Reflections on the Bahá'í Long Healing Prayer

This talk explores the nature of healing and the powers of the Manifestation of God in that healing and our relationship to Him. Meanings held within the structure and style of the prayer are offered and speculation even about future Manifestations held within the Text. All to help us along the path of grace, guidance, healing and forgiveness.
Dr. Woodall is a psychiatrist, formerly on the faculty of Harvard Medical School with special expertise in posttraumatic stress disorder, resilience and treatment resistant depression. He was Director of the State Department refugee relief effort in the Balkans after the war there, and the Convener of the “Resilient Responses to Social Crisis Working Group” at Harvard University. At the request of the Mayor’s Office of New York City, he developed and implemented a citywide resilience-building program for children after 9/11 that was also implemented in New Orleans and Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina and in northern Uganda. Since the Newtown tragedy, he has launched a series of resilience building efforts there. He is Medical Director of Synergy Health in Newtown where he specializes in brain health, treatment resistant depression and resilience.

I have the experience recently, not to hold my mind strictly to the words, but to let my mind seek connection to the associations to the current crisis which I am concerned about. As I say the prayer’s words I have images of the crisis. Then I try to let the resolution of the prayer become a resolution to my role in the crisis which, though it continues, gives me a suggestion of eventual positive resolution of the current world crisis.

Thankyou so much for this discussion...reflections on the Long Healing Prayer. I have been saying this prayer daily for the past ten years hoping to entreat God's compassion and mercy for my family. During this time I was trying to learn the prayer by heart and thought if I could make connections between the phrases in each triplet that it would help me achieve my purpose. I had questions about some of the groupings and you addressed each one of them. So much has been answered by your presentation and I am very thankful to God for the bounty of my finding this talk and watching. Allah-u-Abha

Greetings Friends. A small yet important note.
Shoghi Effendi stated that there is no Baha'i Prayer entitled The Long Healing Prayer. The UHJ communicated this several years ago. This is 2023. I call it the longest of the Healing Prayers.
What do they call the prayer, then?
Dr. Woodall's comments around 20:00 have caused me great consternation. If it is almost impossible to translate meanings in just one pair of languages (Arabic to English) how can Baha'is even dare to imagine that there could be a single, world language that will coherently mediate the meanings of ALL of the world's cultures?
“The day is approaching when all the peoples of the world will have adopted one universal language and one common script. When this is achieved, to whatsoever city a man may journey, it shall be as if he were entering his own home. These things are obligatory and absolutely essential. It is incumbent upon every man of insight and understanding to strive to translate that which hath been written into reality and action.” ~ Lawḥ-i-Maqṣúd
Great question! It really highlights the dilema we are in at present with so many languages and without a common language! For every day communication, when two people speak the same language, commerce can happen, treaties can be negotiated, friendships occur, etc., all facilitated by a common language. Above and beyond every day usage, when one is trying to convey poetic meanings, nuanced spiritual meanings or technical meanings, then, it would seem that certain languages may be better suited than others. One wonders that if the universal language were to be arabic, the problem would be solved for the revelation is mostly in arabic. Over time, the use of both one's native language as well as a universal language will facilitate both local culture and the growth of a global culture. Understanding breadth of meanings contained in the revelation may ultimately require facility in arabic and persian. The difficulty posed by translations does not negate its value or say that we shouldn't try to understand texts written in another language. It only means we have to be aware of the limitations posed by translation.
Surely all 'world' language is limited to the degree of one's comprehension of it's words. Thankfully all Holly writings give an inner spiritual understanding or essence that speaks to the soul which is beyond the physical condition and in need of this Light eh.
I enjoyed Dr. Woodall's presentation on the Transcendent Mystical Levels in this Beautiful Prayer. I love this approach in all things! I have been a dedicated Baha'i for 51 years and served in many different capacities. In my view the powerful "Universal Auxiliary Language" at this time is the now 13th Generation of the 1974 Intel x86 Instruction Set. The device that uses this is called a "Computer" that can translate one language into any other language instantly on a hand held device. More and more eloquent nuance can be added using the increasing CPU and RAM capacity giving all levels of Farsi and Arabic into any other language translation!
In 2023 the Current Institutions and Global Rank and File of the Faith amazingly do not seem to know that the whole MOSFET CPU and USART Microcomputer revolution was started by a Baha'i - Bill Fernandez - introducing Steve Jobs to Steve Wozniak in a walk around the neighborhood in Cupertino, CA back in 1969. There are three pages about it in the famous 1984 book "Fire in the Valley".
Bill told me in San Francisco in 1986 about a very interesting somewhat mystical component to the whole experience. In my view, what Bill Fernandez did set into motion in this profound Zoroastrian Cycle of "World Age Passage Archetypal Eternal Return", Baha'u'llah's famous pre J.J. Thomson quote: "We have observed an amazing thing. Lightning or a force similar to it is controlled by an operator and moveth at his command."
I worked for 41 years in the Microcomputer revolution. I loved every minute of it. What a bounty in "Work is Worship". There is a Massive Sea Change coming in the current Baha'i Faith stagnation in the Ruhi Books as the newest TH-cam AI Channels of free form scholarly discussion kick in on Indian Vedic, Persian Zoroastrian, Roman Mithraic, Egyptian Gnostic, and Islamic Sufism continue to explode with highly dedicated free thinker discussions born of the New World Age Passage. Just FIVE TH-cam Channels of currently 250,000 Total Subscribers in the U.S. alone within the LAST 48 MONTHS have more thrilled and empowered members than the current Lifetime Incumbent straight jacketed version of the Baha'i Faith in the U.S. since 1912.

In my lifetime the Official Top Down Baha'is themselves did not learn how to use it in time. The Fortunes of the World Age are now going to other more enlightened Souls acting from their own internal reception of the Message opened as a Direct Portal by the Bab and Baha'u'llah. The Promised Day Has Indeed Come!
Jesus is Lord and King. Jesus can heal! Nothing else can help you as much as being in the peace and calm that God alone can give you!

So true. When i say this prayer, i feel the deepest love for God, all His Prophets, and all humanity throughout the universe, and the universe itself. Baha’u’llah’s says the most wonderful things about Jesus.
