That’s a lot of money to pretty much everyone right now considering inflation and prices at the grocery store are still killing us. Especially those of us with a family like myself who have a mortgage, a wife and daughter. $810 plus tax was an easy no for me.

yeap, it stays everywhere in the shelves, there's plenty around, and even people that aren't terminally online, when they realize it has no disc drive for that price, completely give up on it.
I've wondered for years why all companies aren't using cartridges with NAND flash for physical media. low cost, especially when buying at that kind of scale, and high capacity, no downloading needed. We'd be able to get back to the days when the entire game was on the cartridge out of the box. What's even better is they would be able to make it so DLC and updates could be downloaded and written to the cartridges themselves, making the cartridge preserve everything even after the servers have gone offline for those consoles. Some already have to pick and choose what they keep installed on their console. Most people can't(or just won't) afford a $500+ 8tb drive for the system they already had to spend $500+ for on top of spending $70 a game. Frankly even spending another $150 on storage for a console is ridiculous to me. The physical media needs to be what separates consoles from PCs.
I could shake your hand for this comment. More people need to understand the versatility that cartridges offer. Everyone says, "Just get a PC!" Sorry, but I love the collecting aspect that consoles offer. Physical media _absolutely_ should be a selling point when it comes to consoles.
IKR... it's so fricken weird. They just want to force us to use their game services so they are getting rid of physical media. I say we get new hobbies. I may take up model building.
Only negative is that Flash tends to degrade faster than blu ray discs but thats literally it and physicals are what I keep my switch around for these days. The physical collecting culture is still big in the Nintendo community and backing up and emulating my games is always an option

Not really. They have no intention of replacing anything with the Pro but rather release it as a premium choice, so sales aren't expected to be high. It's just good in the competition to not just have the most popular console but also the most powerful one. Sony also showed that they learned from the scalping disaster of the original launch. I think of the (much likely) fact that the Switch 2 is already in production as we speak, and it might not even be a Spring 2025 release at this point. They might push it to Fall or even Holiday 2025. Maybe, just maybe that is what Furukawa meant by saying they are making sure scalpers do not profit off of these consoles. They just produce an absolute ton to make sure nobody NEEDS the scalpers. A girl can dream, right? I remember getting a Switch back in 2017 on launch day wasn't actually THAT hard. But that was before Covid. I had it pre-ordered at retail. Also Nintendo came off the Wii U AND there was no backwards compatibility. The Switch 2 will be a completely different beast as far as early adopters are concerned. So I do sure hope Nintendo is producing a huge amount so scalpers can sit on their systems. 😅
This was my thoughts too. I'm hoping Nintendo is just delaying things so they can really scale up production significantly so that anybody and everybody that wants one will be able to get one without going through a scalper.
One scenario I could think of is making it available through there website requiring an active Nintendo online membership for purchase (like they did with Alarmo Clock). Also making it one per person with any attempt at multiple purchases automatically flagged and cancelled.
I was able to pick one up locally from WM, but the scalpers have been hoarding them up. When searching online they are practically out of stock from all the major retailers, I did find a drive from a 3rd party seller on WM but they wanted $150.00... no thank you, I paid $79.00 for it.
Nintendo will be in good shape if they launch the Switch 2 in the first half of 2025. They've already stated that they're planning on having ample supply available but launching outside of the holiday season also has the added benefit of giving you plenty of time to restock the system beforehand. The PS5 Pro is a niche system aimed at plugged in Playstation users who want the best console experience available. The Switch 2, by comparison, is going to be a mass market item aimed at a wide audience which has grown incredibly large since the Switch was introduced in 2017. The OG Switch sold out of it's roughly 3 million launch consoles immediately and this was coming off the back of a failed console in the Wii U. I could easily see the Switch 2 eclipse 5 million+ consoles sold day one if stock is available and launching well outside of the holiday season would leave them ample time to restock multiple times before the holiday rush.
I had no issue buying one. Pre ordered the night before launch & picked it up the next day. The disc drive on the other hand was tough to find anywhere or at retail price. Luckily I snagged the last one at a Walmart in a small desert town while I was delivering to said store. For context I’m a truck driver for Walmart so I also used my associate discount. Small wins for the little guy.

Also lack of customer interest as the PS5 base and PS5 Pro are not that much different in terms of overall performance. If you have a base PS5 already, it is not worth plopping the $700 US down for the system. For what it offers, AT MOST it should be $575 US for what little it offers over the base model. I can’t imagine the demand is very high for the pro compared to the original at launch either. People who already have a ps5 probably aren’t going to upgrade even if they have the means. Free Market capitalism enables this as it is just the freedom to scam and exploit people. Regulations are needed for this sort of thing.

Nintendo still do it LOL Actually because it cost more per unit than disk, and you still download gigantic update

At this point they better keep to their word. They keep saying scalping won’t be an issue and if it is I’m going to be a tad angry at Nintendo.
Also making it one per person with any attempt at multiple purchases automatically flagged and cancelled.
the disc drive is sold out everywhere. These companies need to understand no matter how much they push digital only, nobody wants that.

They understand they can charge an extra $80 for a disc drive.
How many PCs have an optical drive nowadays?
Like it or not digital is the future they are going to phase out physical discs at one point or another.

