      Got it yesterday, works really fine with the Iridium for PR/Mixer/FOH - although I play an archtop guitar, which is "acoustic" sounding! Have slight problems staying clean when extensive strumming. I turn the volume knob more and more down. Love the slow vibrato as "always on". For the first time in my life an overdrive works with the AER accoustic amp : )

      I'm no marketing genius, and I took me a while to appreciate this channel's approach. But coming into this channel with Strymon and UA pedals, it hooked me on Origin Effects. I own one, the M-EQ Drive, and now the decisions are how to sequence my purchases, based on what I have. I only found one other video comparing the DCX and the M-EQ, and it wasn't to my taste. (Pretty sure you guys sponsored it.) It would be really helpful for those of us new to the Origin Effects line if you could lend this content creator the pedals to show the possible ways they could be used together. What would an all-Origin Effects pedal chain look and sound like? Great pedals. Glad I finally understand why.

      @@hekakain4108 Bright-Onion and a few other builders will make what you need.
      You need a dual-footswitch on a TRS, where the TIP is wired through a momentary switch for tap. The RING is wired through a latching switch for the effect on/off. Both shorting to ground.

    Great video, love the magnatone sound (I play through a Panoramic Stereo for this reason). You are spot on, on the confusion of vibrato vs. tremelo. To further add to the confusion of tremolo vs. vibrato. Your hand gestures were alluding to incorrect waveform convention. Should be Tremelo (up-down volume), vibrato (left-right in frequency-pitch). Fantastic video.
    I think 🙃😉🙃. I say I think because there's so much going on. So many new sounds. You've definitely hooked me on Origin Effects. And I think all Tone Chasers are John Mayer. The example with the Dream was a dream.
    I got my M-EQ yesterday and it's fantastic. I did my research after the fact, and most people seem to think it was the right starting choice over the Halcyon, since they think the M-EQ is more versatile. The DCX Boost is the 3rd Adaptive OE pedal, so I'm looking forward to your video to see if that's next. But this video complicates my choices, since I want them all.
    I agree that searching for a different tone is aided by Origin Effects original combinations. Mayer helped me because he's partly the result of my generation's heroes. But also the idea that music often finds you when you're ready. So by trying to reverse-engineer Mayer, I end up with Hendrix, Garcia, and Clapton. (SRV with Albert King means I need to take another look at both.) Bottom line, I think most of us are chasing same and different, simultaneously.
    If I was Bill Gates, or John Mayer, I'd just buy one of each. Not even sure that's a good idea, however. I just searched Sweetwater and everything looks interesting to me except the RevivalDRIVE Hot Rod, since I'm more of a Low Gain guy. I've found nothing like your videos on TH-cam. I like the way you concentrate on Strymon, Origin Effects, and UA. How they work together and how they differ and are unique. Your work is focused and open to the new. Love it.

    I watched this despite already having that pedal (and the Deluxe 61). I love both and almost immediately sold my Dream and Ruby pedals after getting those (I did keep the Woodrow though, there is something magic about it). I mainly play hollow and semi-hollow guitars and what bugged me most about the UA pedal was their latency - you don't really 'hear' it (well, I don't), but if you play a guitar that resonates, you definitely feel it. My current favorite combination is the DCX Boost into the Deluxe 61 and Magma 57, an awesome combination.
    Many thanks for your detailed coverage of several use cases. I did get something out of it: I definitely need better IRs! I just bought the Bassman and Deluxe IRs from York and the improvement over my Celestion IRs is huge. Highly recommended (I use the Boss IR-200 with time based effects in its stereo loop and then go into the Walrus Canvas Stereo). Very happy!

    • @SuperdangerStudios
      @SuperdangerStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aren’t the York audio IRs great? It’s shocking how big an upgrade they are. I still down own a hollowbody and hope to remedy that soon. Oh man I’d love to get my hands on the dcx. It’s such an interesting sound and pedal. How does it do in front of those pedals?

