The Model S and X should be refreshed because they have much bigger profit margins. Now that the CyberTruck is being mass produced with 4680, it makes sense to bring many of those new features to the S and X. This will also help differentiate the 3 and Y with simpler tech
It would be a shame to stop making the Model S. I'm hoping that the Roadster comes out by the end of the year so that a Model S Refresh would include a lot of the Roadster Architecture.
I have an X Plaid and still think it’s the best all around car on the road. When Tesla updates it, I think making the Cybertruck into a CyberSUV would be a good replacement.
Tesla absolutely needs to keep a legitimate 3 row SUV in their fleet. We are moving on from our Y and taking delivery of a 6 seat Model X next week. Yes, the upgraded contents on the Model X are nice, but we are doing this because we simply need the extra space. Although the X and S are indeed more legacy at this point, there is a huge market in the US for the larger 3 row SUV. Moving forward, perhaps Tesla could use the Cybertruck as a platform or simply update the Model X to generate more sales. One way or another, Tesla definitely needs a player in this 3 row SUV market.
XL SUVs are a staple of the US market. The current design of model X reached its limits and a larger, redesigned SUV could cement Tesla as #1 auto. I want an S refresh but the target audience is small.
I have been a Model S owner for 6 years and it is now sitting in my garage "Out Of Service" and can't be repaired for over 7 weeks due to a simple 12V battery ! I was contemplating a new Model S this year but have now cancelled those plans. Why? Because Tesla has just simply ignored us premium customers who invested in Tesla when it was still questionable. Getting service after the sale from Tesla is A MISERABLE EXPERIENCE!!!!! I bought my daughter a Rivian R1S, which she LOVES, and her experience with Rivian Customer Service has been absolutely FIRST CLASS!!
It's fine if they wait for a major refresh on the model S, but sales will probably continue to drop until then. However, I think it would be a mistake to drop it altogether at this point, since it's not only the 'flagship,' but it is a LOT of people's favorite Tesla model, even now. I think, as long as they do their homework on the update, it could really take off. Think about all the muscle & sports car enthusiasts who are willing to shell out similar cash (if not more) for Doge Hellcats, Shelby Mustangs, & Corvettes. Yet, most of them can barely hang with the 0-60 of a 'regular' AWD model S, let alone the Plaid. Not to mention, completely getting rid of the Model S also means getting rid of the Plaid. Make it better, give the people what they want, & they will come.
I just traded in my 2021 Model Y Performance, for a 2025 Model X Plaid. Wow, what a Galaxy of a difference! If Tesla not only redesigns the exterior, integrates the suspension, all of the current interior features, has similar performance, plus has all of what is included in Model-3 Refresh, in a a Mid-Sized SUV. It is guaranteed hit! Oh and finally, bring back the damn turn signal stalk, the hepatic button is stupid. That would be Prime!! Thanks!
I would love for Tesla to retire both the S and X. Offer a CyberSUV based of the truck to replace the X and a Roadster in both 2 door and 4 door configurations to replace the S. This gets rid of the old platform, gets new models out and spreads the cost over existing or planned platforms. Pleas do this Tesla!!!!
I am waiting for a small Model X exterior refresh. The interior looks great imo, but exterior needs a small bump.. not much, but if not, at least a front bumper camera and automatic frunk. For the price we pay, it is ridiculous that it is not standard. Then the rest of the focus should be on improving the build quality, the new models have many of the same old issues as the first 2016 ones had. Examples that are common: Third row seats not aligning when folded down, you can see the wires from those third row seats, weird panel gaps due to the falcon wing doors, and in general weak materials etc. that is not made to handle the stress of a 2,5 tonne car over time. You get cars for 10-20k dollars less with better build.. and a more luxurious trim.
The Juniper has some nice improvements but I will be waiting until the Rivian R2 is also available; if the two came out at similar costs, I'm leaning towards the R2 despite the many cool features in the Juniper Y. Rivian body designs are just better, but Tesla seems to have the lead on software side.
Yes, a new Model S refresh please. I have my 2014 S with 170,000 miles and still running well and holding its own. It’s an amazing car and I will be another soon. I love the features that Ryan is speculating on. I don’t need more range though. A solid 325 miles plus is great. Light bars inside and out…. Yes! Plush and more refined… Yes please!

Been patiently waiting for S refresh. Would love steer by wire, powershare, 800 volt architecture, and bigger battery for range. I do not need s plaid as 3 sec is plenty fast. The power share would be #1 as power my home without need for a big cyber truck is ideal. The CT will just be too tight length wise in my garage and just don’t need it. The bigger pack would allow power share and nice long trip range. Would like for headlights on S to remain, just improve standard brake stopping power without big price up charge. Leave stalks!!!