It really is annoying when you go to buy something, only to find it sold out, then see hundreds on ebay... for 2,3,4 times the price. I won't pay it, because that only encourages them to do it more. I wish more people just said NO, that would stop it right there. But I guess some people have more money than brains.
The ps4/x ox launch was the only time i rmember having no problem with obtaining a console day one. We need more of that...
I wonder how many PS5 Pro's will actually be in a store.
I say 20 consoles at stores.. I can't see them having more ps5 pro then the slims in the back.. MAYBE a little more coming up around black Fri.. But remember more people are shopping online, rather then going to the store to shop for their stuff
in europe i see multiple media stores with 6 to 7 in shops and day after day, they don't move, they are not selling them, and when they are asked if the console has a disc from not terminally online people, for this premium, it's a nono people just give up on it.
@@matthewhardwick8208 Enough for rustling the jimmies of scalpers.
That's all you need to know.
More than will be in people’s homes. 🤣🤣
What blows my mind is that online retailers still haven’t come up with a solution to the problem of people buying out stock like that. It’s almost as if they don’t care /s
Starting to think the ps5 pro was intended as an elaborate prank for scalpers since it’s a useless system otherwise
Not true. Now hand me a magnifying glass so I can show you the improvements
@@IAMthatIAM992 Improvements to play more remasters since Sony has jack for actual games (or good games moving forward) coming out anytime soon :D. Waste of money, like the OP said.
Ye, I am genuinely tired of Sony fans gaslighting themselves into thinking this is worth it, the small upgrade the 700 dollar price, that's only in the USA, in other countries it's more than that, no stand, purely digital so sony has more control over your games, lack of exclusives for this machine etc. And they blame the "mindless hate" to PC gamers.
Console gaming going to take a 40% hit on Consoles in United States with Trump Tariffs so before you say more expensive
It's literally just an even better PS5. Unlike Switch you can actually play current gen games with modern visuals and performance instead of just Nintendo games + indies, unlike Xbox you've got Sony's games (and Micorosoft's), and unlike PC you don't need to spend $4000 to be satisfied or wait 14 years for ports like Red Dead Redemption just to cry about DRM and optimization. PS5 Pro is the best place to play games.
The disc drive is also the only thing thats sold out here in Europe (at least in the German speaking region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland). Retail for that is 120 Euros here but it goes for 200
are they really suprised? Like unlike when COVID happen and chip shortage of OG PS5 and Xbox ppl were desperate but since chip shortage is gone and we can walk into a walmart, gamestop, etc and get one and get stock each time on official site, u can get at Original price anywhere and fast lol Why u spend extra $500+ on this online when I can LITERALLY walk to my walmart in 1 miles and get one 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ah yes 2020.... 🤔 those was some interesting two years back 😷😷
next gen should've been delayed a full year
It also has a *ton* to do with people being stuck at home, willing to pay anything for some entertainment.
Now that you can just... go outside... gaming has returned to its normal value in the marketplace.
I got the disc drive at GameStop when they announced the pro. But as of 2 weeks ago, Walmart had a TON of them in store. I saw 20 at one point, and last night there was 1 left. 😮
@@VictorGonzalez-vj6jy probably one guy bought them and thought he could flip them online for a profit lol.
Same here.. Gamestop, Walmart, target etc.. Those retail stores have them.. I just think some people are just used to getting things from PlayStation direct, that they forget other retailers have things too lol
I originally intended to wait until I actually got a PS5 Pro (sometime next year after either a price drop or a better value bundle) to get a disc drive, so that if the disc drive went out then it would still be under warranty. I am somewhat considering getting one just in case anyway.
I wonder if Sony cuts the price of the base ps5 through the holidays and keeps it moving forward? I have a feeling they will.
Just opened up the video to comment.
I haven't even thought about the ps5 pro so I heard it was coming out. 🤣
Nobody I know can afford it, my ps5 regular works just fine, and and I'd rather buy the damn VR headset to play MORE games than pay for an upgrade to just play games I already own.
Scalping this item was a HORRIBLE move 🤣
It's $1379 for a PS5 Pro here in New Zealand. Absolutely ridiculous prices considering a PS5 Slim (Disc version) is only $700 at the moment.
There's absolutely no need for a scalper to come along and try increase the price even further. I remember when my buddy paid $1200 for a PS5 a few years back due to the low supply and that was insanely ridiculous.
Conversions:
1379NZD = 810USD
700NZD = 411USD
1200NZD = 705USD
Why would someone buy a scalped ps5 pro when for that money you could build a pc that’s 3x as powerful
It's actually quite difficult to match the PS5 on PC.
You'd have to pair absolutely basement-tier parts with something like a 4070 to match it.
A 4070 by itself is at least $550.
*Maybe* a last-gen 6900XT?
Yeah I got my disc drive as soon as they said it was a “digital only console, but you can use the drive from the slim model”. Immediately got in my car and went to Walmart.
Anyone else waiting for PS6?
No I'm waiting for the ps6 pro Sony will make one watch what I tell ya.
The other day I saw sth like 35k for a 30th anniversary edition. This was so hilarious Im not even sure if they were serious or if it was just for the memes
that remember me the time an artist sold limited time shoes for 25 K pair but give 99% coupon on social media.
It warms my heart to hear scalpers get screwed🥰
Well I know I am going to make my coffee today with the tears of scalpers
