I now realize I should have explained Well Skating from scratch instead of saying "It's the same setup as Shatter Skating" because some people might find this video and skip directly to the Well Skating time stamp and have no context. SO, if you are reading this and you only want to know how to Well Skate, then I recommend checking out the Shatter Skating section first.
For well skating I recommend using the down button the the d pad for your super button because I felt it a lot harder to break the habit of icuras dashing with with b and accidentally hitting my super instead messing it up so beginners try with rt A down on d pad helped me a lot
@@MavenPhoenix I just map my emotes to double press! And I actually use the d pad for weapon selection so that’s how I pull my sword out, then I’m jumping with left bumper and super by clicking the right thumbstick. The benefit to this is that you can also use this for izi swapping or starfire rotations: I just hit down and up on the d pad instead of Y and it’s a lot faster
@MavenPhoenix I have left D-pad for my super, and my left emote is "Swing all alone", because it felt fitting to only be able to use that emote after I 3 orb. The real downside to using D-pad for super is you have to let go of L3, so there's no way of skating off a sprint, I have to awkwardly stop at ledges.
7:52 when you finish eating your grenade you still have your glide active and you lose a ton of speed in that instant. every moment your glide is active with heat rises you're going to rapidly lose momentum. that's why you tap glide as quickly as possible to maintain height, since you want to have it active for as little time as possible. Try deactivating your glide right before you finish eating your nade. And space our your taps more focusing on double tapping as fast as possible. Additionally, I can't tell from the video if you are but make sure you're activating glide in the instant (just like the jump-super of the skate itself) before you icarus dash. That goes for every time you ever icarus dash, as it will boost your momentum instead of just shifting you in a direction (what a normal dash does)
The most important thing to remember whilst slipping is late dodges are for height early dodges are for speed. Be patient with yourselves whilst learning:)
I had no idea sparrow flying was a thing til I used a shortcut spot in the Hypernet GM and a teammate asked if I did it. I still don’t know how to sword skate so this helps
So I hear ppl say in well skate jump the. Super, however I couldn't get it to work. I found a guy on controller explain it as super ( I bound mine to up on d pad) then jump and this worked for me. Def love how helpful this video is but if anyone's struggling with well skate try super jump order. Keep in mind it has to be tight in timing near simultaneous. Another real important tip when u pull sword u have a whole second in eager edge so don't rush. Pull sword take a breath then quickly heavy-jump- super or in my case heavy-super-jump
Thank you for this video Maven. Well Skating seems to be bugged. Sometimes it works but most of the time it does not. I guess that we can't expect Bungie to explain how they programmed Well Skating to work.
I could already kinda slipstream, so I hopefull this can refine it. The hardest part about controller is how many angles of rotations you have oh and i dont have aot, i use the lightfall deluxe edition preorder bonus sparrow with vernier thrusters. Do you have any recommendations for sparrow shapes
For some Titan love, one that's great in niche situations is titan flying with any sword, Lion Rampants and Catapult lift. I came here for the slipstreaming, my brain knows every step and angle, but my hands refuse to let go of controls for each dodge, so i just spin and fall, for some reason i keep finding new videos with the same information in the hope that it will somehow fix my poor coordination
I’m not sure if anyone will see this but how do you cap your frames on PS5? When I goto my video settings there’s only an option for my FoV not my actual FPS
I've tried these all but now have a Dualsense controller. Am gonna map sparrow dodge to back buttons. One of the problems with PS controllers is that pressing the stick is the dodge and for me, the stick dodge press wears out over time, especially the left stick. Guess I'm just heavy handed....
You do realise that the bumpers are also dodge right? I think I only know one person who uses the sticks over the bumpers. Lot easier to press especially when controlling a slip. Would recommend
If you’re wellskating on controller, I’d highly suggest bumper jumper and switching your keybinds a bit. I have weapon select on my d pad and emote on double tap. Obviously i can still use Y, but this allows for izi swapping on controller and wellskating without moving your hands. I map my super to right stick click, so without moving your hands the input is down, right trigger, left bumper, right thumbstick. Moving my fingers fast enough did NOT work for me and this took a long time yo find. Much easier on MnK.
Great vid Maven, though alls these moves were for m+k except eager edge skate. This is in my opinion your top vid so far this year. Great tutorial, idiot (me) proof. Thanks for sharing... "👍"...
Im 11 months late, but the heat rises well skate is slow cuz of burst glide. Strafe glide works SUPER well while heat rises is active. For whatever reason.

@@lorddoomkaiser5195 That would be great, but I can't live without my precious emotes on the D-Pad. I guess I could sacrifice 1 slot maybe.
Sacrifice the D. That's 4 more customizable buttons. Use a keyboard for emotes.

I literally looked this up yesterday, this video is way more informative than anything I found. Thank you.
Glad it helps ^.^
THIS IS INSANE, the sheer INFO that translates for controller is nutty
You were meant to teach. Thank you so much. Best videos on Destiny 2 hands down.
Thank u ^.^

The controller guardians thank you! Awesome guide!
Thanks alot for the slipstream explanation. Was the next thing i was gonna learn anyway. Might aswell use ur video:)
This is the best sword skating video I’ve seen and I’ve watched a ton
The most important thing to remember whilst slipping is late dodges are for height early dodges are for speed. Be patient with yourselves whilst learning:)
Hitting 3 back to back to back Bubble skates is actually impressive haha, very nice vid!
I don't know what it is about this video and the sliptreaming but it has helped me and my progress so much!
Imma use this to do more then solar warlock tech, gotta figure out the sparrow stuff
I had no idea sparrow flying was a thing til I used a shortcut spot in the Hypernet GM and a teammate asked if I did it. I still don’t know how to sword skate so this helps

Ah yes, the good stuff. Ty Maven.
Make well skating easy.. map your super to left on the D-Pad… activate eager edge, heavy attack, jump, hit left.. thank me later
I use down arrow lmao
For the initial sequence can you just hold rt for destabilisers while going from down to down left?
I feel the sparrow flying more easier in controller than keyboard, just say
You’re way better teacher than Gmeiners, literally got sparrow flying first try after watching your video

there are so so so many more speedrun techniques

I can finally shatter skate!
Congrats!
Btw vortex frames make skating easier as you can't be too quick like adaptives
How do you regain height

So when you slipstream do you let go of your buttons before or after yoy hit left boost?
Yes. You need to let go of everything between boosts. Then destabiliziers + down left, then boost again, then let go. Repeat.
Can we slipskate?

Do you have to cap your frames at 30?
No, 60 is fine, over 60 is going to be harder

Other guardians wondering wtf he/she doin