Yes I would love to see mS refresh will Light bars front and rear. The mS with front light bar looked so good and much needed refresh......wait for mSP!
That’s too bad if they discontinue the S and/or X. I personally think they need a high end luxury model in the lineup. Otherwise those buyers will just go elsewhere.
I'm hoping that they will bring a long wheelbase version of the Model Y to replace the Model X for a third row seat like they are saying will be released late last year in China.
So sick of all these goofy-looking, high and unstable SUVs. I'll take a low, wide, stable, and safe sedan...a Model S with plenty of room, 48V steer-by-wire, auto open/close hood, and electric brakes. NO toxic fluids to replace! Oh, and no unnecessary stalks...please.
It's mandatory to update MX and MS soon with a completely new version. It would be a poor move to discontinue. Other car companies manage 20+ different models and it's necessary to directly serve more luxury customers. Sales are plummeting because the exterior is aging and build-quality, service and luxury approach are lacking. Besides that I love so much of my MX Plaid that I would really love to buy a better version soon. (My MX has severly quality and built issues and Services Centers have fixed just 30% of ca. 50 issues which is so annoying on this price level) 1) Design & Features: Updated design with headlights further down, very small/narrow daylights (or lightstrip) and also more narrow back-lights; updated more masculine design language, pls keep the FWD + big windscreen + big frunk/trunk with MX, interior design can rather stay, automatic luggage compartement separation with 6-seat captains chairs (3rd row down), 2) Technology: 800VCharging, 48V Architecture, Steer-by-Wire with rear axle steering, 4680 battery cells, HUD/Head-Up-Display, camera washer systems for more cams, front bumper camera, more cams just for manual parking (in the mirrors etc. for real 360° cam birdeye view), hidden built in lidar (like the radar now in S/X) to at least have the option to switch on, keep the immense power or enable an even slightly improved version (Plaid is really such a great power package) , update possibility between AP4 and AP5 etc.). Keep light matrix functionality with even improved brightness+illumination. 3) Driving: Better dampers like latest Clearmotion Porsche Taycan/Nio dampers, generally bigger brakes for Plaid or at least Carbon-Brake Option also for MX, more reliable front drive shafts (engine further down for better bend angle), more reliable chassis bushings that do not get weak already after 15.000km of Autobahn, more refined chassis (although this one is not bad it is still away from BMW or Porsche). 4) Service: More luxury or higher luxury approach with even better materials, more attention to details, more interior lighting, real carbon inside not only look alike, real leather option (perhaps), keep the double glas, keep the glass roof in MS or the MX FWD etc; better much more competent service within the service centers and more dedicated advisors for MS/MX in the Tesla shops (e.g. reachability by phone for these customer groups). 5) (Plaid) Cabin Uplift: Stronger Differentiation for Plaid version, wider tires for MX Plaid for faster cornering speeds, more luxurious cabin, more comfy + quiet ride through better insulation from road noise, better cabin testing (less drafty so that also no wind/cold gets inside when driving +200 km/h or faster), much better build quality, active seats with variable leg rests, further improved sound system, please keep the joke, I want the most fun/sporty/luxurious car when self driving combined with the best FSD car. Successful entrepreneurs, investors etc. won't drive in Model 3/Ys and I’d never have a truck as my main car. If they leave Tesla they won't speak so positive anymore. Letting these cars go and losing this customerbase to the competition would be a shame as hell. Elon - if you let your luxury customers down now would be a very bad move. We bought a Tesla because we believe in it and want to keep driving a luxury Tesla and this not for just one decade. If you have new more important playground then delegate it to so who has the passion for this. Model X Plaid is the car I love and would like to drive in a much improved version.
Plaid is fun to drive in Germany. Don't care about visual face lifts, I care more about features like acceleration, range, and charging time. Would be nice with a stalk for signalling in round abouts, and parking sensors - as Tesla Vision so far is useless for tight parking spots or low objects near the front.
Steer-by-wire + push button turn signals makes sense. Steer-by-wire ensures no hand-over-hand turns are necessary. If steer-by-wire is indeed available, keep push button turn signals on the latest models.
When you assess sales of model s and x it is worth remembering that for the last 5 years no versions for countries that drive on the left have been available. That's the UK Japan Thailand Australia New Zealand and Indonesia. Not to mention Hong Kong and Macau where sales of these models were very strong. I live in Hong Kong and I'm a model s owner as my car ages, it is now 7 years old, I will be forced to switch to other manufacturers if I want a luxury sedan. As a Tesla owner for over 10 years this is very sad for me.
Looks like in Australia the model Y is going to be more like the X replacement with 20" wheels the only option for the launch edition. Thinking there will be a cut down version of the Y soon. We don't need heated seats, steering wheels, rear screens or RBG lights for a basic SUV.
