It was more noticeable when this episode first aired, since the pilot was the only hazbin video released and that song was one of the more spectacular scenes released in the Hellaverse at the time. For new audiences, quite a lot of the new Hazbin songs is going to overshadow the pilot completely so it doesn't stick out that much.

Keep in mind that Pilot Stolas is absolutely NOT subsequent Stolas. Very different character, considerably more easy to intimidate, and NEVER talks about the earth and global warming in gleeful tones. (Played by Bryce Pinkham, Tony nominee. A fellow called Brock Baker was the original Stolas, and he was meant to be an actual villain. It didn't last. :D Likely also the reason they toned it down in the pilot right down to actual non existence ) Bryce's Pinkham's Stolas is kind of nervously faking it, and Blitz honestly brought it on himself. He literally started it. (Also this is my absolute favorite song of Helluva Boss. Got me through four years of taking care of an elderly parent.)
It's less that they toned Stolas down, and more that they took the overt villain vibes and spread them among the _rest_ of the Goetia family -- of the ones who've been introduced so far (and who Matt will meet soon enough), Stolas's father Paimon and half-brother Andrealphus each have elements of the pilot Stolas's demeanor. (Vassago's still an unknown at time of writing, but I feel like he's one of the good eggs.)

So something to keep in mind with Helluva Boss is that since it's a TH-cam-series, Viv was more free to experiment. As such, I'd say that this show evolved with Viv over time, as her experience, budget and plans for the lore-verse grew. Meanwhile with Hazbin, its a finished polished product released in a neat coherent bundle. I think this becomes evident the more you watch of this show, and the dramatic shift towards something more resembling Hazbin starts somewhere around s1e7.
I agree! You can feel the will to experiment and sometimes fumble a bit, but it'so sincere and bold. I think it's a slightly punk approach and I love It very much. It's very refreshing and keeps my interest piqued much more than a neat little sanitized show.

This show has slightly altered those demons, turning most of them into birds, making them into one family tree, and introducing a few new characters to bridge the gaps as sisters and wives and shit. Stolas was in fact an owl in that book, while Stella (his wife, a peahen) and Octavia (his daughter, an owl) are completely made up for this show. Stolas' deal in the Goetia was he could be summoned to learn about astronomy and botany. 12:16 I've seen this episode a good 20 times and am only just now noticing the Exorcist booth

Hey! I would like to make an observation about the minute [ 19:46 ]: I don't know if you noticed, but Fizzarolli is starring opposite Charlie from Hazbin Hotel. If you watch the scene where Fizzarolli is at the piano, and then watch the Hazbin Hotel Pilot scene (in the song Charlie sings during the newspaper interview, with Katie Killjoy etc.), you will see that Fizzarolli and Charlie are in on top of a Piano, with a spotlight, and both even do the same movements! What changes are just your lines. It took me a long time to realize this, haha, but I think it's funny how the scene is so similar and the lines are so opposite. Even his vulgarity/lustfulness has its reasons, and I really hope that you'll appreciate it after watching it completely. Vivzie's universe is a lot inspired by the real world Goetic demons. Stolas is a real demon, that really looks like an owl. It's a pacifist demon that can help you learn about astronomy and some other stuff so she just used that in her show.

goetia family is huge and contains many more demons, theyre all based on mythology and theyre depicted in the salomon's book of demons. they are all hellborn. and yes, when octavia mentions lucifer, yes, she meant the same lucifer you saw while watching hazbin hotel, it is the same universe. and here comes a fun fact, many characters from helluva boss like blitz, moxxie, loona, stolas, fizzaroli and some other characters were supposed to be in hazbin hotel but plans eventually changed and viv made a second series about them. you can spot their early versions in hazbin hotel pilot.

Stolas is one of the 72 demons of Solomon in religion. Also called Ars Goetia. He can read stuff in the stars and planets and stuff and also know about plants, very plainly described. He is described in lore as a long legged owl, raven or man. So he has several forms but the most common one is the owl. But yes, he is an actual demon in religion. Most of the ars goetia we see in the show is also part of this lore. So is one of the deadly sins.

It listed the hierarchy of demons in Hell and Stolas is mentioned and is in fact described as a Owl based demon and a member of the royalty. He is nowhere near the top of the hierarchy but he is a royal.
Not really the same, but the Netherlands has like 'Fright Nights' where during the month of October, theme parks will transform into scary versions of their normal selves. The most famous one is Walibi (I think the one who started the trend, at least here in the Netherlands). People can ride the rollercoasters, but also walk through the park and get jumpscared by actors dressed in scary costumes and stuff. But that's only during Halloween, not all year round.

There IS a comic owl. Its name is… STOLAS! That’s right, our _salacious_ owl boi is based off the Classic description of the same name. OG Stolas was said to assist with Alchemy, Botany, and Astronomy!

