      Thanks Trish I really appreciate it. I've got mixed feelings to be honest. I hate to inflict irritating ads on folks but at the same time some contribution to my costs enables me to make more content. 🤷‍♂️

      Perhaps just at the beginning and maybe towards the end? This way it is less irritating and you still get the rewards and benefits to help fund your channel. I will continue to watch either way. I love that you stay true to who you are and the information you provide. Keep it going....

      I haven't had chance to dig into the settings yet - but yeah if I can specify things like that then I will do. 😬

    Hi Jeff, You have opened up a new interest for me, getting a little tired of waiting a year or so for my orchids to flower, these foliage plants will be so much more interesting. I'm off to find what I can in my area. Yes, I agree, one of the most beautiful foliage plants I have seen! I'm at 51° N, UK, so hoping I could be successful at growing them too

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      51°? You're practically at the equator! 😂 Haha! Great to hear from a fellow-Brit. I still love orchids - but yeah I agree, the very thing that makes them good i.e. the blooms can last for ages, is the same thing that makes them frustrating in that they're very slow to actually do much of anything. There are so many amazing plants out there - not just the stalwarts we're all familiar with like Spider plants and Swiss Cheese plants - not that there's anything wrong with those - but I tend to go for something I haven't seen before. Good luck - and I can't wait to see how you get on.

    I’ve just bought a tiny one, can’t wait for it to get bigger. Great channel.

      Thanks Fiona, I'm glad you think so! The growth on mine from it being a teeny tiny thing has come over about 6 weeks, so you won't have long to wait. 😬

    Absolutely beautiful! I will get one if I can find it - thanks for sharing! I have the Tradescantia zebrina and I do love it...It’s the best foliage plant I personally have. But that Begonia is better for sure!

    It’s a stunning plant. I have one in a terrarium thought it needed extra humidity will try to grow one out of it.

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it does like high humidity during the growing season, Leticia. Just don't mist the leaves as they easily get fungal infections.

    Such a good choice. A plant-friend gave me one (or very similar) a few years ago - the leaves are stunningly different from young, dark foliage to very variegated older leaves. As you say, the velvety appearance of the foliage is lovely.

    Logeesplants just did a video of their Begonia house on their channel. I think its called 100 years of begonias! Do you get a feeling they have been growing and breeding begonias for a long time. I will get some Begonias and Streptocarpus, just not sure when. Lovely plants thanks for sharing.

    Have you thought about the ' Rattlesnake plant' for something a bit different?

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually had a couple through the winter. But they couldn't cope with the heat extremes of the greenhouse during spring and summer despite all the shading. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

      I love my Calathea Rattlesnake, as well as the Calathea Makoyana, and Warsiceiwicz.

    What channel is this? You didn't choose a Tradescantia?
    "Is this the loveliest foliage plant there is?"
    Best not ask me, I like things Plain Jane. Rachel (Gardening at Douentza) has that one Streptocarpus that produces just one gigantic leaf, that I like. Tree Fern I like, but they're mealy bug magnets so I just stopped growing them, couldn't keep the damn things off them. And then there's the Mule Foot Fern, Angiopteris evecta. In the end, it's just a fern, but it is so prehistoric 😍 .

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, well, I'll let you into a little secret. I post so many Tradescantia videos because I'm following my TH-cam analytics - i.e. they get me subs! I do like them, but not quite as much as you might expect. They're more of a supporting act than the main event. I like all those plants you mentioned - never heard of the one-leafed-strep though - must look that one up. It's like choosing a favourite food - different day, different favourite! (My Brugmansia is a spider mite magnet in the greenhouse - despite the great show it's put on this season - I'm going to let the first frosts kill it.

    • @michaelmccarthy4077
      @michaelmccarthy4077 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Grow_Up_Man55 I'll let you in on a little secret, frost won't actually kill a Brugmansia. A long freeze will, but they are hardy to US zone 8 provided you mulch them and the roots don't freeze through.
      The Strep is
      Streptocarpus vandeleurii, I think.

    • @Grow_Up_Man55

      I'm pretty sure 6 months of a UK winter will do it in - even if it hangs on for a bit! I've found those Streps for sale at Dibley's - a fairly well-known hybridiser of Streps in Wales. I might get one just for the novelty factor. I believe they're known as unifoliates. (Just had another look: they've got 4 different cultivars - one of them called Strep dunnii has a leaf (occasionally it produces more than one) up to 1 metre long! I'm very tempted - it's only £4!)