The only thing my model S plaid is missing is the front bumper camera and maybe the highland style interior light strips. If the next model S looks like the concept in this video then I will not be upgrading when it comes out. The current plaid exterior appearance is perfect.
If I could buy a Model X now in cash I’d do it. But it’s going to take a few years for that goal. So by then I’m sure it will be far killer than it is now. Cannot wait for that day!
According to a friend that works at Tesla, they are indeed developing a refreshed Model S and X. Currently scheduled to begin distribution around November of this year. If all goes well in development, perhaps sooner, or later if delayed. Either way, it is happening. :)
That photo of the Chinese Model Y is heavily distorted. Look at the angles of the wheels in terms of camber. It’s just a strange photo, the car won’t really look like that in terms of proportion and stance.
7:20 … nope. In the history of insurance, it has never gone down. They’ll use any “statistic” they want, then manipulate it, then use that as justification to charge you more.
It definitely needs an update. I Have. 2021 Model S long range. I think since they charge a lot more than their 3 or Y it should have a number of features and functionality that the lower priced models don’t have.
A Refresh S & X is needed (including the new Roadster) matching many of the features of the similarly priced cybertruck (Power share, steer-by-wire, 48V arch.)
As some one in the 30’s who bought a Model Y, really hope they don’t discontinue the Model X or S. They are my aspirational vehicles for when I’m in my 40’s and buy my next car. Also, then the line up wouldn’t spell S.3.X.Y 😂
I’m ready to buy a 3rd model S, but will look for steer by wire similar to CT, 800 V battery, VTL capability, ambient lighting, and many more luxury features.
I don’t care if Tesla updates the design of the model S and X which are still great (I am owner of both), but they should bring to them the latest features, particularly steer by wire, new batteries and power share to justify them being premium vehicles.

Moving forward, perhaps Tesla could use the Cybertruck as a platform or simply update the Model X to generate more sales. One way or another, Tesla definitely needs a player in this 3 row SUV market.
yup only reason I won't trade in my Yukon unless they have a bigger SUV
Steer by wire enables LHD and RHD Drive to be more easily configured.
That’s needed as we cannot buy right hand drive S X. in the uk
I am waiting for a new model S. If it comes and has that light bar, I’m buying it asap
XL SUVs are a staple of the US market. The current design of model X reached its limits and a larger, redesigned SUV could cement Tesla as #1 auto. I want an S refresh but the target audience is small.
I wish all Teslas had PowerShare. Over the past two weeks my home has lost power for two days three times.
Model S wagon would be fire
That’s a good idea. It worked with the Taycan.
I’m patiently waiting to purchase a refreshed X as my first Tesla.
Love to see the semi go global it makes so much sense.
Thanks!
you can buy one after market
The Model 3 has vastly improved but, the Model S is still on another level in my opinion.. I love my 2021 MS LR
It’s a shame you can’t buy this car in many parts of the world (including mine) which is such a shame.
Hopefully they’ll add RH drive and bring it back to Australia 🤞
I own a 2024 Model S. It is still a beautiful car and an amazing value as it is being built today.
Great analysis and an excellent update on news we don't hear or keep up with. Very interested in your take on the Model S...yes, I think they need to maintain this as its a powerful legacy that deserves updating. Thanks for your work and superb eloquence - easy to listen to you and so valued with all the AI spoken news.
I think they should keep Model S line going. Such an amazing vehicle. You feel the difference immediately getting into a 3 vs an S. It's exciting to see the flagship model get updated tech from time to time. It keeps the brand fresh. The other models...3, Y, Cybercabs are for the general public. I guess the issue is if the S gets fabulous tech, 3 and Y owners will want the same tech in theirs? imho the better tech should be reserved for the S and X.
i reported an insurance claim and within a short period of time i also got two speeding tickets. I havent received a speeding ticket in over a decade but i'm not new to tickets. My insurance jumped from $150 a month to $499. This is the biggest jump in insurance i have ever seen.
E-commerce and DeFi integration is a powerful combination, and Adaxum is doing it right.
Yes I would love to see mS refresh will Light bars front and rear. The mS with front light bar looked so good and much needed refresh......wait for mSP!
Where’s v2L on the other Tesla cars? Come on.
id still like to see the plaid MS and X in right hand drive and available in the UK /Europe! But I dont think its ever going to happen...
I would like model S to offer adjustable suspension for a softer ride over bumps.
I would want a refreshed Model S!
