    I agree with tony.
    I've had all the big hitting makes but I'm getting stunning results from vintage, these days.
    This guy really has a lovely touch and tone, too.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Huzzah.

      +SHEMAMAN thanks . its a really cracking guitar. i've since replaced the p90s with some mini humbuckers and its sounds even better, sweeter and warmer. really happy

      +SHEMAMAN Some of the guitars coming out of SE Asia match American made guitars for a lot less money,the Chinese and Indonesians have the same skill, training and machinery and the tone woods they use are equivalent. Basically, its the rule of diminishing returns, until you get to the stage where its just the name and branding that you pay the huge extra cost for and nothing else. I have a Vintage SG the Mick Abrahams discontinued (because Gibson threatened to sue) version from the Icon range that's as good as any Gibson SG I've ever played.

    Proves that its the players ability not the cost of the guitar that's really important. I doubt this would sound much better on a Gibson.

    How do you rate the Laney Lionheart series? Everything I hear on TH-cam sounds great - very transparent sound. Thoughts?

    • @PhilipJoyceMusician
      @PhilipJoyceMusician  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Richard Bartlett well i only have my LH20H to go by. i haven't tried the 5w or 50w versions. but it i love it.
      It sounds like a much more expensive amp then it is.
      the drive channel does great modern country sounds.
      the clean channel is very warm, it's a dark sounding amp overall.
      takes pedals really well.
      i think they're highly underrated and under appreciated

    Philip Joyce...take another look at the guitar.. It looks like a V99GT pre-Wilkinson.. Bolt-on neck?? If its a bolt-on, its a pre-wilkinson V99GT, and a very very rare beastie... The V100GT should have a white truss rod cover--and yours is black, as in V99GT.. You are a white poker chip missing, which was on both models.. Nice playing BTW...Lovely...

      @PhilipJoyceMusician  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it's definitely a VG100. Set neck. Came with Wilkinson p90s. I took off the treble bass surround from the switch. I also might have removed the truss rod cover so you might be seeing the black paint

    Hi Philip is possible to replace the pick-ups with Seymour Duncan on this vintage model..?

    • @PhilipJoyceMusician
      @PhilipJoyceMusician  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes of course. I ended up installing a set of mini humbuckers in it myself.

    Nice, been super impressed with the lionheart in your demos! How is the 20watt head for home use? I'm intending having a cab setup at home and also at the venue I regularly play at so I just have to transport the head. No more lugging combos about! I'm mainly a pedal guy and had been set on a Fender Supersonic 22, fender cleans are hard to beat. I've a Fender HRD which I currently use, fine for the venue I play at but too much for home. The lionheart sounds great and a lot cheaper than the Supersonic, and probably doesn't need to be cranked as much to get a good sound. Also, do you put delays in front or in effects loop? Let me know your thoughts?! Cheers!

      @PhilipJoyceMusician  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the lionheart. It's just the right volume for small gigs and rehearsals. You can crank it and get a nice grind happening without being deafening.

    is the guitar noisy with thick od/distortion?
    it's supposed to be stack p90 but i can hear hum before you start playing

    • @PhilipJoyceMusician
      @PhilipJoyceMusician  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think they are stacked p90s but were wired as single coils in this guitar for a lower more vintage output. I've since replaced them with some mini hum buckers

    • @JoseHenrique-xg1lp
      @JoseHenrique-xg1lp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I grounded mine and replaced the input jack. Now the hum is so subtle I can't bother

    • @johncartelli
      @johncartelli 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      where did you ground it and why the jack.change..i have one on order and hate hum...ok..got it today..hum was awful way more than any strat ive ever had...so i rewired the pickups to be humbuckers..now they are silent..BUT...they are extremely loud...so im going to pull one of the two magnets out of each to hopefully cut back on eachs volume...i also have a harley benton sc custom and i think they are made in same factory...same neck head stock etc.

    I have the same amp. What speakers and settings do you tend to run the amp at?

    • @PhilipJoyceMusician
      @PhilipJoyceMusician  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. i think in this video i was using a 1x12 Marshall cab that had a Celestion G12T-75 in it. More recently i have been using it with a custom built 1x12 cab with a Celestion Creamback G12H75 which i think suits the amp better. has a a bigger dynamic range and a more modern sound.
      The Amp i usually run using the Low input to get the most clean headroom possible. the Volume at 5 or 6, bight switch off, bass middle and treble close to 12 O' clock. i adjust them up or down a little depending on the room and the guitar I'm using. and i leave the Tone up full unless its a very bright room then i will knock it back to 8 or 9

    Sounds great. Do you stack the 2 overdrive pedals ? Or use the Laney only ?

    • @PhilipJoyceMusician
      @PhilipJoyceMusician  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah that was the two drives stacked into the clean channel of the laney
