To me, the RXP just feels more powerful out of the hole, and really all around. While the GP is the lighter machine, the RXP feels lighter, more agile, and tighter all around. I love both machines, but the RXP can't be beat for tight corners, power, features, agility, and looks.
Well, your opinion doesn't seem to line up with fact, given that the GP1800 racers have all bested every RXP-X on the water, both last year and this year (thus far) in AquaX and ProWatercross racing. And the GP's are winning major offshore events as well. Yes, the GP is VERY stripped down and frills-free. Many fans of the ski will tout that as a "plus" while others will say its boring. Really, it's a matter of personal preference.
I haven't done any research to verify that "every" race was won by a GP1800. However, while 90% of us here will not be racing professionally I'm just stating my own personal experience having watched all the GP1800 vs RXT-X & RXP-X videos on TH-cam, then making the decision to purchase the GP and RXP. I'm just an enthusiast who likes speed and agility. I'm 6'2" 230lbs and I like how you sit "into and lower" on the RXP as opposed to "on top" of the GP1800. I love both machines and hope for many years of trouble free use.
I certainly understand, but I think you'd agree that racing serves as the ultimate test laboratory for a vehicle, regardless of make. The RXP-X suffers from the same bow steering issue as the ST3, and sales reflect accordingly. The P-X sales are a fraction of the GP, as the GP currently ranks 3rd in the highest selling PWC for 2017. And while this fact may carry zero weight for you, it does speak towards the craft's wider appeal, ease of riding, and strength in a multitude of markets.
I wouldn't even reply to his "opinion." GP sales exceed the Sea Doo for many reasons, primary of which is reliability and resale. He's just tryig to justify the reasons for his purchase.
@@watercraftjournal, I have a 2015 RXPX260 and just bought a 2019 RXPX300, and was wondering what you mean by Bow steering, and how does it affect sales. I may (probably) have it but maybe not realizing it.
Yamaha can bring out all the features they want... it only holds 530 pounds of passengers. Seadoo holds 602 pounds. I would have owned a Yamaha if it was able to hold more weight. If you want me to buy one... make them be able to hold up to 900 pounds and you will sell out every time.
530 pounds is nothing for 3 passengers. That’s 176 pounds per person. It’s impossible for some men to reach that weight. I didn’t even calculate supplies and fuel to the weight capacity.
It's not often that 3 grown men ride together on a 3-seater. Plus, once you reach a certain weight capacity threshold it ceases to be a PWC per USCG regulations.
Mechanic I talked to keeps seeing new SEA-DOO hauls cracking at center bottom..hes a seadoo guy himself and he said go yamaha...kawis are racking up at shops after 30 hours engine failed...they just rebuilt mine.2017 ski
@@alexsmba I agree to that but the touch up yamaha did this year got my purchasing attention...last years model, hell to the no. But dont yo seadoo...ask mechanics about haul...if they honest with u...they will tell u..I almost bought seadoo but after that I go I backed off even though I love the look. Nothing beats a ski u depend on even if u saw a Kia jeski....for now yamaha stands with dependability on waters. Since I live in SF and dont want to be shark meat..I stay with yamaha next year and on
Why does Yamaha also go out of their way to knock seadoo? Wanna be Trixx? Be excited for the new product rather than knocking everybody else. I appreciate all brands and that’s why came to look. I have two seadoo sparks and I think that EXR seems interesting but come on man. Stop hating on Seadoo for being Innovative.
That was my line, not Yamaha's. And it's no knock on the Trixx. What I was saying is that the EXR is not trying to be a Trixx. Don't take offense when there is none given.
Yamaha customer service is the WORST!! Has anyone else had a 3' section of fiberglass peel off the side of the waverunner with under 20 hours of use, only to have so called customer service tell you it was due to hydaulic pressure?? I have never dealt with such a large corporation with such poor customer service and customer relations!!
Entertainment system? Like what? The Limited has GPS, a fish finder, music, multiple full-color digital dash pages allowing you to scroll through tune settings and security options. What more did you want? Candy Crush?
@@watercraftjournal Does the limited have "speakers" I dont see any ? ? ? GPS is good if it has it built in and fish finder..those are important for me
The speakers included in the FX Limited SVHO are modular, Bluetooth operated, and modular that attach on RAM mounts. They aren't incredibly loud (I couldn't hear 'em at WOT). These are NOT comparable to Sea-Doo or Kawasaki's speaker system.
Such ugly looking Skis! Those Ram mounts have to be the most chintzy looking afterthought of a add on if I've ever seen one. Sea-Doo is leagues ahead in both design and performance. What a joke Yamaha...
I can see where you could think that, Andre but the decision to go with RAM Mounts was actually quite a smart one - if you ride with large groups, you'll find that many already employ RAM Mounts for GPS, rod holders, GoPros and more. While they do look like ungainly appendages the mount system is pretty brilliant. Now, if you want to argue sound systems, YES! Sea-Doo is lightyears ahead.
=OMG= speaker system SUCKS...dinki bluetooth style..kawi and finally seedoo both speaker systems and yamaha STILL not full system...I'm so bumbed... now I have to go after market and install...if tapped in system warranty void... what a joke.. I dont want to talk smack but give us riders a break who doesnt want a system.
No, the new speaker system isn't the best. They're not official Yamaha products, either. But part of Yamaha's contractual accessory program. Thankfully, there are other brands that work with Bluetooth and RAM mount that'll melt your face off.