Imagine model-X with power share, steer by wire, and interior lights, longer range!!!!! I’d love to see that happens
50 issues which is so annoying on this price level)
1) Design & Features: Updated design with headlights further down, very small/narrow daylights (or lightstrip) and also more narrow back-lights; updated more masculine design language, pls keep the FWD + big windscreen + big frunk/trunk with MX, interior design can rather stay, automatic luggage compartement separation with 6-seat captains chairs (3rd row down),
2) Technology: 800VCharging, 48V Architecture, Steer-by-Wire with rear axle steering, 4680 battery cells, HUD/Head-Up-Display, camera washer systems for more cams, front bumper camera, more cams just for manual parking (in the mirrors etc. for real 360° cam birdeye view), hidden built in lidar (like the radar now in S/X) to at least have the option to switch on, keep the immense power or enable an even slightly improved version (Plaid is really such a great power package)
, update possibility between AP4 and AP5 etc.).
If you have any questions simply get back to me.
S needs steer by wire, carbon brakes standard on Plaid, optional front and rear wings and room for huge tires.
I like the new blue. Would be great to see more brighter colours as well though.
I need a Model X refresh. I will wait it out
When you assess sales of model s and x it is worth remembering that for the last 5 years no versions for countries that drive on the left have been available.
Fade 🤔 what about roadster Gen 2 ?
Looks like in Australia the model Y is going to be more like the X replacement with 20" wheels the only option for the launch edition. Thinking there will be a cut down version of the Y soon. We don't need heated seats, steering wheels, rear screens or RBG lights for a basic SUV.
Tesla should use the same basic design for the Roadster, Model S & X. 😎
I’d love to see a refreshed S & X
The only thing my model S plaid is missing is the front bumper camera and maybe the highland style interior light strips. If the next model S looks like the concept in this video then I will not be upgrading when it comes out. The current plaid exterior appearance is perfect.
If I could buy a Model X now in cash I’d do it. But it’s going to take a few years for that goal. So by then I’m sure it will be far killer than it is now. Cannot wait for that day!
Steer by wire would allow an economical return to RHD markets.
i feel like the model s doesn’t really need any refresh on the exterior but def on the interior
Adaxum’s presale is gaining momentum, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.
According to a friend that works at Tesla, they are indeed developing a refreshed Model S and X. Currently scheduled to begin distribution around November of this year. If all goes well in development, perhaps sooner, or later if delayed. Either way, it is happening. :)
They really need to stretch the wheelbase on the Y for more rear seat legroom.
Your hope for not having these kinds of fires again is like hoping we don't have these frequent destructive hurricanes again.
That photo of the Chinese Model Y is heavily distorted. Look at the angles of the wheels in terms of camber. It’s just a strange photo, the car won’t really look like that in terms of proportion and stance.
You can see the Y on the ChineseTesla site- all angles, stills and movies, interior etc
Don’t want refreshed S & X (we’ve already had that). Want completely new S & X.
Are they going to put in footwells for the rear passengers?
Can't believe that S & X are only 2.5 % of Tesla sales. I wonder what % of revenue they are, as that's what matters most.
price
If they are only 2.5% of cars out the factory door, then taking a perhaps 2-3x revenue per vehicle, it is likely no more than 7.5% of overall revenue
Can they make a full size SUV... Like bring back the larger model x at the least.
Any S or X or CT or anything for us here in the uk would be nice… we only have 3&y…still after 4 years.😢
As much as a new model s a d x are needed the models is still the best loking. Best proportioned tesla by far
Build the X and S in right-hand drive and double your yearly sales, it's that easy
I Hope Model X Refresh 2025 Is Also Coming Next.
A Refresh S & X is needed (including the new Roadster) matching many of the features of the similarly priced cybertruck (Power share, steer-by-wire, 48V arch.)
This project has everything-strong team, great concept, and early adopter perks. Secured my ADX today!
How about a model s refresh with: massage front seats; front camera; ambient lighting; and more leg room for the back seat.
As some one in the 30’s who bought a Model Y, really hope they don’t discontinue the Model X or S. They are my aspirational vehicles for when I’m in my 40’s and buy my next car. Also, then the line up wouldn’t spell S.3.X.Y 😂
i am hoping for a RHD model S
Please, no light bar on the Model S 😮 it looks great the way it is.
I’m ready to buy a 3rd model S, but will look for steer by wire similar to CT, 800 V battery, VTL capability, ambient lighting, and many more luxury features.
They need to get into the mini van and suv game!
Or a big SUV with sliding doors 😉
My first EV is a 24 Model X. I love it and want a refresh in a couple years. Hope they don't phase it out.
Yes. Model S should be refreshed.
I don’t care if Tesla updates the design of the model S and X which are still great (I am owner of both), but they should bring to them the latest features, particularly steer by wire, new batteries and power share to justify them being premium vehicles.
