  • In this video I propagate four different begonias from rhizomes. I break up my Begonia 'Escargot' to sacrifice it as propagating material but also show how to use spare rhizomes on other begonias.

    Thank you for this , Rachael. I have to do this to my Sizemoreae. Yes, all of the new leaves turned brown. I think it may be a tobacco leaf disease because my son had smoked in the house. Planting into new, sterilized pots with sterilized soil, and rinsing with peroxide.

    Hi, Rachel! Thanks for the very informative video! I’m very new to rhizome begonia and feel like they are quite fuzzy compare with the cane begonias. Mine are keep on dying back and regrowing, and never actually thriving. The leaves are dropping crazily when they throw a tantrum. I’m in zone 9 with average humidity 70% throw the year in subtropical area. I’ll say the climate is perfect for them but I don’t know why they are suffering. The medium is coco coir with lots of perlite. So the drainage is wonderful. And I don’t tend to over water them. Could you please suggest how I should deal with them? Thanks!

    Me begonia sizemoreae is just a baby & only had 1 leaf attached when I got it in the mail with another leaf detached. I’m propagating that leaf but worried about the rhizome, the attached leaf is limp & sad but not due to under watering. I’ve had it over a month & it hasn’t grown anything new. I have moved it from sphagnum to a cactus soil mixed with pearlite. Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong? Should I remove the leaf?

    Ive got a very old rex Begonia as a gift. Its in very good condition, quite extensive rhizome and lots of leaves. Id like to repot it, because the Soil is just plain potting compost and its in a huge pot ..7 liter . Thats against everything i know and i had success with, with Begonias. The rhizome doenst have contact with soil in most places, although its still contained in the pot. When I repot it, should i cover the rhizome with soil?

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would bury the rhizomes a little when repotting or pin the overhanging rhizomes to the surface of the compost until they root.

      Some varieties of begonia work better than others but you are more likely of success by choosing a portion of rhyzome with an eye.
