Better Triple jump - the hop

  • In this video coach John Shepherd (www.johnshepherdfitness.co.uk) looks at how to get a better triple jump hop. He compares double Olympic Champion Christian Taylor to group member Jonathan Ilori (!) in an attempt to see where improvements can be made (in Jonathan! Post Script Jonathan jumped a Pb of 16.06, up from 15.86 last season, so perhaps this worked)). Posture, the take-off and the exit of the hop are considered.
    Note: there are various views on hop (and all track) technique, and in a short video it's only possible to pull together so much. But these are the things that we have identified as being needed to be worked on. The value is on understanding and analysing, whilst referencing to the particular needs and abilities of the athletes you coach or yourself if you are an athlete.

    thank you coach. i have a problem with keeping my hop leg down when going into my step phase. how can i get a nice cycle and transition smoothly to my step? thank you for sharing.
