I remember checking the blog everyday hoping for the Hilux update and by doing so fell in love with custom bikes as well. You are an Inspiration to us mere mortals!
Man I remember this on a speed hunters article, Dino really made this look like a race shop built car, I can't believe it was your first time welding and fabricating
Ha, was just telling someone about this build last week! Can still remember seeing the photo of all the tubes in your driveway while I was waiting at the airport to leave Aus!
I would've been 12 when I started following the build on blog posts, bought myself a t-shirt and still wear it today! thanks for being a huge inspiration showing that anything is possible with dedication and passion
Let me tell you! Seeing your build has inspired me to start in my lil apartment garage lol loving the custom work. I appreciate you sharing the details & giving some inside. Very inspirational. Hopefully I could see this in person some day.
It’s so nice to see such a high end build left one solid color and looking like the actual vehicle. I hate the trend of crazy livery’s and colors on drift cars.
That’s great to hear. It’s funny because RC cars inspired me to build this in a way. Just wanted to clip a different body on a different chassis but it ended up being a huge job haha.
super cool build, cant believe its been around so long already. 17mins wont ever encapsulate 3.5 years of challenges on something like this 😅great production value on the video
Thank you, I know what you mean, it’s funny because the finished car was really just a by product of the steep learning curve, the tools skills and knowledge are much more useful than the car itself, it’s cool to have this to show for it though. 🙏🏻 appreciate the comments on the production too, starting to get the hang of filming and editing.
Outstanding video Nigel, I take my hat off to you sir, your standards of skill and detail are so very high, and your workshop, so very clean and organised, great to see thank you.
I started following this build about 2012 on Instagram it’s one of my favorite Toyota’s ever! I’m glad to see it’s still around, this goes to show you it was ahead of its time. Great work I can’t wait fo the next build like this!
I love this so much. I live in Florida, we didn't get the "Hilux" here they're simply called pickups up until '95. I'm currently building an '88 and getting ready to stuff a 2j in it. My plans are nowhere near as refined as yours, but the attention to details with your build and determination has certainly inspired me.Thanks for sharing
This was one of the best car build videos I've ever watched. This is exactly how I'd build any race car, amazing work. Video production was great as well.
an excellent video! great work on the writing, shooting, and editing. i've followed this build for years and its great to see and hear all about it in this high quality format.
@@Engineeredtoslide always take my hat off, to those that create as well as my third gen Engineer skills. 1981 till now 40yrs in the trade buddy. Have an Awesome day in Victoria😉🙂👍👍
I still remember the day my trade school teacher Glenn was telling me about you building this. Would have been 2010-2011. I went home found the build on the net and ogled over the build. I’ve been following ever since and it’s just so cool to see. Have you got any plans for events this year?
That’s great to hear, I pulled the driveline out of it to build my S15 and it’s currently sitting in a friends garage, kinda sad but I am trying to work towards a bigger garage so it can return home again. It doesn’t get used enough that’s for sure.
Dude. I saw you building this years ago & thouhgt you must have known how to Tig already. To think that you learned as you went, makes me feel better about learning to use my own TIG that ive had for almost 2 years & still not really learned how to use it. Im going to give it a go now... maybe not build an entire tube chassis, but ive wanted to make rock sliders & a tyre mount for my Jeep.
5:22 Noticed there isn't any exposed thread sticking out of your upper a arm bolts on the rear suspension. Back when I did Formula SAE the tech inspection wanted to see 2 exposed threads past the nylock.
I remember when I stumbled upon this build when you first started… way back when I was building my RB powered 180sx and was always looking at how you where going and remember your apprentice wage budget and the noodle diet sacrifices you made ❤️ love that you got your acknowledgement for your achievements mate. Keep it up ✌🏽 no reason to stop at the Ute 🤓
This Toyota is my preferred model pick-up (we call them lo-lux where I'm at) so coming across this build a few years back I was excited to see what you had done to it.. being a fabricator and listening to the build history its super impressive excellent work!
Big fan of your work mate! I had a picture of this frame as my desktop background for years! Such an amazing job you did and I can beleive that you started that project without already having all the skill of fabrication...hats off to you my friend! I also build a little something, it s on my channel 😅 Cheers mate 👍
Man I have followed your build from the start and absolutely loved it. I would love to build my own tube frame chassis some day. Mad respect bro! Cant wait to see your next up coming projects
Amazing mate - totally inspired. I am building a little Kei pickup at the moment and have some interesting issues to overcome myself :) Keep it up and enjoy your creation
watched your land speed record doco, blardy cool dude, i got stung in the eye while riding a scoot in raro, was in tears looking at ya face coz mine did the same fkn thing lol. too much dude. subscribed
Love this car so much!!!! Such an epic build! Any plans to take it to a track again soon??? Would a Friday night drifts at Calder be too risky for it?!!
Thanks, I recently pulled the motor and gearbox out of it for my other cars so it’s stored at a friends place, would love to drive it more, driving it’s fun but it’s definitely not as fun as driving something with parts that are easily replaceable. I’ll put it back together one day and bring it out.
I’d been following this since the beginning and even purchased a single cab hilux to do what you did. I’m still keen to do it but can’t seem to find any doors or a bonnet. Would love a set if you’re selling some.
Sick as fuck. Iv been saying for years I'd love to see a drift truck. Every now and then you might see a Nissan hardbody. Love the rube chassis and the built in hydrogen shock jack system
Awesome build mate, your choice of materials is very wise, on my Honda I looked at charging some steel body panels out for carbon fibre or fibreglass, but most of them were so light there would have been no gain by changing the materials from steel.... looming forward to checking your links out.

I remember following this build and being blown away by your skill and determination.
Thank you, so glad you were a part of it, wild time for sure!
Man me too! what a legend!
It’s inspiring what you have done from a humble single garage beginning. One of my favourite cars ever.

Thank you 🙏🏻 it was great to have you along for the ride.
I remember still being a kid and watching your build.
You had me worried with the air cylinders until I saw the built in stands. Nice work.
So much attention to detail. Amazing.
A true dream car.
May be over the top, but this is Australia's answer to project binky.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Ive been following this build for a while
very nice solution the square tubing in the bottom! congrats!
This vehicle is what got me into homebuilt cars
I remember when i owned my Silvia this build was nothing but simply addiction very inspiring
Awesome to hear, thank you.

Too true

still a mind blowing build even 10+yrs later
Cheers mate.
I remember seeing this at matsuri in QLD years ago, It felt like such an honor to see it in person. The car is beautiful
Always loved this build! It was my inspiration to begin to design and build my own RC drift cars.
That’s great to hear. It’s funny because RC cars inspired me to build this in a way. Just wanted to clip a different body on a different chassis but it ended up being a huge job haha.

remember seeing this over 10yrs ago in the build, insane to see it finished, awesome work
Thanks, it’s been finished for over ten years which is crazy in itself, thanks for taking notice so long ago.

Looking at the car on video doesn't do it justice but super informative.
Thank you
Fantastic build. I'd love to see, in the future, this truck with carbon fiber cab and doors.
Iv been into drifting for awhile and this is THE COOLEST DRIFT TRUCK(CAR) I HAVE EVER EVER EVER SEEN.
As a boiler maker this is very impressive, good job

Such an absolutely amazing build, have been wanting to see it in person for awhile now 🤯
This project is the standard for all projects. So cool and inspiring. Definitely an influential build before the modern tube chassis trends.

I did, that was fun too.

Why didn't you just make a Nissan Ute???
