  • Fishing for Striped Bass with LABF Anglers in the Chesapeake Bay! Rocktober is here... lets go! It was a perfect overcast morning and the air was still warm as the cold front hadn't hit yet! Great to connect with ‪@kayakfishingrodeo‬ who first introduced us to this launch spot and really cool that schedules aligned with ‪@BIGYAKRFISHING‬! Both of these friends have been supporters and volunteers of ‪@luckyandblessedfishing‬ and we always have a blast when we can get out!
I started the day by hitting the docks for a few casts... mainly because this is where I caught the last time I was here. Of course conditions are always different and birds starting showing up further out pretty quickly. I love my ‪@OldTownCanoeKayak‬ Sportsmans 120 PDL and as you can see, you can get up to a pretty good sprint when you push it. Still wish I had my Motorguide to get me around faster but I certainly got a good work out!
First pass of the bird show didn't produce and right when I tarted casting in, I had a tip tangle on my spook that I had rigged up. I did see fish hitting the top and although my hook up ratio would have improved if I through a fat paddle tail, theres nothing like that topwater bite! After a couple casts my lightest set up rigged with a 3/8 G-Eye jig head and Z-man Beer Run DieZel Minnow picked up a nice 21.5 incher while trolling. The over slot came in on a 3/4 oz jig head and chartreuse Zman Streek!
I was a potential disaster as I stopped pedaling and my lines got seriously crossed up. I was still able to get the fish in but had to completely re-rig two of my set ups. It was worth it as I did pick up another nice over slot Rockfish that I'm guessing was around 26-27". Forgot my bump board so had to eyeball that one and got a good release!
