Tbh, cordless is 100% worth it. No hose or compressor everyday makes the job sooooo much easier. I haven't used an air impact in over 10 years, and I don't intend on using an air nailer ever again if I don't absolutely have to ☺️

Good review. Gen 1 15G was garbage, now it is fixed.
I use and abuse all my Milwaukee tools, and the best thing they have above all others is the warranty. Everything sent in for repair has been fixed or replaced within 10 days, including a 12" Miter Saw. The only issue is when a tool is sent in for repair, you need another one to use for a week or so, therefore you need two of each.. Some think this is a bad thing, but if you are a real contractor, you need at least two of each anyhow.
I just added the 15 ga to my collection. For hanging it on my belt I got the Toughbilt nail gun holder. It was $11.99 has a metal strip to hang the gun and it’s padded on the side. Diamond back makes nail gun holders as well. Love your videos

You can actually move the hook to the other side. A nice change. Before they never did that.
Great review. Been using one for a little over a week and comfortable to even run crown. Impossible with first Gen. That was like toting a cover block all day
I have the M18 framing nailer with extended magazine. I love it and when I get when my other nailers become toast I'm glad that I can happily go for Milwaukee.
I have that finisher for my woodworking. I played with it on scrap wood when I first got it. It sank the nail just like I want and love the way it sounds.

I love the gen2 15g nailer. Probably one of my favorite tools. Goes through solid oak like butter. My go to gun for baseboard and larger trim.

Excellent review - lots of real-world facts and insights without all of the dramatics and fluff.
It really makes me wonder that with all of the design engineers they have on staff at Milwaukee that they could not have come up with a design to overcome the real-world usage limitations of the belt hook. C'mon - how much engineering smarts does it really take to design a extendable/collapsible hook that you can pull out during work, and then push back in if you want to store the nailer inside a Packout drawer??
That tells me they somehow didn't do enough real User/Field testing during the design stage because that issue would have cropped up right away. But they can still recover since that's a part that just screws on. They can still make amends on that now.
This is my favourite carpentry channel and think Spencer is comfortably the better carpenter out of the main 3 guys. I don't get why his subs are so much lower.

Finally someone showed if it would fit in the Packout drawer.That was my concern when I ordered mine(besides the fact if the gun was any good or not, also just switched from my Dewalt) .Keep up the great videos lots of great info.
Yep it's tight but it fits. The 3.0 CP battery is a bit wider, so a standard size battery or no battery should make it close just fine.
I am so glad that you brought this up because I thought I might be the only one who hated that gun. I didn't even know they came out with a new generation until I seen your video the day you posted the video was the 90th day that I had the Gen one, I immediately after seeing your video brought it to home Depot asked them if they would take it back because I hated it and there was nothing wrong with it they gladly took the gun back and refunded my money 100% I turned around and purchased the Gen 2 🤣
Same belt hook issue on frame nailer. But I do love the Milwaukee line. I just switched over and so far every tool I have used has been awesome. LOL by end of next yr Ill have em all. Going to rebuild my workhorse van (FedEx style) to be all pack out

I just got one of these a week ago. I really like it.
We use that heavy framing nailer to and only use it on the ground. Heaviest one out there but beats hand bombing them all in. Paslode is the king for now.

I hang the guns off a leather hammer steel loop off my tool belt. The extension off my belt makes it fit nicely. Also, I multi-tooled slits on either sides of the plastic tops on the ladders.
yesterday I got this gun and today I used it for the first time, it is super compared to the senco and the dewalt, I think it is an excellent tool.

I have all the Milwaukee gen 2 guns. I had been using just the dewalt 20v platform ( over 60 tools and 40 batteries) but their guns are that bad that I now run the 2 battery platforms. The Milwaukee nail guns are awesome and I agree with the pro and cons in this video.
Yeah same here, I was considesring buying dewalt to milwakee battery adapters, I am not a fanboy of any brand, I just get what I like.
Milwaukee, Makita, Dewalt and RYOBI make good 15,16, 18 and framing 18 &20 volt nailers. Some people have unrealistic expectations when all they have to do it work with the tool you got and know it’s advantages and disadvantages.
I use all air nailers with one 15 gauge 18 volt nailer by RYOBI and I go to work and handle my business.
OK… great review, But I’ll probably have to recommend a Dewalt to Milwaukee battery adapter for everybody that has a DeWalt platform that just wants a better finish nailer
12:36 the metabo hpt/hitachi nailers are able to be refilled when “gas” gets low, which is a cool thing. Can even buy the part yourself to replace the air w/ a compressor off Amazon. So, if Milwaukee has a similar setup, hoping they can be refilled just as easy when time comes……but time will tell.

