First time I've heard "Buggs Island" in years. It's the only name I knew, in my youth for that body of water. Went on many a day trip and weekend camping trips on the NC side of the lake. Thinking back, I sure wish that kayaks and paddle boards had been popular then. Wooden and metal john boats were the only small boats I remember seeing. Sure there were speed boats, houseboats and a few sail boats. But nothing as convenient as what you had in the back of your pickup.
Definitely the kayaks are awesome. I really like being able to throw them in the truck and put the in the water anywhere and not need a landing or having to have deep enough water to get them off the trailer
Kayak fishing is pretty fun, glad your enjoying time together
