- We had an amazing night at the Court Residence ( www.courtresid... )in Linlithgow! And the burgh itself is simply lovely!
This morning’s departure was at 8:30 and we figured we had 24’ish km
The walk quickly went from Linlithgow’s semi urban environment to pastureland and treed ‘pony trails’ as we made our way towards Bo’Ness. A visit to an amazing Estate property was the last stop before heading up to the shore line which we followed for a couple km before we took a quick detour into town from The Way to enjoy coffee and a roll.
Back onto the trail (at low tide) we continued along the Firth of Fourth to the northern most point of The Roman Empire!
As we approached Blackness Castle we made a stop at the new ‘retail’ space of the Blackness Bay Distillery ( www.blacknessdistillery.co.uk ) for a sample and to make a purchase!!
We walked the castle grounds before meeting Colin. A wonderful man with a great passion for music and wine!
Back into forest trails be reached the Hopetoun House Estate pastures….. sadly the estate is closed Wednesdays (seems to be a thing for us on this adventure!!)
When we arrived in South Queensferry we stopped at The Ferry Tap for a pint before walking through town (reminds me of Tenby Harbour in Wales) to our accommodation for the night, The Hawes Inn.
Tomorrow we walk to Edinburgh where we will have a few tourist days to before carrying on our Way journey!
Watch for our entire series on The John Muir Way!

I love South Queensferry, I sometimes use it as as base rather than staying in Edinburgh itself when I want a break out that way. Last time I was there I walked over the Forth Road bridge to North Queensferry then got the train back to South Queensferry...then wondered why I was so tired. Turns out I did the whole walk with covid and didn't know!
The ‘main drag’ reminded me of Tenby Harbour! Sorry about the virus; hope your recovered well!!