You can do it but you have to take apart the tool and buy a special adapter.
@@davidperry4013 just need to pop off the top “hatch”, which is 2 screws believe and yes, need a special air compressor adapter; but that’s only $15-$20 and just makes sure ya get correct psi filled back in tool internal tank. Entire process takes 10-20 mins the first time and when used to doing this every “so often” takes 3 mins, maybe 4 mins and all ready till next time.
It is an awesome gun. Much better than the gen1. Great review.

An informative video Spencer, thank you. I was hoping you were still aggravated with Milwaukee. My wife bought me an early Christmas present (s) when got me the Dewalt 15, 16, and 18 gauge 20 volt nail guns. She didn’t realize I had gotten the Milwaukee18 volt Gen 2, 15, 16, & 18 gauge nail gun and the Milwaukee Gen 2 Framing nailer the week before. I was hoping you or someone else would be willing to take them off my hands for a discounted price of course. If anyone is interested please send me a comment. I totally agree with everything you said about this gun. I got mine about 2 months ago and have been using it all day every day. I think Milwaukee did a good job with it. Coming off of the metabo hpt 15 gauge cordless gun, this gun is way more consistent with nail depth.
How did you get it 2 months ago?

i tried the milwaukee 18ga and 15ga comparing to my dewalt. The dewalt ergonomics is much balanced and nail hole is cleaner.
Idk. I been running Ryobi 18ga for 6-7+yrs now. No problems. I don't do as much as you. Roy 15ga (3yrs) not so great. But works. If Ryobi makes a second Gen. I stay w them
I love my Paslodes, tried the Dewalt top heavy, tried the Milwaukee Gen 1 horrible, wasted money on both tools. So still using my Paslodes
I been running the 16 gauge and it's a beast!
Mine also has the nail feed issue. I love mine but it gets annoying. I’ve tried multiple brand nails but it still does it. It does seem to work better with Senco nails. I hope they can get a fix for it. Seems to me they just need to put a stronger spring in it.
There was a pretty good discussion on ToolGuyd when these tools came out about the value of Nitrogen Spring vs the Dewalt Flywheel regarding longevity. The consensus iirc was if it involves Gas and moving Parts then as the tool is doing its job EVENTUALLY it will lose some gas will escape, thats just the nature of the beast. So I make sure to not overwork my guns and wear them out. For example I don't use the framer for Bulk nailing like Shear panels roof sheathing, or subfloor.
I buy my tools to use them… if they wear out I replace them.
Convince usually comes with a cost compromise.
I have to be honest I've been using the 15 gauge Gen. One nailer and haven't had any problems i have total control shooting the nail , heads sink every single time No need to buy the Gen. 2 when the Gen. One works perfectly fine
What a huge difference they made going to that Gen 2 18 gauge nailer it is night and day, I do not own a 15 gauge yet but that's probably next
Excellent review Spencer. On the ladder hook, I’ve found that Milwaukee technical support is more than willing to get part numbers for whatever item on whatever tool you want. My I suggest that you call them for the part number on the ladder hook and then order several from a local store that does Milwaukee repair.
I'd love to hear from you tea and on 15 vs 16 value as you have hands on experience with both and I have heard people argue both sides some want more holding power others want a cleaner finish and feel a 16 is better for trim, then others say get the 18 and the 15.
I'm a guy who remodels/repairs investment homes we rent, does general home projects like built in cabinets/shelving, and helps out my nerdy unskilled friends here and there. I am phasing out my air tools and want to not carry a TON of tools to my worksites. Any other handy dudes out there feel free to chime in too.
Baseboards, trim, door frames, and cabinets are what I deal with most that I'm trying to find the right gun for.
Order the framing nailer rafter hook and then you’ll have the same setup as you do on the framing gun.
Hi Spencer, I'm a new subscriber, I have a collection of M18 tools , for as and when I need them, I'm not in the construction business, more of a expert DIY man, I am moving into a new property here in the UK, and need to replace all skirting, architraves etc, and this new 15g gauge finish nailer , seems to be a great addition. I might try the Gen 2 but Dewalt is hard to beat!
Maybe 3D print a quick release mechanism to bolt the hanger to.
It would extend the hanger further out when in use, and then quick release it to fit in the pack out box...
I got the Milwaukee Gen 1 15ga, and I agree with the clip design. Drop the 15ga nailer a few times because of the clip. It is not secure to the belt. But then again, clips design is also a fault with Makita too. Drop my Makita impact so many times because of it. My work flow required me to kneel and pick parts to fasten. Some how either with my thigh or my work belt, they would push my impact and 15ga off my belt
My father would be like Back in my day all I used was a hammer and trim nails and a Beer in the other hand lol