    • @uwedasler425
      @uwedasler425 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperdangerStudios 'Shocking' is correct. I could not believe the difference, especially since at least some of the Celestion IRs were a massive upgrade over the Boss ones...
      I mainly use the DCX in EQ mode which has enough drive for me. It seems to have a very good buffer, which allowed me to disable the buffer in my Polytune tuner, which always did something weird to treble transients, much better now. The HF and LF knobs plus the voicing options make it a lot easier to tailor the Deluxe 61 and Magma 57 to different guitars - as good as their tone controls are, they are just one tone control after all. Sure, I could use a parametric EQ, but even compared to the very good Empress EQ, the HF and LF controls in the DCX sound more natural. The drive added by the DCX plays extremely well with the Deluxe 61 throughout the gain range, with the Magma 57 I would not add any gain, just EQ / clean boost. The more tweedy character of the Magma does not really go well with a drive, but that is to be expected I assume. The biggest benefit of the DCX for me is that adaptive feature though... The amount of dynamics (volume or attack variation) you are getting is just amazing.

      For the footswitch you need a special lead with two pedals. One has to be latching for the on/off and the other momentary for the tempo tap. Or you do what I do and use a Boss FS-6 with a standard trs as you can assign each pedal differently.

    Not really a big fan of Vibrato. Doesn't make sense either to pay so much money for the Magna 57 Vibrato pedal. The drive build in is completely useless for most guitarplayers. Since most guitarplayers already went through many overdrive pedals and have found their favourite and put it on their board. A more sensible pick would be the Boss vibrato VB-2 Waza if you would go for a vibrato pedal, which takes up less space of the precious space one has on the pedalboard. Personally I wouldn't have take up the space of 2 pedals for a fx you use probably on 1 maybe 2 songs during a set. Also most players have somekind of Line6 Multifx unit on their board, like the HX Stomp, M5 or M9. Which includes a Vibrato effect. So imho it would be wiser for Origin Effects to compete with a Vibrato only pedal in a smaller casing and at a more budget friendly price.

      Lots of expensive pedals out there that people use. I think this one is overlooked not bc of price but bc people did not understand the sonic imprint of it. But i agree if you don’t usually buy higher priced boutique pedals then this probably isn’t for you.

    Hi, how do you change the settings from the iridium to fit with the origin in front of it - I have a iridium? (I play an acoustic sounding archtop - and go directly into the PR/mixing desk in small theaters. And I want to "clean up" the clean sound like you E-guitarists do with FUZZ)

      My settings on the Iridium were very clean. Round channel, treble was at 1 o clock, mids were at 10 o clock, lows were at noon. Gain was around noon as well. If your archtop has a bassier sound I would roll the bass and gain down further on the iridium as well or even use EQ2 on the Magma57 to mitigate. Let me know if this helps!

      @@SuperdangerStudios Got it, works really fine with the Iridium for PR/Mixer - although I play an archtop guitar, which is "acoustic" sounding. Love the slow vibrato as "always on" effect : )

    I use vibrato all the time, my vibrato bar, not sure who came up with 'tremolo bar', much the same story as the fender amp.

      That would also be Fender, i.e., Strat with its “Synchronized Tremolo”.

    I'd say nobody's using it because it's ridiculously expensive. I remember hearing the first demos of it and really wanting it, but it's just too expensive when a used HX Stomp can be found for 400€ is less. Does it do the Magnatone sounds? No, but it probably will eventually

    • @PickledDill907

      It's not ridiculous in any fashion. It's expensive for good reason, it's complex and well made.
      With the logic displayed in your comment, there'd be no point in making any pedal because... The HX Stomp could do something similar I guess.
      I love my MAGMA57 and my HX Stomp, both do incredibly different things.

      @@SuperdangerStudios Sorry mate, I most probably sounded a bit rude (Not my Intention) Over here in New Zealand our NZ $1 is worth 61c USA (So almost 40c in the dollar more) so if the pedal is worth $200 Usa thats $ 330 nz,, Plus $46 postage, All FX pedals are a bit pricey at the moment

      It is not, because it can make a just ok amp sound like a very expensive vintage amp.

    Ain't no mistake. I don't like true vibrato. I like tremolo.
