  • Talk given by Mr. Dariush Lamy on March 16, 2024.
Dariush Lamy is an author and researcher in history and philosophy. Among his notable works is a comprehensive research book titled "Abdul-Baha, the Perfect Exemplar," which delves into the life and writings of Abdul-Baha. In addition to this significant publication, he has contributed numerous articles to various Baha'i publications in the Persian language.
Having pursued studies in architecture and Islamic studies at U.C.L.A., Dariush brings a unique interdisciplinary perspective to his research and writing. When Abdu'l-baha laid the corner stone for the temple in the US, he said, "The temple is built."

You say that we must understand the words of the prayer we are saying, but we often pray together in different languages. For example I like very much when Persian believers chant a prayer. And I don't understand the words.

This then becomes an opportunity for meditation as we allow those sounds to wash over our spirits

The heart is the seat of God in our beings, so the brain is our conduit to our hearts. Think with our hearts, pray with our hearts and listen with our hearts.

I would like to ask how chanting a prayer is different from reciting or reading a prayer in regard to their effect on our brain?

I think that "Gods Will vs my will" does not "always" mean God's Will vs my will, but rather, from a state of consciousness -- by His power light in me as the Self, not from the state of my powerless identification with the story of my ego state. Pray from the state of His presence within you. As Christ said, " The Father within me doeth the works."