So something to keep in mind with Helluva Boss is that since it's a TH-cam-series, Viv was more free to experiment. As such, I'd say that this show evolved with Viv over time, as her experience, budget and plans for the lore-verse grew. Meanwhile with Hazbin, its a finished polished product released in a neat coherent bundle. I think this becomes evident the more you watch of this show, and the dramatic shift towards something more resembling Hazbin starts somewhere around s1e7.

11:06 Okay so a good chunk of the demons in this show are pulled by a real life text called the Ars Goetia, which was a guide on 72 demons and how to summon them. This show has slightly altered those demons, turning most of them into birds, making them into one family tree, and introducing a few new characters to bridge the gaps as sisters and wives and shit. Stolas was in fact an owl in that book, while Stella (his wife, a peahen) and Octavia (his daughter, an owl) are completely made up for this show. Stolas' deal in the Goetia was he could be summoned to learn about astronomy and botany.

I don't know if you noticed, but Fizzarolli is starring opposite Charlie from Hazbin Hotel. If you watch the scene where Fizzarolli is at the piano, and then watch the Hazbin Hotel Pilot scene (in the song Charlie sings during the newspaper interview, with Katie Killjoy etc.), you will see that Fizzarolli and Charlie are in on top of a Piano, with a spotlight, and both even do the same movements! What changes are just your lines.
It took me a long time to realize this, haha, but I think it's funny how the scene is so similar and the lines are so opposite.

In fact, no matter how comical and vulgar the character of Stolas may look in the first episodes, his development basically begins at the end of the first and reaches its peak in the second season, and believe, you'll be very stunned by everything that stands behind him. Even in this episode, we are already told that he is not quite the same as we saw him until this moment. Even his vulgarity/lustfulness has its reasons, and I really hope that you'll appreciate it after watching it completely. And this will be very surprised if in the process (especially the second season, yes) some moments don't bring you to the point of being moved or maybe even shedding tears.

Vivzie's universe is a lot inspired by the real world Goetic demons. Stolas is a real demon, that really looks like an owl. It's a pacifist demon that can help you learn about astronomy and some other stuff so she just used that in her show.
that sparkling musical ditty in the beginning before the song is Stolas' theme. If you listen carefully, you can hear it here and there throughout the episode. It also makes a major appearance in a song later on in the show.
The background music is easily one of biggest reasons I’ve been a fan of this show (in particular stolas’s background music)
Stolas belongs to the Ars Goetia, a class of hellborn demon royalty, while imps like Blitz are basically at the bottom of the food chain in Hell. It's implied that Stella, Stolas's wife, is more upset about the class of the person he was cheating with than the cheating itself.
Also, I love the idea of Lucifer owning a theme park. I hope there's some mention of it in Hazbin Hotel someday.

and yes, when octavia mentions lucifer, yes, she meant the same lucifer you saw while watching hazbin hotel, it is the same universe. and here comes a fun fact, many characters from helluva boss like blitz, moxxie, loona, stolas, fizzaroli and some other characters were supposed to be in hazbin hotel but plans eventually changed and viv made a second series about them. you can spot their early versions in hazbin hotel pilot.

Stolas is one of the 72 demons of Solomon in religion. Also called Ars Goetia. He can read stuff in the stars and planets and stuff and also know about plants, very plainly described. He is described in lore as a long legged owl, raven or man. So he has several forms but the most common one is the owl. But yes, he is an actual demon in religion. Most of the ars goetia we see in the show is also part of this lore. So is one of the deadly sins.

Stolas is from the Goetia family. This is a reference to the Ars Goetia, part of an important grimoire in the history of demonology (as part of the Lesser Key of Solomon), which bears the names of many demons. Stolas is actually listed in the real Ars Goetia as a demon prince, and was illustrated at a later time in another demonology book as being owl-like in appearance.
Stolas character's basis is from Christian lore. The Goetia are a reference to the Ars Goetia from an ancient text called The Lesser Keys of Solomon. This text expanded the lore of magic and demons. It listed the hierarchy of demons in Hell and Stolas is mentioned and is in fact described as a Owl based demon and a member of the royalty. He is nowhere near the top of the hierarchy but he is a royal.

Not really the same, but the Netherlands has like 'Fright Nights' where during the month of October, theme parks will transform into scary versions of their normal selves. The most famous one is Walibi (I think the one who started the trend, at least here in the Netherlands). People can ride the rollercoasters, but also walk through the park and get jumpscared by actors dressed in scary costumes and stuff. But that's only during Halloween, not all year round.

- As Blitz-o- mentions, RoboFizz is a "robo-ripoff of an overrated sellout jester", meaning there is a non-robotic Fizzarolli out there that this one's merely based off
- RoboFizz (as well as the real one) is voiced by Alex Brightman, who also voices Adam and Sir Pentious in Hazbin Hotel
- There is also a RoboFizz in Hazbin Hotel: Kitty, the robotic assistant of Valentino, who can be seen fetching him a drink or holding things for him while standing in the background a couple times (mainly in episode 2)