Hey I have most of the Milwaukee guns here in UK I use them all like hell and damn I swear by them, just a tip on hanging, I removed my swing out joist hanging hook from my framing nailer and popped it onto the left hand side of my 15g and it gives plenty of hanging options buddy just order a spare one from millwaukee or an off brand replacement from Amazon again that's what I did. This will help loads💪💪💪💪
I had problems with dry firing as well.
I've had that sticking problem with my Milwaukee fuel 18ga nailer.
A 3D printed blocking spacer the pull the hook proud an extra half inch might work
I'm still using my paslode 16 gauge how many gauges do we need, fine stuff i pull out the 18 air got the framer also but do i need a 15 for exterior trim.
You could probably use the rafter hook off the framing nailer
Intresting to hear your comments on dewalt 15g. All the exact same complaints I have with mine. The dewalts need regular maintenance, like blowing them out and hitting the mag loader with silicone spray so the nails feed without being hung up. But i want to upgrade to milwaukee, plus they have way more usefull tools on the m18 and m12 lineup for feild carpenters than dewalt does. But my dewalts are fine, they get the job done with just a little extra attention. Im holding out for makitas 40v
But you're not supposed to use silicone spray.
@jami w i personally hate the variable trigger on the dewalt multi tool lol. I have all makita tools except for a hitachi pinner and the dewalt 18 and 15. I also dont want to commit to a cordless tablesaw because when the ridgid dies itll get replaced with a saw stop. But milwaukee has the best m12 lineup, lots of valuable tools for field carpenters in m12. and looks like now they have the best guns, so id be advantaged with some milwakee stuff. But i still dont want to replace my current mix up of battery brands with anything untill the makita 40volts come to the US
I am a huge fan of milwaukee, i do have one question to the finish nailer!! Do you ever lubricate the glider that hammer the nails in???
How often you had to send for repair or gas refill ? How is the 18gauge narrow stapler any issues w that one if you have it ?
How well does it shoot in hardwoods? I recently built an oak stair railing and my finish nailer struggled to sink nails half way.

Curious why you purchased a new Dewalt every 1.5 yrs, did Dewalt not honor their warranty or just avoiding down time?

I realise that the vid is only a year old, but I'd like to see how they held up recently provided you've still been using them on a regular basis on jobsites. I'm not a contractor, but more DIY and I won't be using the tool as hard.

Glad they upgraded the tool. I haven't had any issues with the gen 1 15ga, but it does annoy me that there's a better one out there despite saving up and dropping almost $350 on the old one just a couple years ago
I felt the same way I have a 16 gauge it was bittersweet when I saw the first review. Oh well time to drop another 300
I don't know what Milwaukee was thinking releasing Gen1, they were garbage. They really should offer buyback as anyone who bought those were guinea pigs for the Gen2.
@@tccoggs I wouldn’t go that far mechanically I don’t have any problems with mine it doesn’t jam it doesn’t misfire and it sets the nails. It doesn’t toenail well Which is a problem and feels a bit rough when it shoots.I would say it’s not great but I don’t hate it like some do.
@@steffendetrick9403 I'm sure peoples milage varied, but mine jammed, had no power, went in for service twice and I just gave up and went back to Paslode/DeWalt. The only thing drawing me back right now is the 23ga pin nailer.
@@tccoggs I would gladly participate in a buyback/trade in 👍. I've found a few nail types that the gen 1 doesn't tolerate well but as long as I buy senco nails it has worked very well. The only thing I don't like is how large the contact foot is compared to some other nailers out there.

Blow them off, that's it. They don't want you to use oil or any kind of spray on them.
Would you run m18 or a pneumatic to trim a whole house?
Has anyone tried attaching that foldout rafter hook where the belt hook goes? I know there's 2 screws for it, but I see 2 holes on the sides of the threaded hole (unless those are spaces for the tool's structural screws).
Need to do a weather test eg in winter does the gas freeze and cause issues etc
This channel is geared towards interior millwork. So cold isn't really a factor for me or most viewers.

Nice upgrades still to big on the side. I dont mind the winding on the dewalt, so used to it I dont hear it anymore but I wear headphones so.

Just waiting for my Hitachi 15 gauge to break before I get a cordless Milwaukee 15 gauge. Problem is I might retire before that happens.

Metabo Hpt cordless nailers seem better to me and I have both. The new metabo 18 gauge (they have 2) is half the size of Milwaukee and shoots like a pneumatic. The Metabo framer is lighter and smoother. Milwaukees framer is like firing a cannon. Also feels like a cannon. It does drive nails very deep.
So now we’re buying tools based on if they fit in a “pack out” drawer… how did we ever get along without pack out drawers?

I’m confused to chose the right one. 15 gauge, 16 gauge, 18 gauge etc.. I understand it get slimmer when the number increase. However, I don’t have prior experience and I need one nailer for building fence. Please tell me the right gauge number.

I have heard some people in the reviews complaining about not being able to use certain types of 15 da nails that should work in the gun based on their claims. What nails do you use? I want to make sure I use nails that are not going to cause me problems. Would senco work?
Make a spacer block so the hook extends out. You will need some longer screws though.
Then it won't fit in the toolbox...