The High Output engine, which makes 180HP. That engine is available in the VX Cruiser HO, the VXR, the FX HO, and FX Cruiser HO.

Looking more like a sea-doo
I want more videos so bad !!!!
We'll have another "uncut" video to watch this coming Tuesday.
Seriously? for $9,000 for an EXR why wouldn't you buy a Kawasaki 15F? So much more machine
Because it's a superior machine, y'know with digital EFI and brakes.
Yamaha can bring out all the features they want... it only holds 530 pounds of passengers. Seadoo holds 602 pounds. I would have owned a Yamaha if it was able to hold more weight. If you want me to buy one... make them be able to hold up to 900 pounds and you will sell out every time.
Or put the cheeseburger down. Jeez!
@@watercraftjournal hey! Me an my "Bro's" like to sit nuts to butts on mine! Haha
We do hear that PWC are very popular in San Francisco.
wtf yamaha, is this the best you come up with, i'm going seadoo next year
Hello? what do you mean? do you want it to fly?
Um, how so?
Mechanic I talked to keeps seeing new SEA-DOO hauls cracking at center bottom..hes a seadoo guy himself and he said go yamaha...kawis are racking up at shops after 30 hours engine failed...they just rebuilt mine.2017 ski
I wish Yamaha had some style like the Sea Doos.
@@alexsmba
I agree to that but the touch up yamaha did this year got my purchasing attention...last years model, hell to the no.
I'm a trix owner, I wanna see more EXR riding. Show me some tail whips and wave jumps. Then we'll see how its different.
Watercraft Journal fair enough. That ski should do well. Very cool
BallenX101 you’re not getting my point. The EXR is meant for RACING not impressing your friends on the beach with popping wheelies.
Watercraft Journal ok that’s pretty funny lol
Interesting, this was sponsored by Yamaha Music!
Huh?

It's the same logo from the ads - the same one they gave us.
No worries! They sound great!
I and many friends of mine, we buy! When you have an electric motor!
We don't make PWCs. We review them.
That VXR price hike tho
Gardog yeah now you could get a 2018 gp1800 for close to the same price.
Wow! That sucks, Adam. Did they repair the damage?
BIG--BOOoooo,,,no entertainment system option AGAIN...But still selling my 17 kawi 310lx....going yamaha fx svho ...no one has yamaha engine
Entertainment system? Like what? The Limited has GPS, a fish finder, music, multiple full-color digital dash pages allowing you to scroll through tune settings and security options. What more did you want? Candy Crush?
@@watercraftjournal
Does the limited have "speakers" I dont see any ? ?
Do yourself a favor and read the article. You'll get more info and better pictures of the speakers there.
I don't
No, the new speaker system isn't the best. They're not official Yamaha products, either. But part of Yamaha's contractual accessory program. Thankfully, there are other brands that work with Bluetooth and RAM mount that'll melt your face off.
@@watercraftjournal
What brands I only found nice wired mounts only
I dunno. Google search "portable wireless Bluetooth sound system".
