OMG I'M SO EXCITED!!! This is my favorite film of all time the score is amazing the storytelling is incredible and the cast is phenomenal. An emotional ride for sure and I can't wait 2 watch it with you!!!

This movie might be the reason I was always so attracted to black girls. I understand his/their struggle, I grew up in a small country town in louisiana. Anyways this girl was one of my first major actress crushes.
So many movies romanticize about being a gangster at this time. This one shows that you could easily die, and that there's other other stuff out there!
I love the bus scene, gave me butterflies as a kid.
The drink the boy is carrying in the cafe scene is an Italian specialty drink ( i forgot the name). It's usually either lemons, oranges or sometimes coconut fermented with alcohol and a few other ingredients. Has a sweet/sour taste but VERY STRONG and only served with one glass mixed with water/ice. My Nonna used to make it from her lemon tree.
You didn't show the part Jane passes Sonny's Test. Well, I thought it might have been important to know.

I remember that time in the Bronx. I was the same age as Lilo's character "C" - and later got to meet him after he did this movie! great film.

16"06..BEST scene of the whole movie..I loved how Sonny kept putting guys in the bathroom! ( props to his backwards driving--Never seen anyone that could handle a full-size car like that!) I knew you;d love this film, KSO--Collagio was right at the end..He got the best education from two great men any kid could've gotten. Hell, maybe he married Jane and had a great life.
You're right about virtually everyone understanding Italian in that neighbourhood in those days. So speaking to the kid in Italian wouldn't have fooled many. But today?
This holds a dear place in my heart.it reminds me of my daughters mom and me.were pretty much the same ethnicity as c and jane.she has african and caucasian ancestry.i have italian mexican and Spanish.she really is one of the great loves of my life.i love our daughter to death
I'm sorry but if she has african and Caucasian history then she isn't black. She's biracial/mixed with two or more races. Black is monoracial, just as Caucasian is.
Most of the times Sonny gave "C " better advices than his father, and he was more open minded😀...

I like Sunny cause he's the what you call the moral ambiguity of the movie. He's a good/bad character. Even though he was a mobster, he gave some great advices to C some which I even thought was better than the one his dad gave. Excellent reaction KSO.

lol the whole time I watched this I was thinking she has to be Nigerian because she sounds just like my GF then you mentioned you are at the end.
This is one of my favorite movies btw. I grew up in south philly which is similar to this neighborhood and I’m Italian. My dad was around the same age as C during this time period and I was so jealous he grew up in this time rather then when this movie came out and I happened to also be 17 like C in 93.

Chaz wrote the screenplay based on his one man play that he is still preforming to this day. He turned down a lot of money because he wanted to play Sonny and the people didn't want him to so he held out. Robert De Niro saw the play and bought it wanting to direct . They said he could but only if he was in it. They wanted him to be the star but he didn't want to be know only Chaz could play the part of Sonny.
The actor who played C. Later went to jail in real life he was involved in a murder. " Wasted talent '.

See how racism has changed and morphed. I was born in Oklahoma and such is my accent but I also raised in Brooklyn bensonhurst area and in Ireland spending years in each. Remember Nikki 0 selling the pistols in the alley? Notice he has blonde hair. He is Irish and at that time the Irish gangs feared by the rest of the country literally. The entire 1950s was summed up in one word used by Irish gangs. The rest of you spell it "DaddyO" but the correct spelling is Daideo and it's an Irish slang in Irish for grandfather. My point being it did not used to be about just black and white it was going and coming from everywhere. Now my other point being somebody is morphing this unproductive crap and I'm sure we all know who it is at this point. We don't have to fall for this in spite of them taking away their power and everyone just get along so we can all just get on with our lives

The actor that played 'C' became a criminal in real life.
He was addicted to heroin at the time. He was the accomplice in a botched robbery that ended up killing a police officer. The dude he committed the robbery with (Steven Armento) was the father of Brancato’s girlfriend. Armento is the one who actually shot the cop. He received a life sentence. Brancato was not convicted of murder but he did receive a robbery conviction. He served approximately 5 years of a 10 year sentence (during which time he suffered a heroin overdose). He has subsequently gotten off drugs and resumed his acting career.
